Our honored Ubersturmfuhrer Vault Dweller has started chronicling his journey through Fallout 3 in a thread at Iron Tower Forums.

Strength 5, Melee 15. In Fallout 1 that would mean a painful death. In Fallout 3 that means 94% chance to hit in VATS mode.

I run into two armed guards in combat gear. The guards manage to reduce my health from 200 to 141, but die easily. Then I kill more guards. Then I kill the overseer. Then I kill some more guards, leaving a dead vault behind. At lvl 1. Unskilled. Wearing nothing but my vault pajamas.

Tom Chick's own family-friendly adventures in the "Republic of Dave" can be found at Fidgit.

As I'm leaving, one of Dave's kids is still keeping watch at the gate. Her dialogue options mention each of the adults in turn and how they're dead. She's still keeping watch as I leave. Being evil in a game like this makes you feel like such a jerk. I just wanted to rig the election and be voted President. I just wanted a Republic to call my own, like Dave had. Three wives wouldn't have been a bad deal either. But I got a sweet hunting rifle instead, so there's that.

As I leave this corner of the map, I mentally promise the Republic of Dave that I'll come back another time with a non-evil character.

You can take a lot of punishment. Seriously I felt like the incredible Hulk when I tried it on yesterday.

Christ yes. I was out wandering around and a Super Mutant popped out of an overturned truck with a mini-gun. I stood there, in the open, chucking grenades at him until he died as he riddled me with holes for almost a minute. When it was over I was at about half-health.

I was level three.

Level three.

THREE.

A lot of people taking chances giving it only 80%, that surely has to be borderline for them getting banned from the next Bethesda PR orgy in a fivestar?

Bethesda - games for morons by morons

Haven't played the Shitout 3, but have seen hd video from GC'2008. Quality of dialogues haven't improved even on a jota from Oblivion - same childish stupid shit over and over. They have 14 years old game designers or what? Just check sheriff dial... err monologue and your replies:
- Right. Message received.
- You dont scare me.
- Say nothing.
Next Todd choose: "You dont scare me", sheriff answers: "You've got something you want to prove, boy?", and another great Bethesda style choice of replies appears:
- There's a new sheriff in town! It's time to die, asshole.
- I want that hat what do you think about that?
- Ha! I just messing with you.

Great, isn't it?
Animation is awful, as always. Even Quake animations is better.
A bit later some braindead citizens appears who's praising the atom bomb. Player is activating the bomb on their eyes. Can you guess the ai reaction? Its bethesda style - Retarded. Artifical. Intelligence.
I'll never buy this shit.

Anyone tried a non-combat character yet? If that is feasible and fun, I forgive Bethesda any and all combat screw-ups.

My character was pretty non-combat with only melee skill. Melee skill is next to worthless though. Doesn't really matter since it is almost impossible to miss opponents regardless of skill, did you not read the VD lets play? Only problem with a non-combat character is that you will lose a lot of bullets. But bullets are plentiful though.

They have plenty of things for non-combat, but you just can't avoid combat, apart from a couple of situations.

So, how many whiny Codexers who bashed FO3 non stop pre release now own it or plan to within the next month? From the looks of it, more than a few.

HAHAHA!

Fuckin' tools.

You reap what you sow.

I think most of them aren't going to remove anything from inventory to get it.

I doubt it's possible for me to care less, at this point.

May Todd burn in the deepest pit of hell!

Seriously, I didn't expect all combat optional from Bethesda, of course. I didn't expect Fallout 3 to offer me anything, and apparently, it doesn't.

I wouldn't normally get involved with any Codex drama but I think this one nailed it on the head. :)

... 'damage dependent upon skill' affects ammo consumption. So I found my tech-head grossly underpowered, redlined, and constantly out-of-ammo because it took 2 clips more than a small arms char to bring anything down.
...

Apparently the new fad is to cross post FO3. At least I didn't start a new thread.

You can. It's called Running Like Hell.

Or you use your Speech skill and...

"Yo, Vinny, ice this shitbag already."

Toadies are cool like that.

Most people don't even have to run. Apart from a little scuffle when I was young (and no blows was dealt out) I have never really been involved in combat. Combat IRL is mostly something you see if you seek it out.
