Old Obsidians games were well received because of their writing and despite their gameplay.

Problem is that new Obsidian games are mediocre at best both in gameplay and writing department.

The old charm of creative underdogs they had has been lost and replaced by corporate, design by committee mediocrity.

Only people who still care about their games are those still high on fumes of nostalgia of their previous successes, hoping Obsidian will again reach the old heights.

Vavra's was a personal betrayal, whereas Obsidian is not something I expected anything different from.
Like I said about Avowed - "you are not playing the boxart". You are also not playing Vavra's dishonesty, but the actual game. But sure, it's down to you.

I mean, I'm not playing Avowed either. I tried it for 3 hours and uninstalled it. I think everyone should try everything and make up their own mind, however I'm not interested in determining whether KCD2 is "worth playing" or not. It's immaterial to me.

Obsidian's problem is that their idea of role-playing is too rigidly married to narrative and doesn't go far beyond that.
Their idea simply adapts to their lack of talented designers and competent technical people. The owners killled too many golden gooses. That Obsidian held out for so long despite its management is thanks to the PoE Kickstarter.

Obsidian cares the most about "le story" and deep narrative choices when Avowed is 99% non-stop trashmob hack-n-slash,
Yeah, I don't know why it keeps being repeated that Obsidian is putting all their effort into the story when all of it is so poorly done. And it has been like this since Deadfire.

It seems to me that the videogame industry has taking the same disease that Hollywood has. Nobody wants to code, write, design, do art, or do anything at all. Everyone seems to be obsessed with clout chasing, celebrity status, talking mad shit on social media. And nobody gives a shit about the thing they're supposedly creating (and charging you $70 for).

No offense, but that’s too many women(and not in the kitchen).
Modern fantasy is 100% a female oriented 'genre'. I am surprised there are male writers in their team to be honest.
Who do you think has the better Modern Western RPG writing team? Obsidian or BioWare?

Any RPG studio should have a mandatory 6-week period of training that includes playing 1st ED Advanced Dungeons and Dragons daily on a probationary period before they formally hire people.
Hiring would be based on performance. None of these people would make the cut.

Remember when Oblivion tier was an insult? Now games are sub Oblivion tier. Thanks diversity hiring and ESG...

Can we have comparasion of the quest design , companions and writing , C&C , etc between the two games? Like can we compare shit that actually matter to the game being a good rpg or not ? Not even defending avowed , but these comparasion are pretty worthless. Just like cyberpunk was being compared to GTA back when it launched.

The people who make those videos are just grifters who try to copy Crowbcat. Avowed is looking mighty shit in a lot of areas but it's obvious that physics-based interaction with objects was nowhere near in their development priority.
Unfortunately the things that they did prioritize don't look very good either (except maybe combat, but I haven't experienced it firsthand) but there you go.
Although not being able to kill NPCs is extreme shit.

What the hell? I'm not expecting Bethesda-tier NPC scheduling, it's not that kind of game anymore after the pivot, but allied NPCs helping you out when you're being attacked is basic shit.

This is not only new game that has bad AI with NPCs. I brought enemy to faction base in Stalker 2 and guards just stood around and did nothing even when bullets were flying around them LOL
