I'd have to go with Serpent in the Staglands as my top RPG name. It's creative and sounds cool. What's your favorite RPG name? It doesn't have to be your favorite game, just the game title.

STAR WARS™ Knights of the Old Republic™ II - The Sith Lords™.

I'm fond of absurdly long titles, and the fact MCA hates subtitles makes it more amusing. He also worked on other RPGs with good, long titles such as:
  • Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter - Trials of the Luremaster
  • Fallout 2: A Post Nuclear Role-Playing Game
  • Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
Other good titles that come to mind:
  • Arx Fatalis
  • The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
  • Shadow Tower Abyss
  • Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
  • Lost Odyssey
  • Wizardry V: Heart of the Maelstrom
  • Planescape: Torment (though Planescape: Last Rites would've been better)
  • Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor

A lot of the Wizardry games have good subtitles, Knights of Diamond, Crusaders of the Dark Savant, Throb of the Demon's Heart, etc.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is cool.

Always thought The Temple of Elemental Evil had a nice ring to it, although obviously it was first used for a pnp module.

I gotta go with Incubation: Time is Running Out to top the list. The name is just strange enough to peak my interest and the game was pretty good to boot.
Monsterseed gets a nod for the same exact reason. Is it a seed that you plant to grow a monster, or is it more like those Japanese cartoons hidden behind the red curtain at your local VHS rental store?
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura is great because it's steampunk and I always love seeing 'obscura' used.
Growlanser II: The Sense of Justice is fun just because reading the title you already know that it's a wacky Japanese game probably about revenge for your village/family and fighting a corrupt empire.
BloodNet is lovely because it reeks of early 90's.

That's all I have for now. I should rummage through some of my stuff in boxes and see if there are any more that I can't recall off of the top of my head.

Oh so you like that one about the flying templar and the other one about not ending the fight with angries at the disco?

I think in RPG players often like long names because they like lots of description to stir the imagination (bloody Tolkein readers) and I like some of the longer names but I also have a fondness for short title names such as King's Field and The Dark Spire; perhaps this is because they are so limited as to the description of elements that you may be intrigued as to what the rest of the mystery is all about.

I also have a very slight thing against names that are way too ambitious and / or contradictory; for example "Ultima, Final Fantasy, Grandia etc.".

Great names. I also like Mask of the Betrayer, and Curse of the Azure Bonds. I think The Dark Spire is a great name, too, and Heart of Winter stirs a sort of IWD/winter-esque feeling in you of nostalgia and warm cocoa. Lots of good ones, thanks guys.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. I honestly love the word Masquerade.

Subtitles tend to be more creative and striking than the main titles.

Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord
Quest of the Avatar
The Bard's Tale
Chaos Strikes Back
Bane of the Cosmic Forge
Labyrinth of Worlds
Clouds/Darkside/World of Xeen
Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Heralds of the Winged Exemplar
et cetera

I always thought Gothic had a nice ring to it. It's simple, yet effective, and perfectly encapsulates the bleak atmosphere of the first game.

Might and Magic VI: THE MANDATE OF HEAVEN

Darklands and Ultima VII: The Black Gate deserve another mention, too. Gothic is great as well.

Betrayal at Krondor
Damn, beat me to it.

All titles in the Pool of Radiance series are pretty cool.

Since most Western RPGS have already been mentioned, I thought I'd bring it upon myself to come up with some cool jRPG titles. Jeez, are they bad. Couldn't come up with a single one.
