Lead developer of the game here. I'm not allowed to talk about details yet, but what I can say that I work on the project fulltime now, have been for 6 months. We have a prototype made in one tech, and we're building our own technology as well, which needs time.

its possible its just red888guns
It is, in fact. Alex has been working on this for years. The amount of art he's made is mind blowing.
are you for real? been wanting to get my hands on this for years by now. when do we get to know/see more?

Well, I don't own the studio, nor am I the shot-caller on the entire project. I'm a programmer and tech guy, that's where I can make decisions. Unless I'm explicitly allowed to talk about details, I won't compromise studio's marketing plans or strategies on informing the public about the project, whether there are any or not. It's not my field and I won't stick my nose into someone else's business. If that makes me a cuck, I'm the very president of International Cuck Association.
You should aspire be the Führer of the new cuck order, don’t just settle for president of some toothless bureaucratic committee.

I really wish I could tell you, but I haven't heard any estimation on that subject. The project hasn't even been officially announced yet, which should convey it isn't far enough to be talked about in public.

I'm sure I can say this because Davey, my boss, has already mentioned that on some Discord - we started in Unity, making a prototype there. I was working on this in my spare time, for free. I didn't have much time for it especially towards the end of my previous employment, because they made me a lead on a project and I had responsibilities there. But then I quit and I got hired by New Blood.

Ever since the beginning of the project, there's been talks about making a custom engine for the project. Back then we settled with Unity though, since it was easier to make a prototype. However, over time, we inevitably hit limitations of the engine. Many features have been flex-taped and hacked into it, which is never a good thing. Another problem was the whole TOS situation Unity hit the fan with. So I brought the topic of proprietary engine up again and we decided to give it a go, since it was the ideal time for it. And I've been working on this ever since. Not gonna lie, it was my greatest ambition as a game programmer to be a part of such a thing, so I'm also satisfying my own goals. On the other hand, the benefits for the project and for the studio are invaluable.

So, as you can see, we're not sitting on our hands here. These things just take time.

I'm quite sure there will be more time for it in the future. But not right now and not in the following couple of months. I'll do my best to get back to it. It may not look like that sometimes but I care about that project dearly, it's like my child. But I also have to make a living. And my making a living is a dream come true right about now (yes, I'm done bragging).

Just leave it open for modding and don't obfuscate stuff where you don't need to and you'll have day 1 purchase from me. :takemymoney:

Yeah, actually that was another argument to support proprietary engine. Unity games are quite hard to mod. Not impossible, in fact many New Blood games powered by Unity are moddable and have vivid modding communities, but custom engine would give us a lot more control here.

Glad to hear it's not dead at least. This genre needs more isometric Fallout style rpgs. And less souls likes, rogue likes, pseudo rpg "action adventures" and mammoth shit blobbers.

Like what? Sounds like bullshit. If you were targeting consoles, Unity could be problematic in terms of memory management. They'd still certify you, even if it crashed every 2 hours, it's the Unity exemption, so I don't see the "limitation". But to say that you can't make a 3D RPG framework on top of Unity reeks of incompetence.

Unless you're scoring points with the 80 iq crowd. They love hearing "ue/unity's shit, you must make your own engine" stories.

Or probably someone just wanted to write his own engine for the fun of it, and managed to sell that redundant time sink to the technically incompetent director.

The way I see it, the only redundant time sink is a discussion with a know-it-all jerk who, after first insulting me, asks me a question he's already figured out all the answers to, including analysis of my motivations and performance reviews of my superiors. Either you come across some manners real quick or you can keep on talking with yourself here, the choice is all yours.

fair enough. he did post a whole bunch of screenshots a while back though, so i assume it would be alright to do so again? (wishful thinking: make it at least a semi-regular thing) i think i speak for everyone when i say we'll take whatever we can get. best of luck with everything :salute:

I'm sure it would be ok... if he gives that ok, that is. We have a lot of art coming in, Alex is a beast, so there would be a lot to show at least from this field until I make a progress with the engine. On the other hand, even Alex is still changing and adjusting the art and the look of the game to hit the spot we're aiming for, so I just encourage the public to aknowledge that everything that was or will be posted in the future is still a subject to changes.

is the GZDoom wad Fallout: Bakersfield still being worked on by any chance? the only sign of life I've seen is on red888gun's 'boosty' profile which costs $200 to see posts on, for some reason

Well, this is his personal endeavor, I don't know much about that, he only mentioned it once in the studio grounds. I can ask when he's around.
