We are proud to announce that after 17 years of development, Caves of Qud launches into 1.0 today. A new trailer celebrating the launch will also be debuting today at PC Gamer’s Most Wanted showcase. Make sure you tune in starting at 12 PM PST/3pm EST/8PM GMT/9PM CEST.

The Caves of Qud 1.0 update includes:
  • The conclusion of the main quest, with multiple endings
  • Lots of new music, sound effects, items, and final UI polish
  • Tons of bugfixes and small feature improvements
Launching alongside 1.0 is the Dromad Deluxe edition, which includes:
If you already purchased the base game, you can complete the Dromad Deluxe collection (and get your seal) by buying the rest of the items in the bundle.

What’s Next?
What comes after 1.0 for Caves of Qud? First and foremost, the team will be taking a well-deserved break. Putting the capstone on a game as complex as Qud took a whole lot of work. After that, we plan to continue updating the game, with two big feature arcs already in mind. Whether those are free updates or paid DLC has yet to be determined.

And while we might push updates to the live branch, we’ll be keeping save game compatibility stable between big feature arcs. This should allow modders to feel comfortable getting to work on new mods. Compatibility might break when a big feature arc does drop (whether it’s free or DLC), but we’ll give plenty of lead time in the run up to those releases.

Other than that, we’ll be working on supporting other platforms. More news on that later.

A Thank You…
It feels like a fever dream to be releasing 1.0. Seventeen years of development, nine and a half years of Steam Early Access. The only constant has been that whenever we’ve shown the game to a wider audience, there are more and more weirdos just like us who are ready to connect with it. Thank you so much for supporting us through the years — some of you since the very beginning — and helping us bring something original and heartfelt into the world.

This was already really good when I last played it a few years ago. Let's see if it has actually improved…

Don't forget to ask what they think about the Templars? I wonder if they made them even worse by the final version. On the plus side, the game is finally over (barring nasty surprises like the main quest having no ending or something). It took them what, a decade? At least it's "finished", which usually with trannies rarely happens as they always crash and burn.

I seriously thought I'll die before it could be released, and here we are...

That's a good game with - aside "current political thing nonsense" (don't want to call it leftist or democracy cause it's all elusive) - bad controls. I mean, combing through inventory is horribru. They need to fix it in a way that everything be using less keypresses.

Codexers constantly missing out on neat games because they wanna look cool to the Culture War slobs is a tragedy.
Play a fucking game and come to your own conclusions for once instead of appealing to what you think some polack who hasn't enjoyed anything since the first Bush administration wants to hear.

So what exactly changed the 5+ years other then pets. The game is extremely boring and that is plain wrong for the roguelike genre. Caves of qud is procedually generated skyrim finding iron steel, carbine etcs new gear is not exciting. The character build also suck am I going to have a lot of hp? dodge, it doesn't matter. You will be killing thousands of critters and most likely end your run by dying from boredom.

Just play it in 15 years when there will be a new batch of posters who think of it as a certified hood classic and will praise you for your refined taste.

It's a good game if you can get past the purple prose that permeates (I get the feeling that it was inspired by Gene Wolfe's deliberate use of confusing, obscure and anachronistic words to convey alienness but here it just feels like everyone is a ridiculously over-described furry).

Yes the developers went full retard on people who wanted to co-operate with the Putus Templars (what you relate more to the last surviving humans instead of the talking plants, mutant bears or cannibalistic goatmen? But they're f-f-fascistic!!) but hey I'm having a good time.
