Battle Kingdom - An exciting new C64 action adventure game that's worthy of a download!

I haven't been awake for very long but that didn't stop me from writing this great news story on IRN, as we've recently been informed via Facebook, that Psytronik Software in association with ICON 64 has released their new game of Battle Kingdom as a digital download. As in their words "An exciting new C64 action adventure game! Travel back to the days of yore and do battle in a kingdom besieged by mighty dragons and other dark forces."

In this game you play as the mighty Sir Bob on a quest to rid the once tranquil kingdom of the evil that has taken over the town and its hapless townspeople. The kingdom has been overrun by evil wraiths, undead souls, savage beasts and evil dragons, and the only way to win is to explore the kingdom, enter the buildings, dispatch the evil minions, gather all the Master Sword pieces, enter the castle, and defeat the mighty dragon to rescue a beautiful princess. The game features high-res sprites, 8 princesses to rescue, big boss battles, atmospheric soundtracks, and all of this as PAL, NTSC or C64 compatible!

For those of you who want more for your gaming, and love collecting boxed editions, will be pleased to learn that BATTLE KINGDOM is also available to order as a COLLECTOR' S EDITION in a stunning full colour printed glossy box that contains the C64 game on 5.25" floppy disk with fantastic artwork by Trevor Storey. Premium+/budget disk versions and tape versions of the game are also available.

I remember back in the day there was no zelda game on the C64 , obviously this was something possible to do with a top notch collector box to boot. It's extremely good looking for that hardware much better than the nes.Now i dont know how large that game is .

Eye of the Beholder C64 - Early beta footage of the upcoming Eye of the Beholder C64 port!

For as long as the game was first announced we've been keeping you up to date in regards to Andreas Larsson‎ and team's work in progress Eye of the Beholder port that is coming to the C64, which looks as if it was released all those years ago along side the Amiga. Well you'll be pleased to know we've got a bit of special treat for you this week, as if you weren't following the Twitch stream last weekend, you can now see the entire stream below which shows the upcoming Eye of the Beholder C64 port being beta tested live.

Featuring high quality graphics and a stonking sound track just like the original game, Eye of the Beholder C64 which could be released this year, looks it could be one of the most amazing releases ever seen on the C64, earning respect from many in the retro community. So look out for this one as with a team of people such as Micke Backlund/Ilkka Sjöstedt, Oliver Lindau, Lars Verhoff and Linus behind the game you just know it's going to be good.

Black Dawn Rebirth - A fabulous Amiga Dungeon Crawler by timeslip 1974 (Published by Double Sided Games) goes free!

A surprising late afternoon retro heads up, as just moments ago, Shaun Watters has announced that the previously released commercial Dungeon Crawler of 'Black Dawn Rebirth', which was originally published by Double Sided Games for the Commodore Amiga, is now free for digital download. This game is the 7th episode of the Black Dawn Dungeon Crawler/RPG series by Shaun Watters, Ten Shu and Mike Richmond and Colin Vella.

Black Dawn Rebirth is a fabulous Dungeon Crawler for anyone who loves this particular genre, as it doesn't just feature great sound effects, but fabulous sci-fi graphics, deadly enemies to battle, and hours worth of entertainment that will keep you coming back for more... Seriously, if Black Dawn Rebirth was released all those years ago in the golden era of the Amiga, it would've been a collectable classic!

Featuring:
  • 64 colours on screen
  • 7 dungeons (21 levels) to explore
  • 14 different weapons
  • 21 different types of enemies (3 per dungeon)
  • Amazing animated introduction using an entire floppy!
  • PAL / NTSC compatible
  • Hard drive installable
  • Requires at least 1.5Mb of ram (of which 1Mb must be chip ram)
  • 3D movement effects available for faster Amiga.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
I saw this and immediately contacted a friend who had one of these Oculus Quest - going to try out this weekend if I can. This actually seems pretty... I can't say practical, but amazing nonetheless. Watch the whole video, what he did is impressive. I'm not much for spur of the moment purchases, but the inner C64 afficianado is yelling at me to get a Quest 2 right now.

And the Virtual C64 is free.

What is the Commander X16?
Welcome! The Commander X16 is David Murray aka The 8-Bit Guy’s dream computer, designed to evoke the same fondness and nostalgia many of us had for 8-Bit computers, whilst retaining closeness to the hardware from a programming perspective, unlike the Raspberry Pi and others. But more than that, it is intended not only as an educational tool but to solve some of the issues of finding an 8-Bit system to tinker with today; namely ever-increasing costs, auction site price gouging/sniping, lack of replacement parts, and unreliability of 30-year old hardware.
The X16 will be made entirely with parts that are still readily available today, ensuring perpetual availability without reliability issues, but in keeping with David's vision, it will house a real CPU rather than using emulation or an FPGA recreation of a processor. Running Commodore BASIC V2 (with some additions), the X16 will be inexpensive enough to allow a critical mass of users to create an expansive software ecosystem, but simple enough that a single person can understand all of the chips and components that allow that software to run.
Three phases of the computer are planned under the "Commander X16" brand umbrella, each phase decreasing in size and cost. Please see David's 2nd video below for information on the phases.
