Yeah gotta launch this Dune one first.
just throw it away. the movie craze has gone, it's gonna bomb harder than hiroshima.
I guess we'll find out. If it bombs that hard, *I* probably won't be around to influence anything in the future. Anvi will be happy.

since a lot of people seem to not get it: of course i don't *wish* ill fate to any game (except ea's. and ubisoft. and take 2. damn, lots of assholes out there), that was my usual absurd hyperbole for comedic effect. hell, i wish every game were an unforgettable masterpiece, so my hobby wouldn't suck so hard, but according to what little i know chances are slim for this being a game to tell the grandsons about.
chin up, funcom is not going to concord this, according to journos anarchy online was absolutely unplayable and there it stands, still on its feet since 20 years ago in a world where competition hardly lasts 2 months.
also i need this to be a success so that funcon will finally deliver my mutant chronicles game u_u

I don't really know what you are referring to with the Riddle of Steel being behind a skill check (I don't think Exiles has skill checks). I know they added a Riddle of Steel DLC after I left the project but I don't recall skill checks.
What I meant is its just an unlock. It was very underwhelming for something that is made such a big deal in the lore (well specifically the movie), but in the game its just another skill unlock on the path to yet another unlock. Makes it difficult to justify what Thulsa Doom did to Conan and his people considering he could've just grinded to get the answer lol. It was a bit ludonarrative dissodence.
You better not do the same for the Mentats in Dune. Its supposed to be a big deal for a reason.

The reason though steel was an issue was because most servers people beeline for its access, meaning that new players would be at a huge disadvantage. It should have been the equivalent of obtaining nukes in WW2. You obtain the means to make steel, everyone's coming for your ass, people that could make it could charge a premium or be prized slaves. Instead, anyone can do it and its considered the normal thing to push for steel from the get go which ultimately undermines the point of variety, whats the point in all the other weapons if people are just going to min-max their way to victory. Scarcity is a good thing in this regard and I feel like its what was missing from Conan Exiles, that nothing is really sought after and all you're reall doing is building your little fort and grinding for better gears (so Rust or even Ark for that matter).

But in any case the "Riddle of Steel" was made up by John Milius and has fuck all to do with Howard's Conan.
I mean sure... but Funcom literally added Arnold to the game... um. My impression was the team was drawing from both eventually. I get that from your own prototype Conan game you're much more of a purist and I can respect that. But Conan Exiles is not a purist game. Its pretty obvious.

I'm going to laugh if you make this similar comparison to Dune considering what a massive deviation this game is from the source material. Leto living is a huge deviation from both the films and the books. In fact it seems like a bit of a combination of the Lynch Film and the 2 Dune DOS era games more than anything, which I do really like btw. I think the games did a great job at expanding on the vehicles and weapons of Dune.

That's the thing neither do I. This game has huge potential. But after Conan Exiles we sort of know what to expect here. I have no doubt the game will financially succeed since its chasing after the rust market and they'll usually buy anything remotely resembling rust. But it is very disappointing that we're not getting lore rich roleplaying games set in these universes and Funcom are more than capable of delivering on that as they have proven in the past. We'll see what happens.

My worry is this will bomb not because of the people losing interest in the movie (Dune is a known "setting"), but because people may be scared of it being MMO of sorts. I could be wrong though, considering how well Conan Exiles did. We shall see.

I do agree that using the expression MMO was a bad choice (I've spent a lot of time trying to explain it but I never wanted that in the description).

That's the thing about the game - it's really not just a survival game like Exiles (though there are similarities, for sure) but it also isn't just a classic MMO. It's very hard to categorize it because it doesn't neatly fit anywhere. Which could be a good or a bad thing.

This is way too late to be holding back regional pricing. 2 Months before release and still no button to buy said game - are you intentionally trying to flop this game funcom? lol

Tried the beta but couldn't get it to run with linux.
Some people are running it on Linux. There is a whole troubleshooting thread on the discord. (If by beta you mean the actual beta, not the benchmark demo we released today)
Didn't knew about the demo but will try it out also.
I also know that there are people playing through linux, but didn't dedicate time enough to make the game work.

Edit: The benchmark work and the character creation has two sliders for vitiligo. What is it with this fetish?
