DA *had* an audience. DA3 sold 12 million copies *and* won game of the year despite criticisms of it.
Like I said before. I think that 12 million is very misleading. They have to be shamelessly fudging the numbers with deep discounts and EA play/Game Pass shenanigans.
It's just the number one of the BioWhores threw out on Twitter to "own the chuds", it's not from EA. Taking it as gospel is beyond retarded.

We're gonna need to look at November's sales charts to see how poorly it actually sold. It being low on October charts isn't too surprising considering it came out on the 31st.

I agree but the list goes into the first few days of November (including the first friday/saturday) and most games make the majority of their money in the first few days/first week of release.

Edit: Also IIRC Circana doesnt have data from all publishers.

Likely fake but more believable than most bait.

Veilguard is anti-escapist media. You take one look at it and you're happier with the state of our world.
Yes. Best therapy in the world. Pay $60, and suddenly, the real world isn't that bad. In fact, it is downright grand!

Failguard will put all the BArts Psychologists out of a job.

What nobody seems to mention besides the obvious that dragon age is shit, that why in the name of jesus are the menus and UIs in games like dragon age 2,3,4 and mass effect, god of war, and pretty much any ass creed game and many more other games so overly sanitized and homogeneous !!?
I mean they look so neutral and bland, like they come from the same stock assets like those free rpg maker games who's developers have no means and/or money to make unique assets for their games.
That alone already makes me not want to play the game let alone everything else. Seriously what the fuck? I understand not wanting the UI to be a clusterfuck but why does it have to be so disgustingly generic, it's like sanitized eyecancer.
Not to mention fake inventory and gear screens that have no use and reason to be there anyway, since these games only have junk items and nothing really like some older rpgs that have unique gear and items that actually are usefull to keep or upgrade not to mention part of the world/lore.

The ideal UI is one in which no one notices or pays attention to, UI should be there to connect the user to the software. When people notice UI it's only when they have something bad to say about it.

Classic RPGs used ornamentation in their UI to help sell the game's aesthetics and draw the player into the world. Easy examples would be Darklands, Diablo, and Planescape.

HoM&M series did this as well, starting from the title screen.

There's all sorts of niche awards and monetary funding for companies that make a big song and dance about 'accessibility'. Which includes streamlining and simplifying as many aspects of the game as possible. Right down to the font - so it's rarer to see the script in a game written in a more eloquent and medieval style both in terms of the actual dialogue and the general flavour of the aesthetics.

It makes even more sense when you consider that a significant portion of the population stumble through life with no inner dialogue. They're physically incapable of immersing themselves in a fantasy setting without self inserts or making sure everything is modern and sleek.

It's a lot like how modern buildings are designed with soulless efficiency in mind whereas older buildings generally had more effort put into their design and aesthetics.

Soul Reaver 1 had the creepiest title screen I've ever seen:

Streamlining and simplification isn't "accessibility" the way that category was made up for. When you're streamlining or simplifying the game the goal is trying to reach to as broad audience as possbile for maximum profit. Same goes for the font - you don't see more eloquent/stylized script or no special font, because it is simplier and faster to produce content that way, which means it's cheaper. Accessibility has nothing to do with that. It is all about money.

If you want a mental image to amuse yourself today, remember that most of the modern DA fanbase is actually from Inquisition, and they're reeeeing themselves into oblivion over how bad this game is.

This series was already on its last legs, this game has fully and completely killed it as a viable IP from this point on. At this point you would be better off creating something entirely new rather than trying to salvage it. The only real question at this point is whether EA will simply pull the plug on Bioware or let them try to outdo themselves with the next Mass Effect game, which from all reports, will be exactly as bad or worse than Veilguard was.

And one of the latest ones was in The Witcher 1, I think. Two years later DAO was bland. Later still, TW2 was simply atrocious.
The Kingdom Come games do it as well, and people love it. I forget who said it (maybe Tim Cain?), but I remember someone saying recently that it's not feasible to do this stuff anymore because there are so many monitor resolutions, but that's just a copout. It can be done if you make it a priority and if you give a shit about your game looking good.

Solasta I think is one of the most glaring examples of what inappropriate UI is like. It looks way too sleek and modern (more suited for a SF game if anything) which makes it jarring when combined with the fantasy setting of the game.

Solasta looks like it was designed by blind people. Everything about it is maximally ugly. I'd really like to know how they came up with those character models in 2020. That's not rhetorical -- I'd genuinely like to know how it was possible to come up with character models uglier than those in Neverwinter Nights. It seems totally inexplicable.

It's not as bad as Veilguard, which is offensively ugly in a different way, but still.

If only they added some wooden finish or something...

It's like someone told them to pick between functionality and aesthetics and they hit the functional button an extra dozen times for good measure.

I'd really like to know how they came up with those character models in 2020.
I recall the community dude Myzzrym having to explain that they got shafted with some tool difficulties and these were the few faces that did not require them to readjust the hair to fit the heads.
