Nintendo's new console has a bizarre new use: approximating the feeling of breasts

Nintendo is known in the United States for its family-friendly attitude, games, and characters. We're talking about the company behind beloved characters like Super Mario, Donkey Kong, and Kirby — characters that have dominated the imaginations of children for 30-plus years.

And that's why it was especially bizarre when a video from Nintendo popped up this week where a brazenly sexual game was showcased on the company's newest console, the Nintendo Switch:

The GIF you see above is from the video in question, wherein a game in the "Senran Kagura" franchise is demonstrated — it's a game produced by Japanese publisher Marvelous Entertainment, and the franchise traditionally appears on Nintendo and Sony consoles.

Though the series is notorious for awkward sexuality, it was a pretty major surprise to see the clip in question pop up on a Nintendo-produced video; the equivalent video in the US focused on new Switch games like "Splatoon 2" and "Arms."

"Senran Kagura: Estival Versus" launched on the PlayStation 4 and Vita in 2016. It's available worldwide.

More specifically, what's being demonstrated is related to a function of the Nintendo Switch gamepads, called "HD Rumble." Through this, players are able to "feel" various things while holding each of the Switch's small gamepads.

Like so:

HD Rumble is demonstrated in a video, showcasing how the function simulates the feeling of water being poured into an ice-filled glass. Nintendo

In the example given in the video, fake lab technicians are seen "testing" the HD Rumble's ability to replicate the feeling of breasts. It's not clear whether or not this is in the actual game, though it wouldn't be surprising if it was — this is not a series known for its subtlety.

The full video is available here, though it's maybe not the safest thing to watch at a work/school desk:

I remember when 640 x 480 was like a luxury. Some years after that I tried 1024x768 and thought it was actually overwhelming. 1080p seems ideal for contemporary computer use imo. More than that is actual overkill and might be hurting your eyes too much.

German authority rules that streamers require a 10,000€ broadcasting license

German authority Landesmedienanstalt has temporarily ruled that Twitch streamers will need to purchase an expensive license to stream video on the site. Because of outdated laws, streaming is lumped under the same category as a television or radio broadcaster.

The temporary law means streamers require a Rundfunklizenz (broadcasting license) that can cost between 1000€-10,000€. The amount varies by audience size and a few other factors. Essentially, the bigger the streamer, the bigger the cost.

Not only does this potentially mean streamers need to fork out, but they will also have to abide by other regulations. Some content could be banned before 10pm, much like the 9pm broadcasting watershed for television here in the UK.

Those who don’t follow the rules will be classed as a pirate station and subject to penalties.

Fortunately for streamers, the Landesmedienanstalt admit they need to revise the laws, as they weren’t created with these new broadcasting methods in mind. For now, the ruling has been put in place as not to set a precedent for TV and radio to ditch fees.
Some german politician must have been mocked off twitch recently. Probably tried to get popular with whatever is popular among the german community.
Most likely eurotruck simulator or something.

It is possible to totally avoid combat in Diablo 2 (well not really)

Watch a guy speedrun all of Diablo 2 without attacking a single enemy
The pacifist run took nearly eight hours to complete.

If you've got eight hours to spare and a strange desire to watch a guy run through the entirety of Diablo 2 without taking a swing at anything, then this is your very specifically lucky day: A fellow by the name of DrCliche managed to do just that, and has shared the whole thing on YouTube.

The good doctor explained how he got through it on Reddit, and there's more to the run than just hauling ass all over the countryside. He began with "chest farming" the house nearest the Rogue encampment in the opening act—hence the repeated saves and restarts—and shopping for specific equipment from Charsi, and then slowly (and very carefully) leveling up along a particular, survival-geared path.

As is often the case with speedruns, the rules for Diablo 2 Pacificist runs are a little arbitrary, and they don't include not killing anything: In fact, one of the first orders of business was to find and equip "Thorns" armor, which deals counter-damage when the character is hit, and later the Shiver armor, which inflicts cold damage on enemies who land a blow.

This is necessary, because pacifist or not, boss enemies do have to die in order to advance the game, and as you can see around the 2:22 mark in the fight against Andariel, the only way to make it happen is to stand there and take the abuse, and let the passives do their thing. It's a tedious but relatively straightforward process, except for the Act Four "Chaos Sanctuary" boss Lord de Seis, who doesn't have a melee attack, and whose ranged and elemental attacks don't trigger Nova Shield—the only damage source in the game that doesn't do so. On top of all that, Lord de Seis can heal himself with the Bestow spell.

"But De Seis's elemental attacks do proc Chilling Armor, and at level 30, with Cold Mastery, 6 points in Chilling Armor, and a +2 staff, you do damage quickly and consistently enough to keep Lord de Seis from ever casting Bestow," DrCliche wrote. "Diablo is almost a joke in comparison, but do watch out for his Lightning Snake."

The real trouble, though, is found in the Hellforge in Act Four. "The Hellforge has a 1 in 11 chance of dropping an Amn rune, completing your Edge," he explained. ["Edge" is a three-part Runeword that works in three-socket bows, granting a level 15 Thorns aura when equipped.] "Without the level 15 Thorns provided by Edge, it would be wholly impractical (if not impossible) to continue. If you don't get the Amn, the first monsters that can drop one are the Council Members in Act 3, but Amn drops in Normal are exceedingly rare. If the Hellforge doesn't deliver, your run is over."

But after that, it's smooth sailing. "Act 5 is simple and easy," DrCliche wrote. "Teleport to the Ancients, and then Baal, and bravely weather the storm until they submit to your moral superiority."

Nice work, DrCliche, even though I suspect PETA probably still won't support this particular brand of pacifism. They're probably penning a "Won't someone think of the demons?" press release as we speak.
