I have absolutely no idea what is happening in this video. I don't even understand the words.
A bad attempt at some tiktok meme probably.

Somebody could use AI to morph all the faces into gigachad and it would be slightly funny.

Artwork inside steelbook shows "new" unknown god. It looks like it is holding a wheel.

It looks like Woedica is praying to this god.

Any discussion on this forum is pointless and it has been for years. My post was purely informative. I know few people who visit codex every day but for me it's a waste of time. Tons of shitposting mixed with few opinions which aren't backed up with anything.

The individual zones won't be open, they will be defined paths to explore. Because consoles and console gamers get confused with wide open areas
Tbh, the right map looks like a typical map from the old Bioware games. The left map instead is similar to Veilguard's maps.
What in the world are you talking about?

Hi.

GOSH!

Allow me to +1 UP YOU!

https://www.tiktok.com/@obsidian/video/7467270109791391019?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc

edit: I am sorry. Whomever was behind this, should be fired.

I had best be able to shove the back of her head into that brick wall behind her for such an insult.
Or burn her home down at night while she is asleep with her children, puppiees and kittens!
Or drag her out to the middle of her fields and nail her to where the Scarecrow hangs.
Or shove mushrooms down her throat.

I will not put up with such insults as this TikTok video does. Like wh wtf! Who is this new University graduate still playing Stardew Valley marketing a fantasy game set in Eora with dance lclkb mus? ic wtf!!! And all you do is show a character created everyone has already omg!!!

So now when I sort on the YouTube for new Avowed content I am going to see all those stupid channels copy and pasting this gawd awfuyyl marketing video using music today for a fantasy game in a world that has no dance music.

I am sorry to all fo you for seeing this.

Thanks,
Sherry

Uh, Sherry, you okay? I think being on this forum is getting to you. Which is fair, no one should be on this forum.

Game is frankly looking good from some of the previews I just watched so I bought it
Despite all the talk it seems that many Codexers want the DEI of Veilguard inserted into a cross between Skyrim with gunpowder guns and the art direction and scope of The Reddit Worlds.

There's even a hint of Underworld Ascendant about the game when you look past the Unreal Engine blandness, something about the janky presentation and the scale of things. Worst looking video game I've seen in my entire life and that's not hyperbole.

Hi.

Gosh yesterrday was not one of my better days because all the shelves were being cleared of alcohol from being sold from USA products so had to make a trip to stock up on my favorite red wine from California before the tariffs went to affect today but thankfully Trump bent the knee to Canada and pulled away from the tariffs so there was no need to have to rush to get to the store to buy cases of the red wine I like from California and it was a little stressful with so many others having the same idea to stock up so I normally do not have wine on a Monday but I did when enjoying more Avowed discussions and sharing Carrie Patel's letter from inside the steelbook case then that official TikTok video gets dropped with brainrot design and music that has nothing to do with Eora and I got upset because the Dwarf insulted me with her comment so now when I play the game I will be on the lookout for her and I better be able to kill her for that insult about the fungi growing on my face. But yes I am okay.

Thanks,
Sherry

I'm half tempted to buy this game at this point just to experience the shit show.
It'll be cracked within 24 hours anyway.

The case is probably better made with something other than a tutorial map.

I never liked how the nations of PoE felt like very clear knockoffs of historical cultures. With all that history knowledge, come up with something believable and unique, man. Phoning it in like this tanked interest in PoE1.

The nations in PoE1 never really felt like they made much sense. For all of the talk of Sawyer's interest in history, it felt like he didn't really have a good grasp of how nations function.

The Dyrwood is supposed to be somewhat of an analog for the U.S., I guess, with the Gwanfithans (or whatever they're called) an analog for U.S. American Indians? And then with the world somewhat similar to the 1600's or so? But the government seems somewhat inspired by the Holy Roman Empire of the Late Middle ages. Yet the government at other times feels so devolved that it doesn't seem further along than the very early middle ages, with Raedric's being a thayn that seems to have absolute control over his dominion, and various Earls warring against each other without control of the central government, and the player being able to takeover a chunk of the country and declare themselves absolute ruler. There doesn't seem to actually be any border with the Glanfathans. The Glanfathans seem to have a city that's much more impressive than any U.S. American Indian city, yet they don't seem to be more than a scattering of tribes beyond that one city.

The whole thing feels like it was made by someone who only knows about history by occassionally browing Wikipedia and Reddit, and then shoves a bunch of disparate times and places together in an incoherent matter because they think it makes them historical.

Hi.

Phew. Things are back to normal today as that TikTok video thankfully is not making the rounds on social media, but do you know what is? Avowed XBOX controllers. It is not just that console you can use these for. They will work with the PC version as well.

He's a literal history major.

Eora isn't Earth so things aren't going to work exactly out the way they did on this planet. Perhaps the people don't behave in a way a scholar would consider realistic; well no one's perfect, Sawyer is an autistic robot when it comes to human nature, most people aren't even going to notice.

Turns out people who write for video games are not the big-brained intellectuals they believe they are.
As I've said before, Eora, Planescape, and Morrowind are the only highbrow fantasy settings. There is nothing with greater thought put into it. Forgotten Realms? The silly crowd-pleasing perversions of Ed Greenwood. Arcanum? Stock fantasy meets steampunk. Gothic? Boilerplate sword and sorcery, setting not that important. Rivellon? LOL The Witcher? Sapkowski is a drunken clown writing fairy tales with even more edge. Dragon Age? David Gaider nonsense. Oblivion/Skyrim? Dimwitted, anything of value inherited from Morrowind. Numenera? A Monte Cook flop. Golarion? "We have Forgotten Realms at home." Solasta? More boilerplate.

It's accurate to say Sawyer doesn't understand how to make something that appeals to a lot of people, like Greenwood and his Magical Realms.

If you go from saying a guy is a history major in one sentence, and then in the next sentence you defend his incoherent setting because "it's not earth, so maybe it's fine that it's nothing like our history," then it doesn't look like his major is doing him much good.

Though given the lack of depth needed to graduate with a history degree, it's not much of a surprise.

I get that someone like Sawyer would probably be able to impress "Did you know that the Byzantine Empire were ROMANS"-Redditor types, but hopefully people here are a bit more discerning.

1500s
But the government seems somewhat inspired by the Holy Roman Empire of the Late Middle ages.
The only vaguely reminiscent thing is the elected ruler
and various Earls warring against each other without control of the central government, and the player being able to takeover a chunk of the country and declare themselves absolute ruler
The only earl-on-earl there is your de-facto claim of a no-man's-land being contested by de-jure owners from the former metropoly
There doesn't seem to actually be any border with the Glanfathans
Borders are predominantly geographical features until very recently, things like Roman limes were rare

There's a lot of details and ways that things are done in Eora that aren't in other crpg fantasy settings, just read the guidebook and almanac. :)

I've read quite an amount of history but a lot of it is quickly out of mind, just not that interested enough to memorize every detail and analyze every aspect.
