(Personally I'm most terrified by Hexen. Avoid them like the plague...)
Met 2 hexes and 3 schrats. Who said archers are useless?

Some new unique weapons are either utterly garbage(like some minor fatigue modifier or durability etc or amazing killer that crush any opposition.

I've got an incredibly talented swordmaster and thinking what to do with it. I don't want to go the mundane high init & light armor & fencing sword route. Is some sort of a duelist terror-machine viable through three handed flail viable? In theory, it should trigger three morale checks each hit, no? And three overwhelms too?

How is this game so fucking addictive? And how are more games not like this?

The core conceit seems so simple. The mechanics are not overly complex - array bros on a hex-grid against other anti-bros. Move bros toward them. Swing weapon and kill them. Take contract, killl more. Kill harder things. repeat.

But while this game has fantastic execution (good balance, good difficulty, good character building, charm out the ass) - none of that seems like a groundbreaking development. But games like this I can count on one hand. This has that X-Com/JA2 type of attachment to your bros. Probably progression more in line with X-Com, but with the random loot + legendaries, it adds a different element which gives a bit more spice game to game.

This game is 12/10.

Just one overwhelm. The three-headed flail is also extreme garbage against any armor, worse than daggers.

Fencing swords seem shitty, you need more than 100 initiative to do more damage than a simple slash, while the lunge itself costs 20 fatigue.

I made my SM a sword user, but with quick hands and having a great-sword/noble sword/fencing sword. The fatigue in bags doesn't affect nimble now and he has enough def to survive without reach advantage, was very happy with him.

Try Starsector.
I haven't touched Starsector yet, But Space Rangers (2 and later versions) scratched same itch as BB does.

What the hell man.
Some people are taken aback by the endless alpha (ignoring that content-wise it has decades worth of play, without even touching the massive amount of mods available).

I don't know if you've played Space Rangers 2, but you should try that out. It's a *bit* different (not really party-based, although you can hire some underlings it's far from necessary), but it has that same je ne sais quoi.

I got a problem with BB's in reserve. I got like 18 total and people in reserve got epidemic of "felt useless in reserve" I'm trying to rotate but eh.

Make sure to visit taverns regularly and booze them up.

I hate having a large squad, so even at day 150 now I try to get by with 14-15. I mean, how much overhead do you guys end up having? Having splurged on a couple of higher tier dudes I'm now at ~400g for mostly level 9-10 dudes.

My swordsmaster did take a voluntary pay cut though, very nice of him.
