The description of the game : "ATOM RPG is a post-apocalyptic indie game, inspired by classic CRPGs: Fallout, Wasteland, Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate and many others."

when they try to sell me a game with so many namedrops. It's like "hey, buy me based on the merits of other games instead of our ones."

Like waiting to get a few sales from naive people that just fall for that trap before the project is cancelled or people learn how crappy the game is. Also, wtf is "based on fallout, deus ex and wasteland", is a 50% solo, 50% party, then 50% isometric, 50% fps, and a post-apoc world on a medieval setting but with laser pistols and brain implants?. That's a fucking bunch of nonsense.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 BattleTech Bubbles In Memoria A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit. Pathfinder: Wrath
so many namedrops .. and a post-apoc world on a medieval setting?

Let me help you out a bit:

As for your second question, in this comparison we also like to imagine ourselves riding out on our concept and our role-playing / world changing opportunities. What I mean by saying "concept" is: What we're telling is not really the same story as in the titles you mentioned. Even if we disregard the setting itself (although it being the USSR instead of the West is also kind of original, right? Hope so!) our aim is not to show how "War Never Changes" or how people rebuild after a disaster, or how they cope in the depths of the planet they ruined. It's more along the lines of the question Torment asks. Something like "What does it take to destroy humanity?". The society in our game setting is much closer to medieval than in the titles you mentioned. And I don't mean savagery, crazy new forms of government and such. We're working to show how the psychology of the masses changes in the aftermath of everything getting blown to bits. While traveling our world, you will find that most people carry the medieval mythological thinking inside them: in our world legends, myths and gods are born. Bandits act like feudal lords, honest working people regress into peasantry, bureaucrats (not warlords) rule the biggest city on the map, stories of past tech birth mystical legends, former Communist Party Members and the KGB become boogeymen that are said to wait for lonely travelers near their hidden installations in the deep woods, magic and witchcraft are explanations many NPCs have for genetic mutations and even the war itself. Our world is as realistic as we can make it while still keeping it fun (no retro-futurism, no laser blasters, no smart robots, no AI's, no ghouls even, for now at least, even the mutants are mostly deformed animals). But it's also highly esoteric in a sense. Something along the lines of Sigil meets the NCR. Hopefully, it works out as a pro, not a con :D

What kind of game is this? Neither vid nor newspost tell me anything
Well it's a turn-based cRPG, it's post-apocalyptic and is set in the remnants of a rural part of the Soviet Union 20 years after the Cold War which turned hot in this particular universe :) You get to play something Fallout-esque battle-wise (at least until we made the cover system patch) with huge dialogues and multiple-solution quests, while adventuring, exploring, gambling and sleeping your way through this brave new world!

I'll politely disagree! These games actually are our inspiration, this is exactly why it looks so random :) We also sometimes name System Shock, Sanitary Podzemeliy, and even Gorky 17! As for the literature that inspired us... That's a whole other mess!
The game doesn't have to be 50% of this and 50% of that with 80% of something else on top, to make our namedropping legit. Lets go over all of the names I tend to drop:
Currently ATOM looks like some crazy people made a 3D Fallout. And it's post-nuclear. That's why Fallout is mentioned.
Our world is more or less settled and doesn't feel like the Nuclear War happened 1 minute ago. Also it's sometimes pretty campy. - hence Wasteland.
Victory can usually be achieved by several distinct paths, combat is almost always optional. You'll also get to hack computers the old school way. And, without spoiling anything, you will find a LOT of situations when you are told one thing, while a completely other thing is the actual truth, but wait, it was all a conspiracy, which is a part of a plan, which is a part of a stratagem which is a part of why we say Deus Ex inspires us :) If it was up to me, I'd even add MGS2 to the list, but I don't want people to think I watch animes ;(
I also usually add Torment to this list. Because I try to re-live it each time I create a new dialogue. Are there enough options? Are there enough role-playing moments? Can you be good, bad and/or silly? In most cases, I won't submit a dialogue until it appeases the Torment fan deep inside me. Sometimes I fail. But sometimes we all fail!
When you'll get your party members, they will be these cool guys with backstories, opinions and quests you can do. Also, a mockery of Elminster's in the game. A certain character is going to be based off a certain Lady of Fungus... And also, remember that one line in BG1 where a peasant mocks "the adventuring type", saying he just doesn't trust 'em? That's like the main inspiration for most of our NPCs! Hence I mention BG1-2 and sometimes ToEE, too.
Also, the setting is really close to medieval, you guessed it. We have groups that work the land, and groups that carry weapons to protect these peasants from the invading folks and creatures. Doesn't it look like medieval times until I mention that they're all wearing pants and the weapons are mostly AK-47? :D

So, not 50% solo, 50% party, then 50% isometric, 50% fps, and a post-apoc world on a medieval setting.
More like a post-apocalyptic RPG with a medieval feel, enigmatic story line, large roleplayer friendly, multiple-option dialogues, and multiple-solution quests. 100% party. If you want a party.
Hope that helped, cuz now me fingers hurt!

Well... That's the sad part. One thing we consciously avoid is the клюква в сахаре :) There's just too much games, most of them bad, that milk the whole ТОВАРИЩ КЛЮКВА STALIN PERESTROYKA BOPCT[_|_] thing. We want a calm, neutral non-cartoonish, non-exaggerated setting that also happens to be related to the Soviet Union. My flat for example only has one carpet. One carpet is a good number of carpets. Although, mine is on the wall. Still, though, don't be so hasty to judge our architecture! Many of the buildings we got are based on real life 20 century Krasnodar / General South USSR architecture. As for the Stalinist Gothic - it's gonna make an appearance in a place it's suited for! Oh yes it will!

I didn't know about this game, but when your trailer opens with some Russians talking and then a marble bust of Lenin it can be nothing but :obviously: and

The screens and video looks pretty good, I'll definetely follow its development.

I mean, DRINKING should be a separate skill FFS! (replacing Gambling)

It should be a social skill, together with Speech and Barter. The ability to get people to tell you secrets rather than the other way around. Not falling unconscious and waking up in a park with a condom in your ass.

ive mucked around in the char creation and got past the first small intro area and fight

its STALKER: Fallout

the first fight is hi-larious omg

anyway, some screenies courtesy of the Gaben Cloud:

DB572C952477CC548B92DA74FC05DB52B493F9C1

Char creation screen, you get 20 skill points and 5 chracteristic points to spend

every skill and char is explained on mouse highlght

Pre-set of char names and genders; thankfully no llggbttqqaadntidb nonsense, just good old fashioned soviet fightin' ho's and bro's

4E1D231188D666D4357129A0EA0418BD3A3EB15F

first game screen explains why you are there

a few grammar crimes but nothing to worry about unless you are a autist

9A0164B24D7F30F22952A724C938E6253B218725

Typical; minding my own business when along comes some lads intent on buggery and theft

five of them

HA; i'm sure my intense training and relatively high fisticuffs skill will make short work of these villains!

let's roll

F0067A0DC4DBCEE74A5CB5616446823AB750BCEA

hahahaha awesome

I spent like 2 to 3 minutes surveying the battle screen, working out my action points and maneuvering to a point on the grid where i could masterfully and strategically take out these chumps and have my soviet way with their anuses

after my first move one of the robbers casually walks over to my and one-punches me into unconciousness

fight over lol

woke up with a bleeding bum and empty backpack

first impressions: good

Atom boy, can you make your next game with Silent Storm type of combat and destructability?
Although I personally always pitch for Atom 2 to be in ascii and set in space 400 years after the first game's timeline (I'm not joking, there's a whole concept) - that would be an amazing game! SS had such brilliant combat it pains me to remember how short and fleeting it was and how there were panzerkleins. An RPG-heavy SS / "Hammer and Sickle" is a dream come true. Although I wouldn't want to be it's creator. I wanna play something like that :D

and there's this reason too ------------------>

I think that require MUCH MORE recources than they have.
Like really much more.

Damn. It looks good but I don't have time to try the EA release.

One complain: From what I've seen on utube there is a lot of "Next" in dialogues. I know that the dialog text view is small but maybe it is possible to reduce the number or "Next" dialog ((choice)).

One question: How is the C&C implementation? I don't expect Fallout but do the quests have palpable consequences?

Thanks.

A few observations about the game

1. The voice over in the intro video is just terrible, you can barely understand what the narrator is saying;
2. Writing is quite hit and miss, and really needs some competent editing;
3. Your character is part of yet another bunker tech cult, but unlike the BoS, he goes out on a rescue mission... alone, with no armor, with no equipment of note, sits around a camp fire with no weapon at hand;
4. The goddamned camera, no zoom out, too close to the character, doesnt allow to see surroundings;
5. The jornal at the start talks about the possibility of some terrible mutated monsters that might or might not be terrorizing the country side, but then the first enemies you encounter... all over the map, are mutated giant animals, be they rats, bees, wasps? mutant ants, etc... mutants everywhere, no mystery here. Also these animals supposedly mutated in 20 years?
6. I dunno, it just all feels like its a bit amateurish, i like the art style and setting but thats it.

Fix'd. But yeah, socialism.
It also heavily depends on how many confusing civil wars you lived through as a child. If too much - you're gonna make a Jagged Alliance 2 unofficial sequel.

Oh friend, "next" pisses me off too :( But i don't know Unity, and the guys that do say this is the best we've got right now. We also have this rule "action descriptions and npc/hero speech cannot be on one page" so that's a habit too late to give up and it multiplies the nexts by the thousands!

Hey! Thanks for the numbered structure! Here we go! 1. The Jimmy from his bottle that devoured the world in murr minutes really does sound quite outlandish, but come on! The guy is good in general, especially when the video's sound doesn't muffle him. I'd pay money to re-enact the Dark Knight plane scene with him! Some fine tuning may be in order, but we love it anyway! :) 2. that's a constant thing we've got. Like even now the text is going through it's third Russian and fourth English revision! This one is gonna get good and it's a promise. 3. Now that really sounds like a weird thing a bunker society would do... WINK WINK!!!! (I'm winking because questioning the quest is going to come up later in game). 4. More camera controls are coming! Also, try pressing HOME. Some people liked it better that way. 5. That's actually a lore thing. If you'll talk to enough people, you'll get intel that this amount of mutated critters is a new thing for the locale. The mutants are traveling somewhere through the map, and they are doing it in great number, starting shortly from Morozov's disappearance hmmm... WINK WINK! "Also these animals supposedly mutated in 20 years?" to this I cannot reply without spoiling stuff.
And 6... just give us some time! We're constantly getting better! Cheers!

Good to know you guys are on top of things. Underrail is a good example of a game that kept getting better after being released in beta form, hopefully its something you guys will emulate.
