I loathe this excuse. Straight men, straight women, gay men, gay women, and even they/thems all enjoy looking at beefy hunks and pinup girls. Everyone likes looking at attractive people. Deliberately making things ugly is not done to "appeal" to anyone but Larry Fink.
Garage devs aren't getting blackrock money and yet they too share the same preferences. It's ideology. "Queer is cool."

It's ideology for the stupid. It's useful for the wealthy.

We're going to get a lot of big laughs out of AAA devs for years to come. In 2030 we're going to look at slop coming out that only started development in 2025, and it'll be really obvious that they did a heel turn partway through development when executives started telling them "this woke shit doesn't appeal to anyone and doesn't sell".
I do not work in the industry but I am acquainted with quite a few people who work in entertainment, either as game devs or other areas, and from what I talked with them there has been very little internal pushback against DEI. Quite the opposite in fact, there is a lot of circling the wagons, doubling down on current trens, blaming the 'chuds' for harrasment/grifting leading to poor sales and (the funniest part) pointing at BG3 as a symbol that most gamers love lgb+ themes. Also a lot of crying over right wingers bringing the culture war to the hobby and saying people used to just play video games and didnt care about things like that, while now everyone would rather harrass devs and cheer when a game fails.

I personally wouldnt expect big changes from any established studio.

Of course, just the companions being unnecessarily flirty for no reason at all, but with no consummation. Like gay characters in a Disney movie that wants to be gay as fuck but also wants to be able to sell in China at the same time. Case in point:

Flirtation in RPGs is good. It's the consummation that's often cringe.

Countless long-running tv series demonstrate that writing a compelling lead up to a relationship is easy, it's writing an interesting relationship itself that's hard.

Not that anyone would ever like to romance any of these characters. This abomination reminds me of the troon gremlin from Gremlins 2:
I'll have you know I was attracted to the tranny Gremlin even as a child.

The ending where the guy decides to accept being married to her? Hilarious.

Basic storytelling code suggests that's why it's often better to defer consummating the relationship until the end of the story.

People in the industry are betting that the success of GTAVI will turn everything around, that the gaming industry will return to growth after that. Maybe when GTAVI flops/underperforms these people will wake up.

The hard core ideologues will never wake up. They're too committed. What I expect is a continuing purity spiral that drives out more and more of the less woke from the existing development houses. The woke dev houses will shrink until they are small enough that their actual market can sustain them. The more competent among the less woke developers will form new companies and, hopefully, write better games for the non-woke players. The less competent developers will be unable to find jobs and will leave the industry.

Well, maybe I don't expect that. It's too optimistic. I *hope* for that.

We have long since entered the era where direct profit from the average customer is no longer the goal, or even possible, for many industries in a ‘western’ world with a rapidly shrinking middle class (and their purchasing power shrinking with it).
They are and will continue to be sustained by corporate/venture capital and government funding.

EDIT:
Taken fresh from the Witcher IV thread:
Btw I didn't notice it at first but the trailer featured the creative EUrope media logo, which means that all Eurocucks are funding this shit, even if you're not considering buying the game.

Commercial success has never been the only goal of art, though. The key issue is the taking over of existing IPs and their subversion into woke parodies of what they used to be.

Nobody gives a shit that some moron is wasting his money making Dustborn or similar products. It's just something to laugh at.

When Dragon Age or The Witcher or Lord of the Rings gets taken over, though, people start to lose their shit.

LotR is the only good example here because the first two were made by people who were as liberal as it could get for their time and just kept the pace. David Gaider goes without saying, and here's the guy who wrote the first Witcher, the one with the sex cards, saying that you're a stupid fragile bigot if you're against a female protagonist and that he and his fellow Poles have no interest in doing another boring "rugged male hero."

Even Tolkien wrote a strong female mage with Galadriel and a strong female fighter with Eowyn. Just do it without creating a Mary Sue...

That's the problem: these hacks are incapable of subtlety. Just look at Rings of Power - they did exactly what you say (with Galadriel being the main focus) and they still failed to deliver something serviceable.

Not sure how "no woman in a game should look better than the average female game dev" benefits the wealthy.
The (((wealthy))) hate the consumers of these products. There might be the benefit of demoralization or whatever, but even if there wasn't they'd still keep at it. There's a reason why most buildings erected these days look like absolute shit or why modern "art" is made up of ugly garbage. At the end of the day it's this hate of people, of creation, of God, that's driving it. Women like playing as good looking women, some as strippers, some not, while men like manly characters that embody their ideals, game developers otoh aren't human, the women in gamedev are fat ugly retards, the men are gay cuckolds. They were created by jewish capital, cousins of the test tube babies they breed for maximum audience disgust in Hollywood.

The consumers are cringe in their own way, incapable of thinking outside of the medium and industry of video games. Deluded enough to think a flop here and there is enough to put a dent in the warchest of Vanguard and Blackrock, whose fingers are in every pie in the economy and society.

The western devs used to make entertainment first, the Message second and gamers bought their games and became fans. Now it's the Message 24/7 and they're shocked gamers and normies are fed up with political leftist crap in their games.

Guys please just tell me, is this game gonna be good or not? mm'kay
Look into the passionate eyes of the female game director who is making this game, could these eyes ever lie to you? It will be a great game, one of the best. Trust the plan.
