No lags or framerate drop at all. So false alarm.

Looking good so far. Musketeers fire powerful shot but have one turn for reloading cooldown. Archers could fire 3 times and each movement reduces it by one. Smaller units could overwhelm huge monsters by sheer numbers. On the bad side - AI does not stay behind walls even if he have ranged units.

Played about half an hour of this. It beats the FUCK out of Warlock in that it's an actual worthwhile sequel to a great series and not a shitass Civ5 ripoff. Hero RPG systems in particular I like.

What I do NOT like is the lag. It's perfectly playable at lowest settings and still looks nice, it just isn't anywhere near as smooth as I would like it to be. Don't know why they insist on making games this poorly optimised for laptops nowadays.

Any hints on messing around with .ini files or anything to speed Things up a bit?

It seems tactical AI is kinda badish, when the game says probable loss it seems AI manages to lose it every time.

unfortunately having performance issues as well. Laptop with an i7 and a Geforce 650m (runs civ5, xcom & co at full hd high details with no problem )yet no matter what details/resolution i play at the game feels "laggy"....

still playable but annoying. since its the same lag no matter whether i m playing Ultra or low Settings i guess its not my gpu...

Anyone tested pre-order scenario? Because if it's good I'd rather wait for GOTY edition than buy the game right now.

Hopefully, this will be patchable. If not, I'll actually have to lay off playing this for a few years until my current PC burns out.

If you're playing on some crummy laptop, that's on you and not a fault in the game.

after fooling around some it looks like turning SSAO off helped me alot performance-wise. game runs okay now in full HD and everything else on high. not buttersmooth but decent (which is acceptable for a low/medium Laptop gpu like the 650m in mine). and i cant really tell a visual difference between SSAO on and off. steam forums are full of people with better gpus complaining about similar issues so i guess somethings fishy though and hopefully will get patched.

anyhow, game seems great - and wow at the player numbers. 11000 peak thus far. Stardocks Legendary Heroes and Warlock 1 never managed above 2k. guess that secures an expansion hopefully.

SSAO is a perf hog, it should not be news for most of the Master Race. It's a very subtle effect that makes edges get less light and appear more realistic.

Yep, I'm liking the game more and more with each play. Nice little touches like the troop moral system based on the type of maps you play on, and your decisions, the happyness of your domain etc.

So is this any good? I'm also interested in comparison to Warlock 2, which I considered buying before I noticed this.

Too soon to say for sure, but the depth is going to be ahead of Warlock hands down. It's just a different kind of game right out of the box. Whether it captures the magic of the old AoW games is what will take some play throughs to find out. So far initial impressions are good.

My laptop FAR exceeds minimum specs and exceed recommended specs as well. I can run all other newshit with no lag. It simply is not a very well optimised game it seems.

How does one go about turning off this "SSAO" thing?

Sometimes (ok, most of the time) those min specs are complete lies, but if you're above the recommended specs too then it might well be an issue. What GPU do you have? SSAO and other graphical stuff is in the graphics tab of the launcher, it's a big performance hog so try dropping that and soft particles for starters.
