Finally a game that isn't made with mental midgets in mind and has good music.

The game is looking good. Nice dynamics in the battles I've seen. At least lightyears ahead of Fallen Enchantress...

I'm not sure I like the concept of independent cities.
In Civ5 they were nothing but a meaningless gimmick that is very intrusive to the process.

At least I hope that just like in Civ5 there will be an option to get rid of them

Yeah, me too. The AI looks stupid, but that what difficulty level are for

Err no. He clearly said in the video AIs will rush out of the castle when you eliminate ranged units.
Which is stupid as hell.
In AoW2/SM when that happened enemies were creating chokepoints at breached gates/walls effectively forcing the attacker to not use more than 1-2 melee units at a time instead of rushing outside and right into attacker's hands.

Whoever has the account on dev forums should tell them that such behavior is extremely wrong and puts AI defenders at a huge disadvantage.

I remember in vanilla AoW:SM the AI does rush out with its units if it doesn't have any that can attack behind walls.

That Gustav guy looks awfully retarded. What's up with that damn long mohawk and wow shoulderpads? And from the description "obsessed by technology" you'd think he wouldn't have much spells but the guy just cast a massive nuke. Maybe spells and something like a "missile launch ability" aren't any different.

Also, cannons get an ability that damages everything in a line now, that's just great.

Regardless of what the AI did in SM, ideally it would behave as skyway described. I believe The Brazilian Slaughter has an account on the official forums, so he should do his duty to codexia and complain about the AI.

Hmm i dont see why the big fuss about the AI. Yeah, the AI should have wait behind the wall with only 1 ranged unit(shaman) when the cannons destroyed whole section of the wall with one shoot and can hit multiple units...at least with the foolish/brave charge he killed a unit. If he wait behind the wall then Gustav just shoot them one by one with those cannons. Also dont forget that besides the rogue hero the whole army of Gustav contained only ranged units so creating chokepoints wouldnt help.

Some screens btw

How do you know?

I remember you encouraging codexers to join the official forums in one of the AOW 3 threads here. Also I think I saw your name there when I was browsing the forums once. CBA to sign up myself, I can hardly be arsed to even keep up with more than a few gaming threads on the codex lately.

:what:

Now I understand why they removed the to-hit chance. 120 hp units omg.

Looks decent to be honest, even with the HoMMoification of flying units. I like the fact that now world map tiles yield resources like in MOM and CIV. Hopefully the expansion mechanic is going to focus more on building new cities rather than capturing already built ones.

The interface looks like complete ass though. Why the hell do they insist on making it look like CIV5? It's bad enough that Warlock uses the exact same style, now AOW3 does too. Why can't they come up with something original? Don't tell me it's a marketing/psychological design choice based on some harebrained study which shows that players are more likely to buy stuff that looks similar to stuff they're already familiar with because I don't buy it.

The fact it looks exactly like Warlock other than a few minor art design decisions really pisses me off. Civilization V clones ruining mah favorite Master of Magic-inspired series. :|

Exactly. With the disparity of ranged units in that situation the AI would've probably been better off by charging out right away instead of waiting for the few shooters they have, to die.

One of the devs(lennart Sas) did a 14min presentation for gamestar. The first 5 min is new, you can see a bit from the leader creation then he switch to the dreadnought gameplay presentation. Although its the same as the demo it worth watching because Lennart did some thing differently for example in the last battle the AI didnt rush out and caused more damage.

Never thought I'd hear the term "Fantasy Gaddafi" in relation to a video game character in my life.

Guy wasn't really used to presenting things I reckon.

That female elf from char creation... kinda looks like she has her cameltoe showing. I realize it's probably meant to be a crease in her clothing but at first glance it totally looks like a cameltoe.

:hmmm:

Dev Journal: About Dragons

Welcome to a new dev journal this time focusing on the race of Dragons and their offspring the Wyverns. We have a bit of Lore from Ray, some concept art, a look at the Dragon’s Peak monster dragon followed by a look at some of the individual units!

Dragon Origins

Background: The Scripture tells of Dragons being the first living beings to appear from the crucible of creation. Each Dragon type to emerge represented one element; ranging from metals, gems to fire and frost. As the raw creational forces started to settle other beings appeared on the world. The Dragons became jealous of these newcomers and started to prey on them. This conflict started the First War of the world, fought between the Dragons and Giantkin. The First War is said to have lasted for millions of years, but was never settled. The Great Flood ended the Age of Giants. Both Dragon and Giantkin numbers dwindled, to make way for the humanoid races.

Today only a few of the powerful Ancient Dragons are known to exist, often living in remote Dragon Peaks. Dragons born after the Age of Giants are called Wyverns, with undeveloped forearms and limited powers compared to their fore fathers. Wyverns and Dragons are hunted down by entire armies for their precious scales and gem and gold loaded hoards that are the dragon’s primary foods. In order to ensure survival of their kind, Dragons turned to powerful wizards to create a more rapidly breeding humanoid subspecies called Draconians, which they hope will one day will replace the humanoid races.

The Dragons Peak
Dragons and Wyvern live on Dragon’s Peak, the highest level Monster Dwelling, often found at remote locations in the game world. Trying to conquer a Dragon’s Peak by force early on in the game is suicide. But completing the Dragons’ perilous quests grant high rewards, such as Wyvern Eggs. These eggs hatch after a number of turns to, providing a highly coveted wyvern mount for your Heroes. For more on the interaction with these monster dwellings, check the recently release Gamescom Video.

Dragon Types
FireDragon.png

Fire Dragon: “The desperate folk knew the risks; but the earth was fertile and they had nothing. Within two generations, they were all wealthy for the number of their flocks and herds, bounteous harvest and clean water. It’s all gone now. The mountain did not erupt. It gave birth to something worse. A dragon of ancient days has returned to claim these lands. Its breath left their homes in heaps of ash. It consumed the livestock and villagers alike. What treasure they once had, now belongs to the beast.”–“The Fire Dragon of Cinder Mountain”, Dirk Slate, Commonwealth Claims Investigator

FrostDragon.png

Frost Dragon: “Beginners in the dragon slaying business should start with a frost dragon. They are strong flyers, but their brittle frosty scales are susceptible to fire attacks or the blunt strike of a good dragon slayer. Of course there’s a technique to learn and their frosty breath will freeze you solid if you don’t prepare. I’ve lost count of the number of blue-skinned hunters I’ve had to chisel out of glaciers because they had no extra protection from the cold.”–“Fortune Hunter”, Connor Jens, Dragon Slayer

ObsidianDragon.png

Obsidian Dragon: “Of all dragons, most coveted among those I hunt, are Obsidian Dragons. Their scales are more precious than jewels. I remember the first time I hunted one, the creature attacked at night, but day or night you won’t see it coming without magic. It doused our camp with its inky breath that made us all as weak as kittens. We hid, but it spotted us and slew every hunter. I survived only because a wandering Halfling fell into a well. In attempting to fish him out, in my weakened state, I fell in myself. The dragon could not reach us down the narrow shaft.”–“Fortune Hunter”, Connor Jens, Dragon Slayer

BoneDragon.png

Bone Dragon: “Despise me if you must, but I live in truth. My way is your way. Even the mightiest immortals fail, and all that remains are the fragments of the greatest lie, the lie called “life”. We are but puppets to the spinning darkness, and my might bone dragon rises to play that role, until the end of days. Mightiest of all undead, let envy be your strength and break the living. Breathe blight upon all that fear and hate and tremble before my beloved mistress Death. Fester. Corrode. All succumb to her call.”—“Shadow Puppets” by Grimber Ambule

GoldDragon.png

Golden Dragon: “Shadowy twitching corpses surrounded us. I prayed in despair, knowing our corpses would soon join the Necromancer’s army. Then it appeared. The Embodiment of hope! The Golden Dragon burned through the blackness with its fiery breath. Fierce and aware of every enemy no matter how it attempted to sneak up from behind. The Necromancer launched waves of wicked magic that the dragon shrugged off. Its fangs and claws shredded hundreds of undead. We charged in, joining the fight, suddenly inspired by the very honor that we had a moment to fight alongside this noble creature.” – “Second Death” by Derek Shipley, Crusader

In other words, they copy-pasted a dragon 4 times and wrote a blog about it.
Lol u mad bro? The dragons look differently, and their stats and abilities are also not the same. This is far from copy paste. Heroes dragons, they were copy paste...

I suspect the camera perspective is fixed, besides inconsequential zoom in/out; probably so their artists can be lazy by making those 'citiscapes' on the distance employ perspective tricks and facades. Too bad. Only one place to attack is fucking bullshit, and less army size is also bullshit and i don't think i'll be getting this game.
