Everything after the first Pillars was just one big over correction. From what I've seen they're just sticking with the direction and tone Deadfire gave us which is a shame.
PoE got shat on for having a bland, generic fantasy setting, but I honestly didn't mind it. I actually think it's kinda cool, the real problem with the game was the pacing and the fact that the plot, which starts out pretty strong, goes absolutely nowhere.
Obsidian's response was to put in a bunch of gay Italians into the sequel, front and center, a gay furry pirate, and some Polynesians or some such shit. Which is funny, cause Deadfire's setting felt way more bland to me.
Not that any of this shit matters, we're discussing something that's dead in every sense, except the physical (for now).

Hot take. I don't think that will flop. Due gamepass and fact that most people are starving for FPP "skyrimesque" games. And Starfailed lowered the bar too much. I want to be wrong.

It will probably cover its productions costs and earn some profits. The question is will Microsoft be happy with such returns.

Whenever I see footage of the game I have to think of the circus in BG3 with all the disgusting looking freaks and the tranny. It's basically that, but the whole game.

There's 14 options for mutant fungal growths on your face, and 4 for your hair. There's four hair options. Four. They couldn't even make it to six to fill out the row.

Pathetic. Oh, and you have an option to hide your mutant features, which is the central premise of the game and characters will still be reacting to them in dialogue. Why the fuck is that even an option? Oh right, because Obshitian have no confidence in their own gayme.

It's already a flop when you see the reception and numbers Kingdom Come 2 is pulling. Microsoft is probably asking themselves why the fuck they are putting money in Obsidian instead of a studio like Warhorse.

If M$ puts money in Warhorse studios, will come with strings attached. So expect that Warhorse studios will hire a lot of chief diversity officers and diversity hires. And that they will openly discriminate against Czech man. They would decline as much as CDPR after ESG.

I really hope that Warhorse studios continue independent. And if needs to be sold, sell to Tencent.

I agree modern games often don't look much better than those from 15 years ago. Gameplay doesn't innovate and their graphical fidelity is barely better or sometimes not at all.
There have been diminishing returns in the pace of graphics tech for sure. The strides made from 2010 to 2025 are hardly noticeable if you compare them side-by-side with the advancements from 1995 to 2010.

I think it's a bit of stretch to say that graphics today are only barely better than those 15 years ago, though. Certain games still really stand out for me as benefiting from modern tech, ex: elden ring. Even Avowed, tbh, looks way better than I think any AAA game could look in 2010. I'm trying to think of what "peak" graphics were in 2010 - maybe Red Dead Redemption 1? I think the progression is definitely noticeable in that time frame.

5 years though? yeah maybe hard to tell.

Why the fuck does the MC look like a clicker from the last of us?

Anyway, I'm thinking about buying gamepass and trying this out, should I? aint no way im paying 70 dollurs rite now.
The reception seems mixed at best, combat exploration good, story and writing so-so, and character building being the worst.
And melee being dogshit as pr. usual in most rpgs.

Ppl praise the vibrance and colourful look of the game... is that a good thing? I mean... wheres MUH GRIMDARK grittiness?
Does it even have tasteful rape?

Where is the pillars of eternity 1 vibe? I don't feel that at all from this game. It's POE2 vibes on crack, which is not what I am looking for.
Pillars 2 was a massive downgrade from POE1, which was actually a quite decent game if you can stomach the rTwP, at least first off.

I found the story and world of POe1 engaging, only for them to go and ruin it and woke it up and shit with the sequels.
Man wtf.

Outer worlds 2 will be GUD, tho rite? RITE?

I mean if you are desperate to play it now, just download it from Fitgirl's site. But come on, what limited appeal this game has is surely heavily marred by the lack of polish, the bugs, the half-arsed environments, the woke writing...

I can't even be bothered to spend the bandwidth on it.

Divinity: Original Sin 2
So, the game launched with ~10k peak players on Steam, with paid early release. Other games that have done that, like Starfield, Civ VII or MK1, got ~30% more players on release day. Which means Awoked should not reach even 15k peak players. Game will flop hard, but Microsoft will come out with the same "4/5/6 million players!!!1!" bullshit they have repeated for all their Game Pass goyslop

My review after about 8 hours. (Gamepass so just paid 22 bucks for early access cause I was bored):

Proof that pretty graphics do not equal immersion. Story, writing, character-wise I feel like I'm floating above the world and its current situation instead of being a part of it. Every character is the same. I can give zero shits about my companions or the looming threat. I haven't made a meaningful choice yet. I'm roleplaying about as much as I could in a damn MMO. Everything is surface level. The game seems afraid to be a bother so everything is streamlined (just like the latest Dragon Age) and it's so "safe" in every way it lacks any sort of memorable moment.

It all feels like an MMO with fun exploration and combat. I'll give it points for being able to freeze water to make a bridge, etc. That's fun but not very creatively exploited. I HATE how enemies can just appear out of thin air for no reason. Just spawn in more dudes right beside you - and it's not like they were conjured or teleported magically in context of the world, literally just appear like an MMO.

It is pretty at times. At least the environments. The enemies and characters have a sort of cartoon style that further sucks the stakes out of the whole affair. Treasure maps are fun and rewarding. Exploration and traversal is also fun but I miss the days of athletic skills or acrobatics governing jump height. I think raising Dexterity makes you mantle faster?? That's about it. As it is now, everyone can parkour like Jackie Chan. There's no thievery or law system, no perks, no roleplaying based skills at all. Even though I choose Scout dialog options, I never feel like I'm roleplaying a ranger or thief AT ALL. It's all just flat.

It winds up feeling like a colorful first person Diablo. Click through dialog to get back to the combat and loot and exploration. And definite Dragon Age 3 and 4 vibes of just being overly safe and streamlined. It actually has me considering going back to Outer Worlds (which i hated) just because I saw a screen from it that showed perks and actual thievery.

Also like an MMO there isn't really a connectton to the environment besides the aforementioned ice, fire effects. You can't pick anything up as in Elder Scrolls. Also of course folks just stand around all hours of day and night. Just give me a damn quest board at this point, it would feel about the same.

So to sum up, you might get some dumb fun out of fighting and treasure hunting for a while, but that's about it. The writing and systems just don't support anything deeper than that and did I mention how little I care about anyone or anything in this fantasy world? It's funny how this came out so close the KCD2 - a game all about earned fun, grounded experience, options galore for roleplaying, good writing, etc.
I'm lost for words, thinking of the millions of dollars those smug, incompetent assholes burned through, doing nothing. To Starbucks with all of them.

Barely a minute into the game and he runs into an invisible wall. Skyrim this is not. Also wtf is that character creator. I can see why the art director was miserable and wanted to kill himself.

I have strong doubts this will even cover its budget from the actual sales. Steam numbers are pathetic so far and I do not expect them to rise meaningfully by release day.
And I do not see this game getting lot of new gamepass subs for MS either.
