Those are nice, though I prefer to always extract portraits from the game's files if possible. Shadow Tactics is a Unity game so that should be possible: https://7daystodie.com/forums/showthread.php?22675-Unity-Assets-Bundle-Extractor

Are there set guidelines for avatar submissions? I found a trove of Darklands images that would be fun to have.

I think they should be 96x96 or just a little bigger. And PNG. And good quality images. And Crooked Bee needs to be in the mood to put them up.

Personally, I'd crop it to make it rectangular (96x96), but this is probably fine too.

There's a wide variety in these images. I'm having to weigh things like cutting landscape images to make better squares or how best to use transparency. Of course, this one might just be poorly suited to the format.

The edges of these aren't crisp. Think it matters much? Also, mixed hard edges and rough edges (2nd), should I avoid like the plague? Should I just say fuck it to using transparency entirely?

Yeah.
