My brief experience with the ghetto Souls-clones is that they did have decent level design. Hellpoint for instance was pretty good in that respect, all things considered.

Black Myth Wukong won't be on Xbox at launch
"PC and PS5 users can enjoy the full game starting August 20, 2024," reads the full statement. "We are currently optimising the Xbox Series X/S version to meet our quality standards, so it won't release simultaneously with the other platforms. We apologise for the delay and aim to minimize the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards."

It's unclear exactly why the Xbox version needs further optimising, though this isn't the first time this has happened - the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 was heavily delayed due to difficulties with split-screen co-op on the underpowered Series S.

Further, the FAQ notes that DLC and "non-pay-to-win in-game purchases" may be released in future.

Lastly, while the game is available physically, this won't actually include a disc. "It is the first time for Game Science to release a console game globally, and we are currently facing limitations in offline resources required for the import, export, transportation, distribution, and sales of physical discs," reads the statement from Game Science. "These factors have made it difficult for us to sell physical discs simultaneously with the official release of the game.

"Our publishing team is actively working on resolving these issues and exploring options to offer physical discs."
Probably Series S related

It's fine if people like this kind of thing, but I prefer rewarding and interesting exploration in my action-RPGs and attention payed to encounter design found during said exploration. Boss fights will always be secondary for me. Guess we'll see once the game is out proper. Really hope the demo isn't indicative of the entire experience, because I love Journey to the West, the overall aesthetic they've landed on with this, and Chinese games in general. I would like for it to be something I can be excited about.
I would take the "action RPG" marketing with a grain of salt. Nothing I've seen (which isn't everything, granted) makes me think Seiken Densetsu, Diablo, or Demon's Souls anymore than it makes me think Devil May Cry or any number of character action games. Having a skill tree (which is really an ability or special moves tree) just makes it an action game with a skill tree. I haven't seen any base attributes, character classes, weapon classes, armor shops, etc. And boss rush? So Contra Hard Corps with monkey with a stick. Such action, much RPG.

I think that game you describe will come. I've seen a couple good looking Chinese games on the horizon that look to have a world to explore. Going by a lot of their games and films, the Chinese just have a gift for aesthetics. Just won't be from the Black Myth developers anytime soon.

Yeah, I suppose I could try to look at this more as a character action game given all the evidence we've gotten the past few months.

I like the trailer and refreshing after all the European bullshit. I hope it is not a scam.

I like the art and the design, very FromSoft like but with a knewl Chinese theme.

Not sure i'm sold at the idea there's little level design (assuming it's true). Even Sekiro had quite a bit more than i was led to believe. We'll see i guess.

Never really kept up with this game since I initially wasn't interested in it but I got it for free when I upgraded my GPU so I might as well give it a try. Only watched the final trailer which seems to place a heavy emphasis on the environments and various locations the game (presumably) takes place in, yet I've read that it's apparently more of a boss rush game? I wonder how that's going to turn out

A demo would have been cool. It's so annoying that that isn't a thing anymore.

Tried the benchmark, much better performance than I was expecting, so unless early previews/streams show the game to be a piece of shit, I'll probably try it.

I hope it's good, I want to see more high profile games from China that are not dogshit mobile phone casinos.

tried the benchmark tool
got 57 fps avg. with everything on max, DLSS on, Frame Gen ON @1080p..... (Ryzen 5700x, 4070, 32gigs)

As a side note the benchmark doesnt have action scenes in it so no real particle effects in the sense of everything explodes around you fighting a boss etc.
There is only a torch that some npc carries in the benchmark
So I'm kinda cautious tbh. Performance might be much worse in real game scenarios

Isn't 57 fps with frame gen on horrible already for 720p?
imo it's bad and it might be even worse in real game scenarios.
No RTX, DLSS +Frame gen, everything on max @1080p gives me 81fps
No RTX, DLSS +Frame Gen, everything on High (Cinematic is the highest setting (high->very high->cinematic) i get 135 fps

Full Disclosure:
You are forced to choose a supersampling setting like DLSS/Xess/TSR/FSR.
With DLSS you ve got a slider that goes from 0 (DLSS Performance Mode) to 100(DLAA).
90-100=DLAA
62-89=DLSS Quality Mode
55-61=DLSS Balanced
33-54=Performance mode/Ultra Performance

All the benchmarks I did are at 100 DLAA.

Was gonna avoid this until Denuvo was removed but I ended up getting it for free when I upgraded my wife's GPU. I'll probably dial back the path tracing and settle in the 90FPS range at 65-70% resolution scale but it's nice to see that this is the worst case scenario on my system.

We'll see how it runs with all the particle effects going nuts during boss battles.

ADL, after you have done scamming white people and curtail free speech can you tell us how the level design is? Is it actually like Souls with exploration and level design or is it really just a sequence of bosses?

I haven't really kept up with any of the game's marketing material up since I wasn't interested in it until I got it for free while upgrading PC components, so I don't really know how much they've shown in past videos and trailers
With that being said - if (and that's a big if) the benchmark demo is to be of any indication then the levels are going to be hallways without much room for exploration. I guess we'll have to wait and see once the game actually comes out.

Review embargo lifts tomorrow, so we should have some answers to this soon enough.
