make the tie another color. unless of course you intend to make it look gay.

I saw it only as a tie until you said that. I still think it just looks like a tie unless you're actively looking for gayness, but since so much of the Codex does exactly that, it may be a good idea to change it.

When I do the edits, I'll make a version with a tie the same red as the PBF original, though I'm not sure if that will look good with the red of the troll. This could take some experimentation. I'll keep a version with the current red tie as well though, since there's a chance it'll just look better.
Pattern it or shorten it up so we can see the end of it?

I just made a quick and dirty edit of Felipepepe's version (done with the nice outlines), adding some outline detail, shifting the facial expression to not stare straight at you, and editing the colours to be more similar to Stinger's. It's not perfect, and there are aspects of Stinger's I prefer, but since it has the less jagged outlines, it could be a useful jumping off point.

I think the second from the right is the best, but could you try to adjust the mouth a bit,the eyes have been adjusted from the one that is looking directly at you but I think the mouth is the same which makes it look a bit off.I think it would look better if you adjusted the mouth a bit too.

I think their problem is more that it's the same red as the troll's skin, making it look sort of like he's sitting with his shirt unbuttoned. Which is not always gay, because it means women see your abs and say 'Oh my god, I know it's not a classy thing to ask, but can I just touch them?'. However, the Codex troll is surrounded by dudes and trannies, so it would be pretty gay in this context.

As well as a version with the PBF tie's colour, I guess I can take a shot at a patterned one too. That could be quite nice, though I'm not sure what sort of pattern I'd use that would stll fit with MCA's cartoon style, and wouldn't be too distracting. I'll have to play around with it I guess.

Yeah, I intend to do this. Since I'm going to try to switch the shading to be similar to Stinger's version, moving the mouth a bit won't look weird.

Here's my edit, because I won't stand for this red tie socialist propaganda. Also added table cut-off so it doesn't look like he's stuck in a manhole.

Too many different colors. It clashes with the grey/red color scheme of the other trolls. If you must change the tie color, make it stylish black. Table cutoff isn't bad, but we shouldn't deviate too much from the canon of St. Avellone.

you left a little bit of blue in there, I only saw it when I zoomed in
7c330f9a.png

cleaned that up, added experimental and probably not improvable thicker outlines

it will probably take a bit of redrawing to get the arms thicker if you guys want them that way
because of the tapering curve from the elbow and stuffies and the utter lack of room for the left one to widen without having the upper arm merge with it

Do we really need a tie at all? You can just make his shirt grey.

Also, I still think you guys have made it too small. Something in between the original size and this would be better.

At this point I agree. The tie just doesn't seem to look right in another colour, just kind of jarring. Making it plain grey would defeat the purpose of the middle lines though, so how about something like this? (Desk and no-desk versions, with current emote to compare). EDIT: Added most recent tie version (sgc_meltdown) for further comparison.

The outlines are a bit off on the side of the head, but I wanted to check first with people to see if the tieless design is wanted at all. Oh, I also moved the mouth a little bit to line up better with the eyes, and altered the shading a very tiny amount (for instance a little bit right under the mouth). Also sized more similarly to the current emoticon.

EDIT: Oh, and thickening-wise, I only thickened the right (troll's right, not reader's) arm in order to make it roughly the same as the left. If thickened too much more, it might lose the 'stick figure limb' feel Codex trolls tend to have. To me at least, it doesn't look ridiculously thin at the emote size, so I don't really see the need. That's just one opinion of course.

Well, my idea was that the middle lines would be deleted...

So something like this?

:hmmm:

Hmm... I thought I wouldn't like it without the middle lines, but after putting the 'RPG CODEX' text on, I actually like it this way. The pose and the face is enough to bring to mind the PBF picture and the attitude being conveyed. Also, having the shirt this way makes it more in keeping with the style of Codex trolls in general.

My favourite version so far. I haven't been following this thread that closely, is this one of the Avellone trolls or something you made yourself? Also, is there somewhere on the internet that has all the Codex Avellone trolls in one place? Ta.

For this specific version of this troll: Originally Avellone sketch, initially coloured by felipepepe, then I heavily edited the outline, changed most of the colouring, and shifted the eyes and mouth to be more similar to the emote (I based that on Stinger's version, which did it first). After that version, I added a table line (imitating Zed's version, though I had to make my own since I wanted a bigger size), recoloured it again (to get rid of the middle lines/tie), and added the RPG CODEX text in the huge blank spot that resulted.

All the original MCA sketches from the Kickstarter batch: http://rpgcodex.net/forums/index.ph...dex-trolls-incoming.71815/page-7#post-2080721

cleaned it up, did my best to de-blur outlines and give them a flat edge
...
look how youthful he is
those arms are still a bitch though

Ah, I see you edited your post and changed the image as I was making this. Oh well.

Anyway, I felt the original cleaned one you posted cleaned up the odd pixels in the head nicely, but thinned out the outlines too much, especially the arms. Since I figured a tiny bit of jaggedness was the lesser of two evils (after all, the current emote is pretty noticeably jagged in bits), I cleaned up the odd pixels in mine, but left the outlines alone... then came back and saw you'd switched to an updated version with the outline far less thinned out.

So here they are, in chronological order:

They look... pretty similar, unless you're very close to your monitor. Are we getting OCD about this?

EDIT: Damn, deleted your old version. Luckily I can reupload for this post to make sense.

You are working on the face of codex contemplation and deep thoughtfulness, I think a pure outline free of worldy attachment to gradients and samsaric jagged distraction is aptly symbolic of the unfettered illusionless enlightenment that emanates from this particular icon of prestige

I am content that DU will choose what he likes and the rest will return to the void that is existence, having never lived, having never died

and say what you like, my image represents 2.5 kilobytes of bandwidth savings each time

I think you're misinterpreting me. I like your most recent one, it actually corrected the one problem I had with the original cleaned version you made, the too-thin lines. I also think it makes the troll's right arm look a bit better and less blurry. I just happened to notice that lining them up, they all looked very similar, enough to make me question whether we (and when I said we, I was including myself) were perhaps getting a bit obsessive, and spending time editing almost negligible details.

Since most recent cleaned version is a smaller filesize, and has nice sounding technical improvements, excellent.

Only thing I would change is the mouth. I think the version I had is longer and straighter, closer to the original lineart (since it is just the actual lineart painted black) and, most importantly, makes him look more disapproving. If someone wants to add that mouth instead, be my guest.
