It will be shit.

Hope Roxor writes another review and pounds it into the ground. That drama was sweet.

I'm assuming that when they say it'll be like TotSC, they mean it'll be a collection of unrelated sidequests that don't tie into the main plot (or each other), as well as higher XP cap, new spells, new items, etc.

Which I'd actually be okay with. I didn't hate PoE's story but it wasn't so gripping I'd go out of my way to experience something similar.

I really doubt they'd do their narrative that way, that's not the Obsidian style. At the very least there would be thematic links.

The best part was when Feargus admitted that they offered too much during the Kickstarter.

Also got the twitter reaction I wanted

So rebuilding the Keep isn't optional after all!

This is also bad news for Beamdog, since their Adventure Y is based on a fairly similar "grand adventure set inside a fortress" conceit.

Might as well quote the press release from the youtube video too:

“The White March: Part 1,” will extend the story and experience of Pillars of Eternity, as well as adding a higher level cap, new abilities, new companions, and more to the game. The expansion, originally offered as a pledge add-on during the game’s incredibly successful crowdfunding campaign, was revealed by Obsidian and Paradox at E3, and will be coming soon for Windows, Max, and Linux PC.

“Fans’ response to Pillars of Eternity has been incredible,” said Feargus Urquhart, CEO ofObsidian Entertainment. “We knew, when we started work on the game following our crowdfunding campaign, that we had the potential to create the kind of game we’d wanted to see again for a long time. Evidently, we weren’t alone in that. With The White March, we’re going to ensure that we live up to the praise we’ve received and the faith our fans have placed in us.”

“Our partnership with Obsidian couldn’t have started on a higher note than with Pillars of Eternity,” said Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive. “It was clear to us, from the beginning, that Obsidian had a deep connection to their fans, and with the tremendous success of Pillars of Eternity, there’s no doubt in our mind that they understand what players want from an RPG. We’re looking forward to working with their team for a long time to come.”

Pillars of Eternity is an RPG inspired by classic titles such as Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment, featuring an original world and game system that evokes and improves upon the traditional computer RPG experience. The first expansion, originally offered to fans as a pledge add-on during a crowdfunding campaign, will continue the game’s rich story and expand upon its detailed, original world. Named “The White March: Part 1,” the expansion will also raise the in-game level cap and let players meet new companions, unlock new abilities, and meet new challenges in their own unique manner.

The White March (French: Marche Blanche; Dutch: Witte mars) was a demonstration in Brussels on October 20, 1996 after serial killer and criminal Marc Dutroux was arrested. The demonstrators wanted better protection for children and a better functioning justice system that could investigate the Dutroux affair independently.

Prior events
After Marc Dutroux was arrested on August 13, 1996, and the kidnapped girls Sabine Dardenne and Laetitia Delhez were freed from his basement on August 15, commotion started. In subsequent days, the dead bodies of four other kidnapped girls were found buried in various properties that Dutroux had owned. At first, the anger amongst the Belgian people was directed mainly at Dutroux himself, but it quickly targeted the police, the justice department and the politicians as well. Many Belgians denounced the police and government for botching the investigation into the earlier kidnappings and failing to arrest Dutroux earlier, allowing him to kill off the first four victims.

A week prior to the White March people had already begun gathering in front of several courtrooms in Belgium.

The mistrust of the police, justice department and politicians increased when the investigating magistrate Jean-Marc Connerotte, who had been collecting evidence against Dutroux, was accused of bias and dismissed from the case. On October 14 people entered the streets carrying flags which said: "I'm ashamed to be a Belgian".

Subtle dig at Larian?

When I cared about the game, Durgan's Battery was one of the locations I wanted to visit in the game. Sounds like a cool dungeon thematically although heh, content-wise... I don't expect much.

It's gonna be shit, because they already showed how you can fuck up a stronghold. I'll repeat myself. They fucked up ROYALLY with the fortress in PoE. It meant nothing in the game. Really nothing. It was just an entrance to a dungeon, that's it. The systems were okay, but sorry, I've more advanced fortress managment sim on a fucking phone. It was shit. The worst kind I saw. They promised a fortress. They didn't give even an 1% of their heart into it. Nothing. Now they want a full expansion based on it? Watching how they fucked up in the OC? Yeah, I believe in fairy tales.

More companions, an expanded character development system, improvements to the stronghold and a set of dungeon encounters created with all the lessons learned from the initial installment. Fuck yeah, I'm excited.

I'm not surprised it's a snow setting. Sean Dunny (Environment Artist) stated he wanted to do snow environments. I have no doubt that if anything the environment art will be really good.

It'll probably be the full dungeon. They said they did 10 maps. That's enough for an exterior with a few buildings and Durgan's Battery I suppose.

My impression from Feargus' IGDA talk is that 10 maps ended up not being long enough, implying that they had to add more. (Alternatively, they may have found some way to lengthen the playtime of the areas?)
