From Software’s Dark Souls 2 is getting a free online graphic novel called Dark Souls 2: Into the Light. It’s being developed primarily for the internet, but certain editions of the game will come with a print copy, according to Namco Bandai. I’m intensely curious how Dark Souls, a game with few words and a very enigmatic storyline, will translate to the printed page. What new lore will we be privy to this coming January when the comic is slated to go online?
Into the Light is being written by Rob Williams and Andi Ewington, with illustrations by Simon Coleby.
The much wordier series The Witcher by CD Projekt RED, based on the books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, should be an excellent fit for a comic book.
Truthfully, some portions of The Witcher 2 were told in a comic book style already, so this isn’t even that big of a step for Geralt of Rivia.
Dark Horse, the publishers of everything from Star Wars comics to Hellboy and Mass Effect are teaming up with the game developer on this one. The story is summed up as a new adventure of Geralt, so no rehash of the games or books:
“Traveling near the edge of the Black Forest, in the land of the Angren, monster hunter Geralt meets a widowed man whose dead and murderous wife resides in an eerie mansion known as the House of Glass, a place of endless rooms where horror waits around every corner. Geralt will have to use all his witcher prowess to solve the manor’s mystery and survive.”
