Man I loved this game... except for the immensely wasted potential, scarcity of content and the fact that after a while it feels like an open access/unfinished game. Is there really no hope for an expansion/sequel? It has a great concept and great design. It's a real shame it was seemingly abandoned. It didn't sell well?

Also, while I am at it: Are there similar games out there?

Warband :P

I mean except battles, it brings everything on higher level - missions, factions, units development, itemization etc.

Warband doesn't have the sweet tb combat and sweet warhammer like setting.

But I suppose squad building sandboxy rpgs with tb based combat must be something rare.

As in mercenary group management with turn-based combat? Recent Battletech is exactly like that. If you want Warhammer then there's Mordheim, but it's not as good.

On a little different note there's King's Bounty (Crossworlds is recommended one). It's actually more like Heroes of Might & Magic without castles and the world is goofy fantasy, but the gameplay is solid.

Don't say this on Steam forum(nota bene only alive forum(you resurrected codex for a moment and their own is dead like disco) as white knights and rabid fans will eat you to the bone.
Its really shame and waste.
Its sell reasonably well. I think around 125k+(correct me if I wrong which probably I am) so its not bad for niche genre. Problem is that devs clearly expect better and that they make their studio in Germany and Kraut tax collectors are really greedy(need money for housings all that poor refuges). But it sold well enough for them to fund development of their new game(that we know nothing).
There is rather zero chances for either sequel or expansion or any modding tools or access to code. The way how devs handled it didn't leave any hopes. Which is a shame.

Well there are Warbanners. But its pretty linear(some choices) and don't look that well(in term of graphics - BB spoiled me). Also much less freedom in leveling troops. Still pretty decent in term of gameplay.
From older there are Fantasy Wars. Which are kind of remake of old Fantasy general. Its look decent and play well. I remember having fun with this few years ago.
There is also EADOR(Genesis is older but for me much better version) that you don't play as mercenary but your army consist single units(vs HoMM stacks) that can level up and get new skills. Pretty fun but campaign is looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong and have somewhat annoying ironman mode(only).
Also you can look at Legends of Eisenwald. Didn't play much but it could be something you like(or not).
Plus Expedition:Conquistador and Vikings.

I tried to play BB some time recently and couldn't. Despair with me brothers.

I already played both expeditions and loved both(specially conquistador, the best of the two in my opinion). The others games mentioned didn't seem much to my taste sadly.

It seems like a bad decision on the part of the devs. Expanding on the game would be much easier than making another one from scratch and if the game sold 125k copies dlcs would be easily profitable and not much effort to develop.

I mean, this day and age the dlc format is one of the easiest cash and grabs in game development, for good and bad. Look at how long Paradox has been piggybanking on Crusader Kings 2 by releasing small expansions. Just put together some new mechanics, events and graphics and sell it. Easy enough way to earn money and we would buy it because we want it. Heck, do it a few times and this could be a great little game instead of an abandoned piece. Modding support is obviously out of the picture, but why not cash in some well deserved(and much desired by the customers)dlc?

The fun of BB in its current(and apparently final) state is both the combat and building up a squad from a ragtag band of outcasts(specially the latter). Other than that there is nothing else to offer replay potential. The map mechanics could be expanded to offer settings the opportunity to expand and develop(not just be destroyed/rebuild/vanquished) and the faction mechanics could be greatly expanded. Icing on the cake would be taking over/running a setting or fortress obviously.

There is also this, which seems to be an almost carbon copy BB style wise. We'll see how it'll turn out, I invited the devs over to the prestigious magazine that is codex.

warbanners is a lot of fun. Its like battle brothers but lot bigger battles and tactics involved. Problem with battle brothers for a trpg the gameplay is very basic similar to the super robot games where its more of a grindy rpg game then a actual tactics game where unit placement and stuff matter

I'm playing it again on my travels - I find it's great to pick up and put together a new band when I'm crossing the Atlantic or something on my laptop. Nothing particularly hardcore this time but just had a great battle against a necromancer, geists, fallen hero & wiedergangers holed up in a swamp location. The swampy shit meant I really couldn't bumrush the geists and necro, and had to hold fast through a dozen resurrects & geist wails holding it together until we could wear them down. Good old mace specialist keeping the fallen hero on stunlock too. One level 1 novice did a great job shieldwalling every single turn and holding the line without getting hammered.

Remember to use cheat engine for speed hack.
Double or triple speed and you will never come back to default one.

It is not turnbased, but you should go check Kenshi. It is my best hope, except M&B Bannerlord of course.

He is not wrong.
Warbanners have single unit facing(with rear, front and flanks) so proper positioning and formation are of bigger importance. In BB units have not facing and you can throw BB into melee without worrying that somebody backstab him.
There is also issue of attributes(stat) bloat. Some enemy(like skeletons for example) are more sat check than tactics check.

Art wise its kind of similar even if more basic. Gameplay it looks more like medieval HoMM(or King bounty) as units are stacks no single soldiers.

Is get out of early access?
I remember it was pretty bugged.

That looks pretty good, love the medieval artwork and I really hope they can develop the stupendous battle system with a proper quest and campaign mode; it is a shame the developer left this to die but happy someone is going to do something with it... hell so far it looks like a mod for the original game and I am perfectly happy with that

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I really can't grasp the Devs decision to just abandon it altogether. People are begging for modding support, they don't care, but what is even more strange is people are begging them to throw money at them asking for payed DLCs and they still don't care. Was it autism?

Shouldn't take a genius to figure out: there are not enough people willing to "throw money" at them. Autism is expecting them to keep working on the game when it doesn't cover the opportunity cost.
