Can't run it on Ubuntu 9.10 32bit i386. "./eschalon_book_2: /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by ./eschalon_book_2)". I'm not upgrading to 10.04 because I already did it on one PC and it was a disaster. On the other hand, I see no similar lib in Synaptic. Anyone has any pointers?

Merida, again
You may need to get that particular library yourself. Works fine on Lucid though, even with the Gallium drivers (haven't tried the classic mesa drivers yet, but I presume it will be slow as fuck like the first game).

Do it. Having to rescue a fuck up system because of broken dependencies/libraries is the Linux way.

Why run Linux if you are not building from source?
:smug:

Debian ftw, but not since apt-get.

These system flame wars are worse than game flame wars. Seriously, what's so bad in using Windows/Mac/Linux (even if its Ubuntu) ?

Nothing. Just that using macshitosh proves you're a dumb fuck.

I hope Elwro attempts to manually install the package and rapes his OS. It will be fucking hilarious. Hope he post pics too. Anyone know if there is a hentai version of Ubunchu?

Compiling and installing newer glibc usually does end up in disaster unless you know exactly what you are doing and are sure that all the packages from distro will work. Usually, they don't.
Also, fsarchiver is awesome.

Shouldn't just unpacking the glibc .so somewhere and telling the Eschalon binary to use that (with LD_LIBRARY_PATH or something) work?

Exactly, I use all three (+ multiple other OS's old and new on multiple boxes with swappable system drives). Same as I either own or emulate every gamming platform under the sun.

I'm not gonna miss out on anything goddamnit!!

I don't know...

I'm using Windows since, well, always, and no matter how long I think about it, I only see a single reason to have another system, too (Mac): To test developed software on that machine.
Seriously, since most useful office software (Indesign, etc.) is available for windows, too, why should I change?

I'm not saying that anything is bad, I just wonder about the trend that some people seem to have to move to Mac or Linux or whatever.

Lol, they added a 22% tax to my purchase (of course I could refuse, but they should've said something about it earlier on) and I've been waiting for a few hours for my registration code. All my recent downloadable game purchases ended with an immediate email with the code, but it seems some companies still believe not letting people play the game they paid for on Sunday is the sure way to success.

Serves me right for supporting an indie dev.

So, for other Pollacks: the game actually costs $30.44, not $24.95.

Somehow Spiderweb Software manages to keep selling me their titles without the 22% tax. They're both American companies, right?
