Seems to be a pretty logical move from Microsoft - given they can't seem to come up with any AAA games themselves to compete with Sony's exclusives they're going to swallow up as many studios as possible to add value to Gamepass/starve Sony of those titles.

It's same reason why you had to die in the ending of fallout 3.
wait what
Yep, to be the hero you have to die, so go on ahead and step right over here into this fatally radioactive chamber. Good luck and thanks for all the fish.
glad I quit playing every bethesda game like 10 hours in
later bethesda made a post-game DLC where you character wakes up few days after his suicide and continues adventuring.

well yeah, bethesda can't write, news at 11. At least you can ignore the bullshit main quest and just hike around the world, shoot shit, buy perks and collect rare guns.

Or just mod until becomes another game.

I actually really like to play modded skyrim sometimes.

In 3 you HAVE to sacrifice youself or your female companion even if you have a ghoul or super mutant (both imune to radiation) to go in a place with a shit ton of rads..
Don't forget the Robot too.

And it's even worse than that, the ghoul Charon has to do everything his contract holder tells him to do, even if he doesn't want to. Clover is your slave with a slave collar attached to her neck, after you order her to do it, she still refuses to go. Fawkes the super mutant that owes his life to you and is always talking about how he can never repay you for what you did for him, just tells you that he would not rob you of your fate (which he knows means your death). Star Paladin is a goody-two-shoes BoS cyborg, she can probably survive higher amounts of radiation where other humans can't, but she also tell you it's your destiny, go and finish what your daddy started. RL-3 is a military robot that calls you sir and has to follow your orders like you're it's CO, all of a sudden calls you soldier (instead of sir) and orders you to do it.

The only companions that would make any sense refusing to go there are Butch (asshole bully), Jericho (evil ex-raider) and Dogmeat (it's a dog).

And even after Bethesda released Broken Steel, which "fixes" some of this, the ending slides still say your character "refused to follow on the father's selflessness and instead allowed a true hero to turn on project purity" for sending someone else there, even if they are immune to radiation.

c. Did you, somehow, miss that godforsaken refuse they dubbed the "Gothic Playable Teaser" as a prelude to a remake? The absolute joke that is the Kingdoms of Amalur remaster? The dumbing-down of Destroy All Humans for the sake of shiny new graphics? The fact that their Darksiders and Red Faction re-releases remain just as buggy as the originals?

THQ nordic is AWFUL but at least the studios under his umbrella has more independence. Elex despite not being good as G1/G2 but is not a bad game. All that is being produced by USA is gear farming, cooldown managing unimmersive boring games. THQ allow his studios to produce complete BS like the G1 "remake"(why not a remaster?) but also allow their studios to produce games like Elex. THQ gives more freedom to his studios. Piranha Bytes declined far less than BioWare for eg. Elex is not good as G1/G2, but the difference between Elex and G1 is not the difference between DA:I to BG. And Bugthesda already declined a lot.

If PB was owned by M$/Soyny/EA/Wathever, I an pretty sure that no game like elex would ever be produced.

And JoWood damaged far more the Gothic name than THQ ever could dream.

So, the choice between the next Sony and Microsoft console you choose seems to boil down to the exclusives each system will be sporting:

Sony: Post-apocalyptic Tranny simulators
Microsoft: Medieval monkey-written walking simulators

Clearly, they each have their strengths.

The problem stems from a lack of people physically assaulting the devs if they fail to deliver and not forcing them to consume amphetamines to meet deadlines.
I warned you about treating gamedevs like humans bro

Lashings in the town square never should have been abolished. Devs got complacent, one even dared to laugh, and a rare one said "drugs to speed up my work flow? No thank you."

Once Terry Tate: Studio Linebacker was fired, it was all downhill from there.

US and China game industries are fucked. The only hope left is in Europe and Japan. And maybe some indie.

Microsoft is no longer competing with Sony because this could be the last generation of physical consoles.

Their master plan is Gamepass + xCloud (games as a service) also known as Netflix for games :) 100$+ per year forever and ever.

Anything goes as long as they hook more people on Gamepass. That's why they will release exclusives on PS5 and so on. They don't care about that.

They will buy everything until most people will be left without options except of using Gamepass. This is the nuclear option for Microsoft.

They also just triggered another wave of consolidations in the industry which means that the landscape will be completely different in a few years.

I can only hope that they fail miserably but I doubt it. They are really throwing their weight behind this push.
