Dragon Age, however, doesn't just have a good character system, it has one of the best I've seen in a decade.

So... 6 stats + 12 dialogue skills + 11 combat skills + metagaming prescience required to raise them = best system evar (EVAR!!!!!) ?
Another problem is IMO that said stats don't affect skills as you'd expect them to. There's no difference between a persuasion 50 charisma 10 character and a persuasion 50 charisma 4 character, except in rare cases where charisma alone gets checked.

There isn't? I thought CHA modified your standing with factions and NPCs by a flat number, which would give a bonus? Or did I misinterpret the modifyer on character creation?

Yeah, but that's it.

In a lot if not most other RPGs charisma gives a multiplier bonus to some conversational skills. Not so in AoD.
Dexterity a bonus to dodge, hitroll, ranged combat. In AoD it's just AP.
Strength damage, and carry weight. Which is how it is in AoD, except the damage isn't similar.
Constitution a lot of things, but this is the demo and it's going to affect something later, poisons? I forget.
Etc.

Should there be that much of a difference? I mean, the stat is just your natural ability. Having Charisma 10 is like being great looking and with the sort of look, voice, whatever that everyone loves and want's to trust. Now, what if a person with all that never learned to talk very well? Should he be more successful at persuasion than someone who studied speech all their life and knows the ins and outs of every social situation imaginable? I mean, haven't we all met good-looking, dumb, boorish people who couldn't persuade anyone to do anything, unless it was a member of the opposite sex to sleep with them? They have a great time in school and then end up working as a clerk in a hotel or painting houses or something - not exactly influential.

Charisma is checked and AOD rewards it when it is, but adding crazy multipliers to it would just make it over powered imho. You already get a reaction modifier bonus and bonus non-combat skills at character generation...
