Soo, if certain cities hate me because I refused to give up some of my men. How do you get back on their good side?

There are multiple cities that have a "Threatening" relationship with me. That means attack on sight with multiple stacks. Anyway to get back to "green"? Or am I permanently enemy number one?

Relationships "decay" towards neutral. Once they're not too hostile, you can start doing contracts for them again.

Any hint as to how long it usually takes?

I had to retreat twice from a multiple stack assault. All of my company is fucked up and it requires something like 115 medical supplies to get back into shape again :D

Never timed it, really. A few weeks? Not fast enough to count on getting medicine there. How much of the map did you piss off?

The Hunt for Red Orctober comes to a close.

Unfortunately, I actually canceled the contract literally right before this bastard showed up. I couldn't find him anywhere and was losing money running around seeking him out. Ironically, I lost four good men beating up greenskins to drag him out of hiding -- but lost nobody in the actual confrontation. And somewhat coincidentally, I killed another warlord during this mini-campaign.

So, tallied up...

Burning down greenskin encampments: four brothers.
Running a single contract with no financial support: about five thousand crowns.
Canceling your 6,000 crown contract right as the target appears: literally priceless.

I had a 19 turn battle against 17 undead in some cemetery. They have no necromancers, but 3 fallen heroes and 14 leser undeads.
So I thought, 'this isn't so bad, they don't self rez without a necro around right?'
Wrong.
I lost count how many double-kills i did , but i was shocked to see a Fallen Hero rising up even after being decapitated!
He literally got up, HEADLESS. With a neck stump and zero head HP.
Fuck sake. I got really mad seeing that , every bro is nearing fatigue - then I realized I can pick up the fallen undead's weapons so when they rise again, they are unarmed and deal very low damage.
I deployed 2 war dogs to bite off the random risings and proceed to slowly shield bash those fucking heroes.
Miraculously, no brothers fell.
Only to get 4 of them killed in a 3 zerker 6 young ork 1 ork raider camp.

This game is getting tedious... Fights against the faction armies are too hard, and town missions aren't paying enough to upgrade my equipment. So I'm in kind of a holding pattern. Also, if I keep doing town missions, my rep goes up and the faction missions just get even harder.

If this keeps up I will probably quit playing... It's a shame. It was a gud game.

Don't be lazy when dispensing advice lah.
In the end, it's for the good of the series that people like you, the pro ones guide the beginners on how to tackle the game's challenges instead of them just giving up and shitting on the game.

Being new at this game, I don't know whether to agree or disagree whether he played like shit or the game is unfair.
There's not enough data and the meta is still out there.
There are still consideration to be made when picking weapons. 2-tile pole weapons vs 1-tile 2-hander, AOE, Slashing, Stunning, Chance to hit Head, Shield bashing.
There are many good and bad points about weapons that you can't easily conclude until you try more options.
I'm pretty sure every faction has a different pros and cons - and you gotta adjust your gears load out properly.

I think it depends what primary enemy you're facing. Orcs aren't too bad. Neither are goblins once you're kitted. Professional human armies are pretty difficult as they bring a fairly balanced fighting force. And then there's the Ancient Undead which can be very tricky. I think inexperienced players going against the Ancient Undead is going to end with the most disastrous results.

Outfitting yourself with the proper weapons is half the battle, but that comes with experience as RK47 noted. Just want to point out that when the goblins were introduced that the Steam forum almost imploded with frustration. Now, people adapted and a lot of players bowl over the goblins pretty easily. You either win or you learn.

The war between the noble houses has one very annoying dynamic, which feels like it's got to be a bug or unintended feature: if you're at war with a town's owner, your reputation in the town also takes a large hit. However, this isn't a reputation debuff; it's a straight reputation loss. This is significant in at least two cases:

You join the war against a house, but you take no action against certain cities during the war. These cities continue to hate you after the war. (Possibly reasonable, since they might just hate the mercs who won the war against their house, but that seems like it'd be covered in faction rep.)

Towns changing hands is really bad! For example, say your enemy conquers your ally's town, which you had max rep in. The town now hates you (because it's owned by the enemy), and if you liberate it, it doesn't go back to liking you--it still hates you. If a town is owned by the enemy, conquered, and then reconquered, it gets the "enemy" rep hit twice.

e: rapsdjff says this will be fixed in the next update, which may have been the one that came out today.

I think the "enemy", "allied", etc. stuff wears off over time. I know a town started hating me (zero rep) because I killed a band of mercs they hired. But over time it went back up toward "neutral".

Yes, one of the most annoying ambitions for me is the "get to allied with a noble house"--I can't get contracts fast enough to keep up with decay. Takes me a month at least.

Does the game even have a winning condition? All I've seen so far are the ambitions. I haven't seen a story.

You should be getting hints about the late game crisis throughout. It'll show up in force about three+ months in, I think.

rapsdjff Would it be possible to make hiring bros with their equipment optional? Paying for equipment that's going to get swapped out and sold immediately is kind of a pain.

EDIT: PS my offer re: Darklands remake still stands.

Game really needs little gravestones on the map where you lost bros. That would be nice.
