Arise!

It is the beginning of a new era on the Isle of Avalon! We're happy to announce that King Arthur: Legion IX will be launching in early 2024. This expansion to the critically acclaimed tactical role-playing game, King Arthur: Knight's Tale, completely changes how you experience the mythical island: new heroes, foes, combat mechanics will provide interesting twists, as the game is played from the perspective of the Roman Ninth Legion.

This brand new campaign will detail how the Legion prepares for an invasion and uncovers the remains of a Roman colony in Avalon. The new protagonist must reveal the hidden secrets of the Lady of the Lake.

Stay tuned for more information about this robust new tale, meanwhile you can check out the previous game (which is now on sale on Steam!) if you still haven't. It will receive a free 2.0 update and a new Season on December 2, 2023, and will also launch on consoles on February 22, 2024.

This is certainly an exciting time for the lost souls of Avalon! What do you expect to see until we reveal more?

Please let us know!

Was this game any good?
It's a good squad-based tactics game with RPG character progression/customization elements (and an alignment system), although there are better recent alternatives such as Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children, Dungeon of Naheulbeuk, Urtuk, or Jagged Alliance 3. The greatest deficiency is that it becomes a tad repetitive by the fourth act, with two of the six classes falling by the wayside due to becoming relatively underpowered, while the player will tend to rely on similar tactics in nearly every encounter. Starts out better, though, and you should have a lot of fun with it, if you give it a chance.

It was pretty solid. I think the codex consensus is that it's worth a play. I didn't 100% the game, but it has good bones if you like tactical RPGs, and don't expect a standard cRPG.

Came in 3# in the codex GOTY 2022.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Roman undead legions would have been a great fit for their previous role playing wargame series.

Didn't they rebalance the classes in a recent patch prior to the DLC?

It's definitely better than Jagged Alliance 3, agree about the rest tho

Before they patched it, the rogue-like class (forgot the name) was incredibly powerful, a one man army jumping all over the battlefield and dishing out damage that the other classes could only dream of.

This game also had a great item fever element to it for the first 75% or so - the right item could really make a build shine. I agree with the fact that it was just a tad bit too long / repetitive by the end though, I clocked in ~90 hours and the last 15 or so were a bit boring. Still, a great recommendation and they nailed the setting/atmosphere.

Which classes?
Marksman are the first to fall off, followed by Arcanists, leaving Defender, Sages, Champions, and especially Vanguards. I played the game shortly after its release, and it's possible that further patches have affected the viability of these classes. :M

They were already present in King Arthur 2.

Why does the undead have such teeth? Romans filed their teeth?

Looks like inspiration with Clive Barker's Jericho to me:

Damn I missed out on this game, looking at the screenshots, the game looks great. You kill monsters in dark swamps, wear badass armor, and the expansion will have Romans. What else could you want from a game?

There was a book by Karl E. Wagner (the one of "Kane" series fame) under the title: "Bran Mak Morn: Legion from the Shadows". Based/inspired on a less known series of short stories by R. E. Howard about late/post-Roman Britain. There is a "lost" roman legion in the book, not strictly "undead" but it isn't fully human anymore either. Probably a coincidence, the idea isn't that original.

Edit: The book was bad.

There was an actual lost legion that vanished from all (?) records one day after its deployment in Britain, and it was in fact the IX Legion as used in this game.

The records were eaten by rats.

Fucking hate rats. Disgusting little critters.
