Thinking of replaying BG1?

Well, now that all three of us are in one thread, Black will be able to find us and kill us all for liking Baldur's Gate before devising a way to kill everyone who liked BG2.

Anyway, I roll completely vanilla for BG1, mostly because it's a refreshing change to actually install an old game and be able to play it without emulation, tweaks, setting core affinity, messing with permissions, installing to different directories, etc. It just works. Plus, the only feature I'd really be interested in is Sword Coast Stratagems for better AI, which, based on my experience with the BG2 version, is one of the more unstable add-ons (probably because so much modding talent is wasted on terribad powergaming add-ons and loli romance rape stuff).

Well, when you have finished BG1 enough times in the vanilla version, the mods start to look appealing. SCS especially is nice - I haven't spotted any unstable issues with it. BGT toned down the "everyone dual-wields"-issue from TuTu - only rangers are now dual wielders so Kivan and Minsc, IIRC.

Speaking of BG1, did anyone see this site that wss recently put up?

I don't know if it's been mentioned already. Not sure what to make of it or if it's just a random fan site tease, who knows.

Solo with a F/M/T is the only way to play.

Solo, single-classed generalist mage is the only way to play (and yes, I realize that specialists get an extra slot per level-- but I consider them cheating in IE games). I had a great time killing Drizzt, Shandalar, and rushing Sarevok plus his 3 cronies with mine just a week ago.

No mods, just official patches, and no pansy-ass summoned monster cheese, glitches, or exploits, just a legit 9th level Mage that hit the XP-cap LONG before he completely everything in the game.

I once soloed Icewind Dale and Heart of Winter, except their end battles, with a F/T/M, but had to give up early in Trials of the Luremaster.
Only party based game I've ever soloed.

Just soloed all this with a single-classed mage as well... HoW and ToL were somewhat disappointing (Icasaracht is easier than Belhifet, and the Luremaster went down with a single spell), and by the time I got back from finishing HoW, the remainder of the orignial campaign was pretty unchallenging as well, but that's to be expected for a level 30 Mage.

Are guys aware of the potato-made BG1 widescreen GUI mod (analogous to Ghostdog's PS:T mod)? http://athkatla.cob-bg.pl/viewtopic.php?t=3257

Is the potato version better than the pasta version?

What's that, an Italian mod?

Yes, but I thinking of the Widescreen mod. Didn't notice that bit about "GUI" untill now.

But let's ask instead: is it better than the BG 1 GUI mod by LadeJarl?

That's only for Tutu. The Polish mod is for vanilla. :obviously:

A team of F/T/M or F/C/M is hellish too (because you're under leveled forever and your dispel don't do shit while any spellcaster can fuck up your laborious buffs with a snap of his fingers - something the SCS mod does).

It's also funny when the dialogs use a <CLASS> token. WTF bioware, couldn't you just use "fighter"?

The widescreen mod works just fine for BG1 too. In fact, you can use it for any Infinity Engine game.

Please distinguish.

There's the widescreen mod by the bigg which enables high and widescreen resolutions, even if the GUI doesn't really support them and looks like crap with them.
Then there are GUI mods like Ghostdog's or this Polish one, that adjust the GUI for those resolutions.

Looks like some fan-teaser-stuff to me.

Btw, there are plenty of people on the codex who liked BG1 well enough, just very few who'd claim that it was excellent/great.

Damn, DarkUnderlord. When are you gonna fix this popamole text-formatting shit? XenForo not making stuff easy is no excuse. You've had enough time.

That potato widescreen mod intrigues me -- I'll have to check it out as the one on gibberlings3 is not installing for my laptop (keeps comping up with an error relating to bgmain2.exe).

Make sure you have all the patches applied. That is the usual #1 problem when using any mods with BG/BGII and having problems.

Or you have some shitty pirated version.

After working at on the titles Shattered Steel and Baldur's Gate he led the development of Neverwinter Nights from concept to completion.

Following NeverWinter Nights, Trent completed two expansion packs and moved into the Project Director role on the next generation BioWare Eclipse Engine. Following the initial feature completion on the Eclipse Engine Trent moved on to doing a new, unannounced project which was cancelled in 2009 by EA. Trent left BioWare in 2009 and started up a digital distribution portal called: Beamdog. Trent is currently the co-owner, Creative Director and Director of Business Development at Beamdog.

So the domain belongs to a Baldur's Gate developer who recently left BioWare to form his own company? Hmm.

Again - if you're talking about this gibberlings3 mod, then you'll need that one too. The Polish mod just fixes up the UI.

Ugh, i can only imagine the decline that a BG remake would be today.
