When current Bioware directors say "return to form", they mean returning to making RPGs instead of MMOs and looter shooters which they tried. Since they keep mentioning story and characters in interviews, they clearly understand those are the pillars of a Bioware RPG.

Which inevitably suggests a horrible conclusion: they knew they had to get the story and characters right, that was their actual goal, and yet Veilguard was the best they could do. They set out to make a classic Bioware RPG and didn't know how.

That was a given when we look at the dangerhaired sluts that fills biowaste. Blind Freddy could have told them that for free.

I really wanted to see what the entire fuss was about so I'm around 5 hours in.

So far, the woke stuff has been pretty tame. Only one dialog choice, basically. This isn't a nothing burger, but it shouldn't be overplayed either, unless it becomes far far worse in the story later. (Haven't met Taash yet.).
The graphical style, well, you get used to it....

I'm more disturbed by other things.

* The fact it's basically Mass Effect 2 with a Dragon Age skin. It's very weird. Who is this marketed to ?
* The gameplay. It's an action game. It's a set of hallways and beat'them'up arcady combats. I'm finding new items to equip, but so far, there has been no actual choice to think about. New equipment is better than old equipment. So why bother with that.
* Character progression COULD BE interesting ; it has a sphere system comparable to Final Fantasy X (which kind of makes me thing the game also imitates the nu-FFs). I have the strange, awkward feeling that it's going to be, in fact, a nothing-burger and none of the choice I make on that grid will actually matter.

The writing is also rather mediocre. The change of tone since Dragon Age Origins is pretty jarring.

The reeetards are finally finding out it's not going so well for Wokeguard.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/ch...2-and-nearly-21-below-ff-vii-rebirth.1040778/

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was the seventh best-selling game across Europe in October. It's not the biggest launch, however. Compared with other recent RPGs, first week sales were over 18% lower than Dragon's Dogma 2 and nearly 21% below Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth

I think word of mouth at launch was terrible due to you know what and also EA's own controversial handling of review codes, but I feel like the conversation is turning around to the positive a bit after people actually got to play it more.

But that's just an impression of someone who's too online and from within the enthusiast bubble. I have yet to buy it myself but plan to do so within the next weeks/months.
Reception has been pretty positive overall so hopefully it ends up having good legs. It's personally my GOTY and it isn't particularly close.
Hopefully the game has legs because it is fantastic and fun time. Maybe my second favourite this year. I would love to see it do well and see more of it.
:hahyou:
"posting from within enthusiast bubble. maybe we will buy this shit sometime next year on deep sale. maybe not."

perfect illustration of mythical new audience.

It's almost like they hid all the woke stuff past the 10H mark?? Surely not...

:hmmm:

The crux of the matter is : I'm not sure the "Why is this in the RPG section" joke has been done yet, but really, why is this in the RPG section ?

Likely fake but more believable than most bait.

Veilguard is anti-escapist media. You take one look at it and you're happier with the state of our world.

Struggling with depression? Give us $60!

Impossible to overstate how perverse and ridiculous woke capital is.
You do know that's fake right?
lol, i thought it might be fake, but then again, it's entirely plausible that Bioware would post some shitlib-commiseration bait after the election. Donald J Trump lives rent free in these people's heads, 24/7.

In any case, the sentiment is similar to what we see from woke capital all the time. We live in a consumerist dystopia.
