Don't know about anyone else but I am just interested to know what actual RPG Black likes so I can go play a brilliant RPG
Try Fallout and Arcanum first.

You complain about shitty combat and then mention Arcanum?

:tearoffail:
He asked what quality RPGs I play. I responded.
Unless you really think that bad combat in Arcanum makes it equal to BG, in which case you're just a dumbfuck material.

Shit, I should pick BG2 up again some time. I started a playthrough of it about a year ago, got to about the end of chapter 2. I should finish it and move on to ToB, which I never tried. BG2's a pretty weird game, it's amazing how fun it is in comparison to the first one, and just how fun it is overall, despite being rather anemic in everything but dungeons and combat. It's just plain fun I guess.

Indeed It's quite hard to leave Chapter 2. You just gotta man up and hulk out.

Yeah, it's hard to move on from ch2. But that's mainly because ch2 is bursting over with quests and places to explore, and I like to take my sweet time to see and do as much as possible.

It's either the Fixpack or the Tweakpack that allows you to remove the Planetar/Deva limit.

Ok then I have both.
But summoning more than 1 thru Images works?

Wouldn't that still be an exploit? See you cheated your way through the final battle just like me. Now you have to finish it again.

Anyone interested in getting a bit more out of their ToB, might want to check this mod out.

That being said, ToB was quite a dissapointment back when it came out, but the "improved battles" and "ascension" mods released not long afterwards by David Gaider made the endgame at least contain quite a bunch of interesting high-level battle set-pieces.. of course provided one likes the IE combat, which I at least do.

As childish as they occasionally are, I actually still like the writing, gameworld, most quest concepts, aesthetics of the BG series. Looking back at the game/role-playing mechanics, I'd agree with les codexians that it's quite seriously lacking - but in the other hand this gives the game lots of potential to be fixed into a gem with mods tweaking these mechanics (there's already tons of great mods like this, like Rogue Rebalancing and SCStratagems)..if only larger part of the community would stop wanking to elf porn.

Off topic?

THE HORROR!

You're probably a fan of BG if you know that much about the mods.

So what you're saying is that you have nothing to contribute or talk about?

Oh god it's like Volly only he hates Bioware.

I already contributed and I didn't need a wall of text for it.
Better luck next time!

Maybe Bioware accidentaly killed Volourn and his spirit went into someone else. And now he wants revenge.

BG2 is pretty good fun. Nothing amazing in any category, but it does do well in many areas, and in the grand scheme of things, doesn't do completely terribly in any one area. It's solid.

Ah, but Volourn is still around!

Alternate theory: Volly has Dissociative Identity Disorder. Black is alternate identity lashing out at Bioware in rebellion.

Alternate theory: Black and Volly were twins who were seperated at birth. One of them has a goatee and is completely evil. Which one is it...?!

I played this battle often enough already, with summons and without, with 1,2,3,4,5 and 6-men parties, on insane with Tactics and/or SCS2.
So there is no immediate urge to do it again. If I'd think that playing without mods would be more fun... maybe, but I don't.

My theory is that some people can't take criticism of their belooooved "rpg" and go [insert Volly's favourite phrase here].
But then again, I'm dealing with morons who are willing to put BG on par with Arcanum, jest because of terrible combat.

BG2 is the best "HEr01k!!!" and "EP1xxxnez!!11" RPG I've played, that alone made me appreciate it. Something like a God of War RPG.

It's flaws make it difficult to play nowadays...an eh expansion...ToB was mediocrity...many fights just became mash ups...In the end, while it's certainly not the BEST GAMES EVAR, it's a good series

Clearly I have a lot of emotional attachment here.

Alternate theory: Volly was struck by lightning while typing on the computer. He died, but his spirit was absorbed by the internet, splitting him in half, forever cursed by his own obsession - be it love or hate - for Bioware.

To echo past voices, BG has been a great series. The core games (BG1 and SOA) are two of the most entertaining things I've ever indulged in. TotSC, while interesting, served as little more than an EXP grind so you can be more powerful at the start of SOA.

ToB....It certainly gave a feeling of finalization to your characters. And the end-battle with Ascension is the most epic thing since Rampage.

Yeah, you're pretty emotional.

FACT: In an argument the person throwing insults and accusing the other of being angry (or butthurt if you will) is usually the person who is actually angry and butthurt.
