Kojiima games despite having cheesy and long cutscenes usually have enjoyable gameplay especially when compared to naughty dog stuff or david cage.
Ironically enough, Kojima games didn't have enjoyable gameplay till they started ripping off Ubisoft's Splinter Cell

Metal Gear came first.
Splinter cell did it better so MGS copied splinter cell

Did what better? Both are completely different games.
But they do have 1 thing in common: they suck when compared to Thief.

These days there is a lot of shit console games, though there are exceptions e.g Dark Souls.

Must say that Nintendo seems to be the only console developer these days to make games with actual gameplay and content, not emotional engaging shit like this. This really says all about the current state of the industry.

Japanese devs in general have a bigger focus on gameplay, even Kojiima games despite having cheesy and long cutscenes usually have enjoyable gameplay especially when compared to naughty dog stuff or david cage.
:hmmm:

Japanese developers pioneered and popularized 'cinematic gaming' trends like quick time events, cover-based shooting and an abundance of elaborately choreographed, expensive cutscenes (with awful writing and voice acting, to boot). Guess who's responsible for funding Naughty Dog's and David Cage's games? Sony, a Japanese company.

The fact that Metal Gear Solid has been the most influential title on the stealth genre is one of the worst things to happen to gaming. It took them until The Phantom Pain to finally produce a stealth game with half-decent gameplay, but by that point the damage had already long been done.

Vanquish was a japanese cover shooter yet it avoided most of the tropes of a cover based action game, Dark Souls also avoided the cinematic qtes of most action adventures and instead used the metroidvania style of gameplay.

I'll give you Dark Souls, but Vanquish? It ticks all the boxes of modern triple-A shooter design. Chest-high walls everywhere, regenerating health, 3-weapon limit, lack of mobility (you can't even jump), QTE's, etc.

It doesnt use them like most cover shooters, cover here is basically a punishment for those who cant play the game right.

most action adventure games don't have QTE's though
The really popular ones have the most QTEs; and you know how devs love to copy the most popular games right?
Which means we might get more cinematic action adventure games cause of the success of TLoU 2 and Spiderman.

A punishment in what way? The score? Most people don't care about that. Vanquish is safer when you use a lot of cover and wait for your health and stamina to recharge. I was pretty unhappy with the game overall.

TLOU only had 2 or 3 QTE's, it's not really even a cover shooter and it is quite long. Some of you haven't played this game or don't know how to criticise it

In any building you find shelf, desk etc and you use them like covers of course there aren't just walls. The girl often gets stuck and surrounded by infects because pathfinding among covers, that is the reason why they ignore her.

Nah, I'm just a System Shock/Dark Souls fanboy who wants games to tell stories using gameplay it stuff. For short, I'm an asshole.

Naughty Dog's purpose is not to make great games, but to sell Playstations. And how do you sell consoles to consoletards? Pretty cutscenes.
If that's the case, then Naughty Dog failed in making me buy a Playstation. Sony should switch Naughty Dog with FromSoft or those guys that remade Crash Bandicoot.

How about making good games. Up until the sixth-generation of consoles (GameCube, PS2, X-Box, Dreamcast) it was how these companies sold their products, with good excluvise titles.

You don't need exclusives to sell consoles since most console gamers play multi platform games. Nintendo is really the exception

That cutscene was not pretty. Are you on mushrooms?
