For the latest episode of his show, Matt Barton has interviewed Guido Henkel about his first person blobber RPG, Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore, which is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. As a game that features an entire faction of ratmen, Deathfire is naturally of particular interest to Matt.

The interview is about 25 minutes long and focuses heavily on Deathfire's "Psycho Engine" dynamic character personality system and the emotionally engaging scenarios it can generate. There are also some awkward bits near the end where Matt asks Guido his opinion of certain other Kickstarter-funded RPGs and subtly questions the appeal of his Kickstarter campaign's presentation.

Guido is the worst salesman I ever saw. Asked the most sensible question ever about his KS, "Have you thought like you were a gamer and what would you need to see on a KS to make you pledge?", he answers that he has no idea whatsoever. This is freakin' pathetic.

Still, the game has potential... that will surely be squashed by the failure of the KS. Too bad.

Lighten up, even a KS failure most probably won't end the development. For one, they already invested 8 months of work into it and he even hints himself (in a different interview) that there may very well be other ways of financing. Though he thinks the game would have a somewhat smaller scale due to less funds.

He actually sounds a lot more enthusiastic than I thought he would. I quite like the sound of the game from this interview.

Good luck Guido.

Yes, that kind of brought a big WTF to my face. I mean, he could brag about anything here about his game, e.g., world design, focus on story and NPC interactions done in blobber games so far and how he wants to improve it, going back to the roots of Gold Box games while enhancing it with said interactions and so on and so forth. Instead, he looked like he was caught red-handed unable to answer WHY HE IS REALLY CREATING THE GAME.

Also his explanations, about the process of backing the Kickstarter games by him: "Screenshots is all that matters for me!". Jesus wept!

Anyway, I am more prone to donate the minimum after this interview. It was OK in general. But I will wait for the second part.

ps. He should have mentioned backing Torment 2 just because he is still riding on its dick (aside from RoA) - even if only on the mild slopes of the balls of the mighty cock. Even, if he did not backed it because of a strong butt-hurt, he could say, he backed it over PayPal if asked to explain himself.
