Continuing with HoMM 3: The Shadow of Death
I think Specter of Power is the last campaign.
The first map was pretty good, and quite challenging. The Castle enemy sent a huge army with a competent Hero, and Sandro had to evacuate the area. Fortunately the enemy hero had no Logistics, so I was able to keep my heroes and 2 of 3 castles out of harm's way. In the meantime I invaded, and captured a castle, and then I discovered the the enemy had an even more powerful (but with lower stats) enemy. It seems the enemy have unlimted resources and gets some huge reinforcements. But eventually I was able to defeat both heroes, thanks to accumulating over 1000 skeletons, and with them out of the way I could concentrate of find and capturing Castle Haart.
A good start to the campaign.
The second map was rather meh. Accumulate 100,000 gold. You are supposed to invade the enemy and capture his gold mines, but on Impossible they invade your area so quickly that there was no time to go on the offensive. And cunningly ignoring building creature dwellings or paying for a single unit, and thanks to several gold mines in my own area and lots of resources scattered about, I was able to reach the goal quite quickly. Raised more than 10,000 on the last turn from converting resources at a marketplace.
The third map - The Kreegan Alliance - is the most tedious one in the whole game so far.
You start with no Visions spell (unless you learnt it earlier) and no Rogue Cavern nearby, and there are at least three garrisons, the last of which is a non-magic one, prevent progress. The only way to find out how strong they are is to sacrifce heroes. The non-magic one turned out to be to tough for Sandro, so now his quest is at an end. With no magic there's not really anything clever I can do to win.
Maybe I'll try it again some time, but the idea of having to do nothing but hit the End Turn button while waiting for enough creatures to accumulate so you can field a strong enough army, is such a major turn-off for me. And to make matters worse you start with no Fort, and there's only one Ore Mine and Sawmill in the area, so on Impossible it will take quite a bit of thumb twiddling before you can even dream of Vampire Lords.
And I have a feeling you will need to win a decisive victory against the non-magic garrison to beat the next hurdle...
EDIT: Starting with +10 Ore and Lumber should be more useful than Equestrian Gloves with this map.
