We all know that there's no ideal rpg's and it's so far impossible for humans to create it, if ever at all. But we have lot of already released RPG's. Which rpg (including indie rpg's) is your fav and why? I'll hope I will find something new and inspiring here.

Planescape Torment, because it just is a fucking piece of art.
Mainly because of the story, the choices and consequences considering character development, the music, the art design and especially the amazing ending scene. No game has ever moved me as much as Torment, and no game has ever been that interesting and full of great characters.

Then, there's also Arcanum on a close second place because of the huge amount of stuff to discover and the choices and consequences and superb character development, and a GREAT setting.

Wizardry 8 because I'm stuck in the past, but like some of the future's features, and because I am quite possibly a closet furry.

You hope to find something new and inspiring? Good luck.

I guess he meant new and inspiring as in an old classic that I don't yet know and never have played.

The holy trinity of Fallout, Arcanum and Planescape: Torment. And a whole slew of old goldbox games.

Planescape Torment of course. I love every aspect of the game (yes, even combat) but mainly the dialogs, characters and the multileveled story. The setting is also brilliant and fascinating and the level design is pure originality: Sigil has such a weird look, it sort of has this steampunk feeling to it. Oh, and I have to mention the music too. Overall you can see there was a lot of passion put into this game.

Second on my list would be Knights of the Old Republic II. I don't want to start a flame war or anything, I know this game isn't very popular here (or anywhere for that matter). The thing is I didn't think much of it after the first play-through. I did a little research on the cut content and played it again and things make much more sense after knowing what was cut. I guess I like this game more for what it could have been than for what it is... call me fool, I don't care. It has an excellent style of writing and some of the NPCs are very vivid. Needless to say, I can't wait for the restoration mod to be released.

And the list couldn't be complete without good old Fallout. I have yet to play a game where choices were so important. And I like the combat very much, it feels a bit like chess. And of course, the setting is excellent and captures very well the atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic world.

I'd mention Icewind Dale too. It's not exactly heavy on story but since this was the first RPG I played it helped me get to know the D&D campaign setting and the ruleset. I like how it's paced, I like that it's challenging and I love the music and atmosphere. Good, solid and fun game experience.

Yes, I've heard that this is great, but never played it. Tried to get the game in our town, but hasn't found it, even a goddamn pirate copy. Well, lets try internet shops.

Wizardry 8, no contest.
Played it. Too much ACTION, even if it turn-based.

The holy trinity of Fallout
Fallout: Tactics actually is sucks... ...for rpg.

Darklands.
Played it not long time ago. Extreme freedom, but graphics kills me. :)

My favorite so far - Gothic II. Great atmosphere, design, landscapes, AI shedule, interesting dialogues and quests. But too much hack'n'slash in the mine valley.

Some european shithole country....
@ Rancen - The Holy Trinity means Fallout, Arcanum & Planescape: Torment.

There are many people around, who even think that Fallout 2 isn't hardcore enough, but it's very ok, if you ask me. Better that the 99% of other stuff, and just sligthly beyound the trinity.

Then comes 1st half of Bloodlines + Gothic series + i really enjoyed Daggerfall for no reason.

Wizardry 8 is an "old people"'s game, for long evenings in winter by the fireplace.

Wizardry 8 wasn't THAT good!

Has for me... The holy trinity: Darklands, Torment and Arcanum

Subgenres: King of Dragon Pass, Heroes 2/3, Europa 1400: The Guild

Damn, how could I forget King of Dragon Pass? One of the most beautiful game concepts ever made. And it's unique as hell.

I think Arcanum and Fallouts are the examples of perfect RPGs. Many other RPGs, though enjoyable, always lack a certain element, but these 2 games have it all. I would rate Arcanum higher because it improved on everything that made Fallout great, plus the setting and a much better character creation.

Its quite funny when you look at FOblivion and Arcanum. In Arcanum you can destroy Tarant, the main fucking city and this is more of a secret difficult to achieve that wasnt hyped. And now Pete and Todd are PRing the shit out of Megaton and how you can blow it up. No doubt it just holds a bunch of generic NPCs that wont be missed.

Final Fantasy 6.

It has one huge advantage over "The Holy Trinity:" It's actually fun to play.

Anyway, the "all subgenres included" part seems pretty pointless in the title, considering most here would like lean towards the "classic" ones.
"Your favourite non-classic RPG (action-RPG, FPS with RPG elements, etc.)" topic instead?

With that said, Fallout. Torment is also pretty great, and I haven't yet played Arcanum. The setting seems interesting, the combat seems shit.

Only if you're a masochist.

Anyways I'm a little indecisive here. I'm caught between a few games, namely Shadows of Amn, Fallout, and Torment.

Planescape Torment. But if we use RPG very loose I'm tempted to say Jagged Alliance 2.

Shortversion: Fallout 1/2, Diablo 2 incl. LoD,

The Fallout series, of course. I tried to play Arcanum, too, i just don`t know, somehow i felt like Fallout series is still better in many aspects, i am generally not a big fan of settings, which have swords and magic and that kind of stuff, of course it depends on how it is designed, Diablo 2 is a very good example, where i liked the setting and the game. In Planescape:Torment, i missed more relaxing gameplay moments like going outside and meeting random encounters or visiting villages which are story unrelevant. Let`s just say GTA or Freelancer for example, where you can just drive around with your car or spaceship and do whatever you want without following the storyline, thats one very important aspect for me, Fallout had it too with the wasteland and the random encounters.

PokerRPG is the best game ever!.

...

LOL

Nah actually my favorite would be Fallout 1 & 2 ... Tactics was gay... and fallout 3 sounds like .. total bullshit.. so i guess FOblivion should be its real name.
