"What's the best FS ?" is the new "what's the best FF ?"

So much disrespect towards Dark Souls III here...

Dark Souls 2 is the side step

Dark Souls 2 was a glimpse at the future of ARPGs but thanks to crying fuckboys we will never get to see that future. Instead we get Dark Souls 3. Thanks fuckboys!

What future? PvP hate mails?
If the brilliance of Dark Souls 2 has to be explained to you then you are not worthy of it's brilliance. This is what I have learned from the years of arguing with people about Dark Souls 2.
I like Dark Souls 2. But what about it was a glimpse at the future of ARPGs?

Also, why are there random blobs of energy being emitted when I stand in a very particular place near the entrance to the Cathedral Ward bonfire? Is my character having a vampiric reaction to crosses, or is there some invisible mage casting spells from somewhere?
Oh, so this was because there's a giant invisible Cthulhu monster hanging out on the side of the building, waiting to transport me into the "Hunter's Nightmare" if I have someone's gouged-out eyeball in my pocket.

Obviously. Should have known.

Dark Souls 2 is a great game yes, BUT it breaks the series excellence in aesthetics and level design, and for that alone it can't best the triad of DeS, DS1 and BB.

Now DS3 is the true letdown. Albeit decent from halfway through to the end with all DLCs, it's combat system is bonkers and should've been ditched before final release. And the fact Elden Ring is built over it's combat system says to me Miyazaki san has lost the enthusiasm for the formula is better letting it die altogether.

Whew, not surprised that someone got offended that I rated the flawless perfect game a measly 8 out of 10, what a diss. I expected that of course, because a large part of the Bloodborne fanbase are cultists on every other site so I'm not sure why there wouldn't at least be a few here.
Bro, you said in your post you are finishing the game for the first time and is probably never touching it again. Do you really expect me to seriously discuss with someone who didn't even see all the levels, bosses and weapons the game offers? Come back when you formed a solid understanding of the game - which will probably happen halfway through your second playthrough inlcuding the DLC - and we can have a talk.

The number of places I can go just keeps multiplying. Some maniac hit me on the head with a bloody sack, and now I woke up in a place called Yarghoul, or whatever. This is in addition to three different nightmares, three other levels I haven't explored yet, and a "chalice ritual", whatever that is. Halp.

Enjoy the ride. Yahargul is one of the most atmospheric levels in soulsdom. Obs: the chant in the background is an actual chant by cultists performing a ritual. Spooky.

The chalice dungeon seemed like a somewhat out of place mechanic in a souls game. Is it randomly-generated? Definitely didn't feel like a real level, and didn't even get much loot out of it. Hopefully, I don't have to keep doing them, as this is the only part of the game that's kind of lame.

Don't do chalice dungeons. Iirc they're only there for farming purposes, and the game doesn't require any farming of any sort (unless you're hunting for achievements or some meta stuff like that).
They're not even related to the actual story, events or factions and can and should be avoided.

I don't think any other FS game has anything like that either. I always simply assumed that the devs lost their clarity of mind due to an unhealthy exposition to the Great Ones schemes and shat them on a whim. Shame.

For the most part they are randomly strung together and use a seed, though the "story chalices" (ones with the "Shared Fixed Dungeon" modifier enabled) are always the same for every player.

Unfortunately the Shared Fixed Dungeons are also as lazily put together as the randomly generated ones. They're full of empty dead ends, 50% of the loot is vials/ammo, 49% of the loot is materials to do more chalice dungeons and 1% of the loot is actually unique (the Beast Claw weapon for example can only be found in a story chalice dungeon as far as I know, same goes for a few Caryll Runes unobtainable in the main game). There are also some bosses that are only found in the chalices and not in the main game but they are hardly worth doing the dungeons just to see, if you do want to experience "everything" the game has to offer you're meant to do the Story Chalice dungeons as well as the main game though.

In my opinion From really heavily improved upon the chalice dungeon concept with the catacombs in Elden Ring. The catacombs are not always amazing but they waste a lot less of your time and have nowhere near as many empty dead ends, they also contain actual loot useful in the main game more often than not (Talismans, Weapons, Armors, Ashes). Even the worst Catacomb in Elden Ring is better than the best Chalice Dungeon in Bloodborne. I literally just did all the story chalice dungeons and I can't even remember a single thing that sets any of them apart aside from the slightly different biomes and the handful of unique bosses and enemies.

By the way, it's worth noting that if you want to cheat in Bloodborne the chalice dungeons (and paying for Playstation online, which is required for this) are where you go. You can input other people's seeds and the vast majority of the ones linked on Fextralife/other wikis or forums related to BB are hacked to have endgame loot (Caryll Runes, mainly) in ez mode dungeons. There's also a famous chalice where an enemy dies at the very start and gives you a shitload of blood echoes and you can just restart it over and over and eliminate farming for ammo/vials from your game entirely by just buying them from the messengers. I didn't do it because I was being rather critical of the actual game and I think cheating to remove the farming aspect that the game is intended to be played with for better or worse probably doesn't give a good representation of the flawless and perfect video game that Bloodborne is.

Hm. I finally got around the gate outside the clinic where I started the game, only to discover that the locked corridors are filled with weird mushroom alien creatures?! Has Yosefka been turning people into these things, or just feeding them to the aliens? The mystery is yet unresolved because I decided to heed her warning, and didn't fully explore the area... yet.

Oh, and there was an invitation to a spooky abandoned castle one of the NPCs had mentioned previously. Complete with a ride in a carriage with no driver and what later turned out to be long-dead and frozen horses. I should have played this on Halloween.

The Forbidden Woods boss was laughably easy, so much for there being three of them at once. I might be getting overleveled for the main game...

They're optional, but there are some unique bosses locked behind them. Apart from those, they're mostly a huge waste of time.
There's also harder versions of regular game bosses there. I remember enjoying the re-fight with rom quite a bit, as the changed arena makes it a lot more challenging.

That one actually changes in difficulty depending on how much insight you have, I think if you go in with zero it's ultra ez mode. Not sure on the specifics of it without looking at the wiki.

Edit: No wait I was thinking of the Hemwick Charnel Lane boss, I think. The shadows in The Forbidden Woods are probably just the same every time.

They're very weak to an aggressive playstyle, so it just means you're too big of a chad for them.

The giant snakes balls in the Forbidden Woods are too spooky even for Halloween.

The witch created a clone of herself when I beat the original, the clone then revived the original and I had to fight two witches at the same time... plus a bunch of summons. It was still a fairly easy boss fight. I had about 30 Insight at that time. Would there have been more clones if I had more? :prosper:

Snake balls are still not as spooky as the tall guys whose heads explode into a swarm of snakes, tbh. I was actually relieved when I realized that those were snakes, and not giant worms as I had assumed... somehow it made it less gross.
