There seem to be rumors that an Age of Decadence full demo will be released at some point, featuring no less than 1 in-game city and all quests in that area.

The next demo is the starting town (one of the 3 towns in the game, so there will be plenty of content there) with all the quests and features you'll see in the full game.

About 15% of the full game, and yes, saves should be compatible.

A demo should give people a good idea of what the game is like. From this ground-breaking point of view, 15 or even 25% isn't a lot. If a game is well done, playing a big chunk of it should make people want more. If it's not the case then we have failed miserably and should not be in business.

The reasoning, actually, is quite simple. If we didn't care much about the community, we would have done the "right thing" - released the full demo (beta-tested by 10-15 people first) when the game was ready, counting on the impulse "I've gotta keep playing" purchase.

As it happened, we do care about (and are very grateful to) people who have supported us for years and we really want to give them something to play asap. It's not the smartest move, like I said, but overall we're putting all our chips on the community not all marketing and hype.

You take care of people who want to play your game (instead of fucking them over and trying to court people who haven't even heard about it) and they just might take care of you.
^ our mission statement

I had a dream. I had a dream that this juicy bit of information about an AoD full demo would have been revealed by Vince D. Weller in an exclusive interview with the Codex. And now this dream has been spoiled.

That entire post was a 'we are better than everyone eelse we are betetr than everyone else we are better than everyone else' mantra.

"It is soooooo obvious."

Hoepfully the game itself will be good to make up for the butthurt.

Just split the game in parts if you actually want to make money.
The first 15 % should be the full game.
The next 2 x 10 % should be sold as DLC.
Then you release the sequel with 30 % of the game.
The rest goes into 3 sepperate DLCs to the sequel.

VD Learn2$$$

Edit:
A demo should give people a good idea of what the game is like.
Don't scare away your customers. Do you think Oblivion would sell millions if they released a demo ? Hype the game with: lots of C&C and phrases like "Better than Fallout 1 and Planescape Torment combined!". Games are very much like food, once the customer knows how it tastes, he either wants more or will completely ignore it.

It's not a press release, it's a forum post on the ITS site. Maybe try clicking on links before commenting?

No, we are not better than anyone else. Small companies can stay in business only by being loyal to their customers and treating them better than large companies who target millions and thus can't afford to give individual attention to people. In other words, I was merely stating the obvious and explaining why releasing a demo months before the full game is ready makes sense.

Do you think I don't give a fuck about people who have supported us for fucking years? Without their support and faith in us we would have never made it this far and we owe them. That's all there is to it.

Buthurt McGee. Bottom line is your little post was arrogant to the full, you got called on it, and are now crying over being called out. Deal with it.

How much would 10-15% be in gametime? 2h?

I hope it's more like 10h...

A 20 hour game single player only is too short imo.

For a single playthrough it would be around 2 hours, but the area has 5 completely different questlines that are mutually exclusive, so it would sum up to 10h if you choose different backgrounds and play the different paths the game offers.

10h or 5h doesn't matter.
Depending on how much C&C there is, the game is worth X times the original hours time.

Another lesson VD: Don't go out and announce stuff directly to the plebs. Every new info needs to be handed exclusively to the press first, after that you post the link to that information so the website gets more clicks from your fanbase.

Everyone's distracted by Volly's use of "arrogance", but I'm far more amused that he referred to a forum post as a press release.

First, it was a casual forum post in response to "why release the demo before the game is ready? it's unwise".

Second, posting something stupid because you've failed your reading comprehension roll isn't "calling people out". If you need a name for this kinda activity, let's call it pulling a Volly.

Wait a moment, am I actually the only person who has not failed his saving throw against trolling?
Or am I the only person who did not read the script for this thread?

To be truthful, they *are* better than these other assholes who don't give two fucks about their fanbase.
