I'm a little out of the loop. Posts from old school true-blooded bros with standards and point of reference as to what quality actually is only pls. Not gonna happen but hey. Indies, AA, AAA doesn't matter. Hell even a mobile game if it genuinely deserves it.

I'm aware of and have played some e.g Sekiro qualifies though is of course imperfect.

Ashes 2063

Played it years ago...and yeah. Damn good.

By the way, not even a 5 minute search...

Firstly, those are cRPGs only. I want any and all games if quality is present.

Secondly, there's a lot of storyfags in RPG discussion, storyfag games dominate Codex awards typically...for all the casual gamers etcetera in general gaming it's still easier for me to filter the good opinions out.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.

Got it, still, just like I said, it could serve as a good starting point.

I was lazy and just filtered my steam library, so this is the best out of what I own on steam, fully released only, based on their steam release date:

Best games (SSS tier you could say):

  • Sekiro
  • Suzerain
  • Stasis Bone Totem

Honorary mentions:

  • Caves of Lore
  • Vampire Survivors
  • King Arthur Knight's Tale
  • Intravenous
  • JA3
  • Neon White
Games I actually spent the most time on:

  • Total Warhammer 3
  • Hitman
  • My weird porn games and even weirder non-porn ones
Book masquerading as a game:

  • Lords of Infinity

If you included 2018 I would have a lot more.

I'm also out of the loop. I'm behind on anything past 2018, There's just too many games. but:

SKALD: Against the Black Priory
Against the Storm
7 Days to Die 1.0 *
Hitman 3
Horizon's Gate (with reservations)
Path of Achra

*has been out in Early Access for a lot of years, and you might consider its genre to be degenerate (it kind of is). But I've put 200 hours in this year.

I actually tried 7 days to die. Couldn't get past the total technical jank, absolute freedom philosophy to game and world design (decline as we discussed in other thread), highly modular game setup (create a strong vision and stick with it. Anything else is WEAK). Ultimately I didn't play it long though, refunded, so my opinion is not too valid. Didn't seem bad just...meh. Played Darkwood yet?

Filcher is a pretty good stealth game inspired by thief.
CTRL alt ego is a immersive sim liked by the codex.
There is probably a lot more but i am not really interested in games past 2020 so...

I play like 1 game a year, but...

Jagged Alliance 3 - not as cool as classic JA, but still great in its own way. Big campaign, mostly balanced mercenary roster with many options and even some C&C. I don't think you can go wrong with this one if you like turn-based tactical combat.
Colony Ship - cool sci-fi setting and presentation, challenging TB combat and hard C&C. Typical Iron Tower restrictive design, so it's not for everyone.
Outward - Gothic style open world exploration, obsessive inventory management, rather underwhelming soulslike combat but with great build variety. Big world to explore with no handholding(not even map markers!), which is great if you like that sort of thing. If you ever used "hiking simulator" as a slur then stay away, because this is what you'll be doing 90% of the time.
Knights of the Chalice 2 (only played the "tutorial") - not my cup of tea, but probably the best implementation of D&D turn-based combat.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
The Case of the Golden Idol - If you liked Return of the Obra Dinn, this should appeal to you.

Robocop: Rogue City - Come in for the nostalgia, stay for the actually decent game it is.

Spellforce: Conquest of Eo - Just for the title theme, no comment on the game itself.

Aliens: Dark Descent - Surprisingly good tactical shooter.

Some good recommendations here. And of course some shit ones, but what you gonna do?

Against the Storm
Elden Ring
Golden Idol
Animal Well

are all pretty unimpeachable.

Midnight Suns is also fucking great aside from the absolutely atrocious social-sim shit that makes up about 25% of the game.
