I've attempted to rationalize that 4 companions is in order to leave room to expand and introduce new supporting characters in future sequels or DLC, but even if that was the original intent, I have little confidence Obsidain won't use the new low bar as a pretense to put in no effort in future sequels or DLC when they run out of time and resources again due to mismanagement. So, if/when the time comes to expand the scope with new supporting characters, they won't bother.

Furthermore, I consider that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is good.

So which fish man are yall going to romance?
No romance or sex of any kind in this game.
Of course, just the companions being unnecessarily flirty for no reason at all, but with no consummation. Like gay characters in a Disney movie that wants to be gay as fuck but also wants to be able to sell in China at the same time. Case in point:

Avowed_Dialogue.jpg

Not that anyone would ever like to romance any of these characters. This abomination reminds me of the troon gremlin from Gremlins 2:

Although if you buy the Premium Edition Soybook, you can get the premium Gay Darth Maul skin for Shrek (that's the characters actual name), it's very sexy:

Flirtation in RPGs is good. It's the consummation that's often cringe.

Countless long-running tv series demonstrate that writing a compelling lead up to a relationship is easy, it's writing an interesting relationship itself that's hard.

Not that anyone would ever like to romance any of these characters. This abomination reminds me of the troon gremlin from Gremlins 2:
I'll have you know I was attracted to the tranny Gremlin even as a child.

The ending where the guy decides to accept being married to her? Hilarious.

Yet another victim of the modern dev's limited life experience.

Gratitious sex appeal has always been part of the heroic fantasy genre, where your buff Conan-expy delves dungeons, steals treasure, and beds hundreds of nameless wenches. And occasionally, some named princesses and rare woman warriors. Like look at Arena's cover, you can clearly get a sense of the inspiration behind this:

But modern devs do not have these glorious tastes or the ability to execute. So they choose between sexless games, or games that put their ignorance on full display.

TBH I'd rather have sexless games rather than hyper cringe, fishman/lemur fanfiction or whatever the devs are into.

That NPC is even worse than the merman, they look like LARP'ers with bad costumes. Why would you buy this garbage, where is the appeal?

Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
When they said it was the "final preview" they meant it. That was it.

Also it's still the holiday season/early January. Everything shuts down around this time every year.
Indeed. Either this or after Failguard they realized how fucked they are.

Kingdom Come combat is awful, as is most gameplay in video games that fail to realize they are video games. Do not suffer simulationist faggotry to thrive

Ah, a person to whom Bioware's "Press A for Awesome!" campaign was targeted!

The QA in question quit soon after to work somewhere less retarded, and the manager was fired about half a year later or so once the CEO realized that the literally only thing she ever did was fellate his ego and tyrannize her subordinates (who were miles more qualified than her). But hey, 7+ years of experience in a leadership position at Ubisoft... And you wonder why they only produce slop. I really, really wish it was a case of greedy suits blidly following market trends. The reality is much worse in that they're just THIS retarded.

A fellow gaming industry slavecuck, I see  The horror stories we could share if only not for these pesky NDAs :argh:

"My favorite game doesn't suck, you just got filtered!1!!1"

Portrait of fanboy cope.
"I have a very loud opinion of a game I've never played".

Portrait of a brainless dildo.
Dildos get some action. Drakortha - on the othe hand - seems to have been filtered.

I did play KC:D and you know what? It was really lame. It's Oblivion with worse combat and a much more boring setting, which I didn't think was possible.

What are you going to do about it? Tell me I got filtered? Cope harder.

"Haha, I AM retarded, now what faggot, whatcha gonna do about it now, huh?!"

Can we please return the conversation to blue homosexual companions in Avowed instead of talking about actual good games? Thanks.

KCD combat is shit confirmed
Ok back to Avowed
What's to talk about? Graphix is aggressively bland, characters ugly, writing will be typical wordy, insipid nuObsidian. The game will be ok to play, it'll go down easy and leave nothing behind, like breakfast oatmeal.

Also due to the Gamepass + 70 bucks combo nobody will buy it.

More Skyrim comparison/contrast https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2025/jan/03/games-to-look-forward-to-in-2025-avowed

After more than 13 years, its sequel is still nowhere to be seen, so role playing game veterans Obsidian are offering fans an alternative in the form of Avowed.

Where Skyrim’s dull colour palette and clunky combat betray its 2011 origins, Avowed’s kineticism and vibrance make first-person spellcasting feel fun.

Where Bethesda approaches fantasy with a furrowed brow, Obsidian opts for a more irreverent tone. Its banter levels land somewhere between Guardians of the Galaxy and 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons film – which will be off-putting for people for whom the Avengers style of dialogue has not so much soured as entirely curdled. It’s the companions and their personalities that will make or break it.

:deathclaw: I hate English/Creative Writing majors. The lowbrow Skyrim is only "furrowed" because it was written in the late-00s zeitgeist of fantasy fiction. I've read that TES Online is full of incompetent quirky girlbosses and their goofy male underlings.

In many ways what I see here is less Diet Skyrim and more Skyrim Zero – not so overindulgent and without the dodgy aftertaste. With its elements of Uncharted and Mass Effect, it’s a refreshingly jovial take on the familiar fantasy setting.

Veilguard with less cringe.

It's just become low status to make things that exclusively appeal to heterosexual males in the entertainment industry. They're making a game for Everyone. Male gaze, non-queer heterosexual male fan service - this makes feminists of both sexes very angry.

Holy shit. Couldn't make the game sound worse if they tried. Absolutely savage review.

The entertainment industry makes anti-masculine propaganda.

It's 2025. We can say these things out loud now. If you're a straight male with good taste, media is a barren wasteland full of slop made by people who hate you, and the meagre coomer offerings from Asia aren't really enough.

Which means, your game better be good and provide is with exactly the sort of entertainment we crave for - or else.

So, no pressure!

As I implied above, there's no competition.

I would talk a lot less shit if the industry was dominated by passionate auteurs making great art. But since it's all corpotrash, I see it as a moral imperative to call it out.

It's changing as we speak tho. Thing is the vidya business has an even longer inertia than Hollywood. It's gonna take years before the change manifests and we can play straight white male protagonists chewing gum and kicking ass again. Meanwhile tho we'll get showered with more slop initiated years ago.

We're going to get a lot of big laughs out of AAA devs for years to come. In 2030 we're going to look at slop coming out that only started development in 2025, and it'll be really obvious that they did a heel turn partway through development when executives started telling them "this woke shit doesn't appeal to anyone and doesn't sell".

It's seems that The Guardian's shill acknowledging the culture's current fatigue of the prose and the aesthetics of YA/Tumblr.
Avengers came out in 2012, it is now 2025. Culture trends tend to exist in roughly 10 year waves, all these dumb trend-following devs didn't consider that most people would be real sick of this style when they started back in late 2018.

I think it's a more of an echo chamber dynamic, the creative industry sphere is existing in a isolated realm of it's own. that's regardless that most of it occupied by midwits and retards.

I loathe this excuse. Straight men, straight women, gay men, gay women, and even they/thems all enjoy looking at beefy hunks and pinup girls. Everyone likes looking at attractive people. Deliberately making things ugly is not done to "appeal" to anyone but Larry Fink.
