What's your favorite RPG from each decade of gaming (80s, 90s, 00s, 10s)? And what if anything from the current decade deserves to be mentioned alongside those?

The Dark Heart of Uukrul
Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss
Deus Ex
Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar

Knights of the Chalice 2 is probably the best RPG of the 20s so far. The strength of future modules will determine if it belongs in that esteemed company.

90s: Suikoden 2
2000s: Mount & Blade or Pokemon Sapphire
2010s: Tough call. I have half a dozen favorites. I'd probably say The Banner Saga 1 and Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2.

Something to say about the current decade, as in the 2020s? Nothing new has come out that appeals to me yet. 2023 is shaping up to have some interesting titles. The spiritual successor to Suikoden and FF16 come out next year. We'll see if they're good. Hopefully Warhorse and Stoic announce new games soon.

This is more a "most memorable" instead of favorite (because there's just too many!):

90s: RoA 3: Shadows over Riva
00s: Baldur's Gate 2
10s: UnderRail
20s: Pathfindder: WotR

90s - Baldur's Gate 1
00s - Diablo 2
10s- Witcher 3 - Pillars 1

All opinions are based on playing them at release period

Just 1 from each decade?! wtf, that's way too hard given so many greats, but just this second I may as well say,

80s: Might and Magic II
90s: Might and Magic VI
00s: Might and Magic II
10s: Wizardry I
20s: ???
My aging mind to wants gravitate back towards simpler times now with rpgs. :dealwithit:

80s: Too young to find any of these tolerable.
90s: System Shock 2 might or might not be an RPG, but I'm gonna say it is to make this easier.
00s: Deus Ex.
10s: Alpha Protocol. Unique setting for RPGs and unparalleled C&C. Combatfags need not apply.
20s: Fallout in real life?

80s: Pool of Radiance
90s: Planescape: Torment
00s: Gothic II: Night of the Raven
10s: Dark Souls

Have not yet played any RPG from the 20s worthy of being called a favourite.

10s: Alpha Protocol
No '70s games, because I doubt I'll ever be motivated to play any RPGs from that decade, and I haven't played a '20s game that excited me enough to call it favorite, unless you wanna count current versions of Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead.
The '90s one was a toughie. I think most of my favorite RPGs come from that decade and its basically a dice roll which one I'd consider my favorite at that particular moment.

The ones I would pick have already been mentioned (Pool of Radiance, Grimoire, and Knights of the Chalice 2 for their respective decades) so I'll add

Crusaders of the Dark Savant for the 1990's
The original Knights of the Chalice for the 2000's

80s: Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord

00s: Icewind Dale
10s: Legend of Grimrock
20s: Elden Ring

80s: Ultima IV
90s: Betrayal at Krondor. Honorable mentions: Daggerfall and Darklands
00s: Gothic 2. Honorable mentions: Arcanum, Morrowind and VTMB
10s: Kingdom Come Deliverance. Honorable mention: FONV & Kenshi
20s: Colony Ship's early access
Could've sworn FO:NV was 2009.

10s: Hard to say. There's not 1 game that really stands out more than all the others. Maybe FO: NV?
20s: Not much to choose from so far, but I'll go with The Chronicles of Myrtana.
