If it was up to me, I'd give most of them to AW2, which is a great, highly original, piece of art, unlike the generic slop that BG3 is (still an ok game, that "compensates" its flaws with its production cost/quality).

Yeah ok, perhaps I was too harsh, but one of the main selling points for me in CRPGS is replayability (coming from both builds and C&C) and, well, I was very disappointed in that regard. Its difficulty probably played a role in this.

But I am not a storyfaggot actually, I am mostly a mechanicsfaggot. Pathfinder rules adaptation is light years more replayable than whatever castrated DND edition BG3 has, in my humblest opinion.

Pathfinder is bloat. 5E lacks shit but it removes bloat.

Larian were never into build-porn subgenre of RPGs, so not sure why you'd expect BG3 to be different.

Kind of weird that we're approaching August already for a Fall launch and we haven't seen even a screenshot of skill trees or anything.

AFAIK there's 3 skills trees and you can mix them up, that's about it.

2024 hot take: Tim Cain ruined RPGs by introducing perks. Now all our RPGs are just basic bitch action games with +damage perks slapped on.

But this stuff isn't important. They're not going for the powerbuilder audience, you think Patel would be enthused about that kind of thing? It's all about what you can do and the narrative.

Well by the looks of it, higher skill tiers open up with levels, regardless of rank. So perhaps you can pick freely from all the trees, which would be quite build-porny.

Powerbuilder? They are not going for the builder audience you mean.
Only way this can be saved is if the majority of the nodes unlock mechanics-enabling stuff, and not just raise damage like in this example...

No matter how many class your game has, it is worth nothing if you can't roleplay, if the only thing you can roleplay is -how- you conduct combat then stop claiming to be a cRPG, call it an isometric blobber or something.

Eh, you still get to roleplay to a certain degree with companion outcomes, mythic path choices and what not. Might not be amazing C&C, but it's serviceable.
