You don't need to buy it to play it online. Creating a private game works perfectly with no additional cracking. You just create a gamespy account in-game and you are good to go.

Hmmm I'd be willing to boot the game up for and only for 4-player co-op. I guess that'd also mean everyone starting with level 1 characters.
Anyone?

Ask again in two weeks, can't really commit now with NV release imminent.

Gearbox just updated in their forums that the update is currently in certification. Guess that means it should be released shortly?

Good News! Patch is out for PS3 & Steam!!

Bad News, not for 360 yet.

Who do I have to kill at M$ to get this released?

Bad news, patch is completely mangling my install. Downloaded 40 megs of patch, launched game, crashed a few times. Did verify files on Steam, found 4 incorrect files, downloaded about 20 megs, tried again, more crashes. Verified files again, 2 incorrect files, crashed in game. Verifying AGAIN, 2 incorrect files, downloading 80 megs at the moment.

Not sure how they fucked a Steam patch up this bad. At the absolute worst on Steam if something gets hosed all I have to do is verify files once and it fixes it. This is impressive.

Someone put this on the patch thread in the gearbox forums, felt it deserved a spot here.

BROS I AM PLAYING THIS AND HAVE DECIDED IT IS A POSITIVELY LUKEWARM GAMING EXPERIENCE

IT IS DONE OKAY ENOUGH I GUESS I HAVE TWO MAIN GRIPES

I WISH THERE WAS A BIGGER PENALTY FOR DYING THAT IS MY BIGGEST ANNOYANCE WITH THE GAME

I ALSO WISH THAT LEVEL DIDNT DETERMINE DAMAGE MORE THAN GUN TYPE THIS WAS HANDLED BETTER IN DIABLO WHERE SKILLS AND STATS AND HP OR MP INCREASES MADE THE CHARACTER STRONGER BUT OH WELL I GUESS THIS WAS POPAMOLED SHIT HAPPENS

I THINK I WILL LIKE IT ENOUGH TO FINISH IT BUT I RESERVE MY FINAL OPINION FOR LATER

OH WAIT DO I HAVE TO CALL TOTALL SHIT ON THE GAME OR SLOBBER ON ITS COCK SHIT I FUCKED THIS POST ALL UP

That does get better later, especially into playthrough 2 and crap. It's only most noticeable and annoying early on. Of course, if you end up not digging the loot whoring and the feel of the gameplay then you probably won't want to stick around long enough to get to that point.

Finally got my god damn patch working. Had to keep playing and verifying the files a good 5-6 times on Steam before it finally seems to be stable. Drove out into Secret Armory and shot a few lance dudes and they were level 62 and were dropping level 60+ guns and shields so that's  I guess. Found a 2000-odd point shield that also increases HP 30% so that was cool too. My glorious havoc machine gun is kinda crappy against them though.

That is the game's biggest weakness (well, that and the FOV, but the FOV can be easily fixed on PC). The very existence of Second Wind should've made dying a more serious thing. Instead you're actually rewarded for dying - it makes some bosses hilariously easy, since you usually respawn in a place where you can hit them but they can't hit you.

I was playing co-op with my buddy on 360, and got bored within 20 minutes. Not my cup of tea.

360 level patch released!!!

After a couple hours testing, I gotta say wow. Enemies are challenging again. Even the vending machines are worth checking out again, I picked up a lvl 64 shock resist shield with a 320 recharge rate.

I can only imagine getting up to lvl 69 and getting friends together to fight a lvl 70+ crawmerax. Not to mention what kind of loot he would drop...

About shields: look at the prefixes. Only AWE and OS shields have a decent recharge rate, other shields take forever to recharge. XC shields might be good for builds that rely on going down though (Brick), since shields are full again after a second wind.

I'm not particularly against the idea, except that Knoxx is the only DLC that really seemed worth it to me thus far. And any new DLC would have to be balls-shatteringly hard given how many skillpoints you can get at now.

Still, if Borderlands 2 isn't being worked on and would be years away, I might be convinced to spend more on the original. Still haven't picked up Robot Revolution though.

Yep. Knoxx is the only one I bought (mostly b/c the other two had SecuRom) -- and I got it for $3 on sale. I'd say $5 is the max I'd have paid. Moxxie and Ned don't even look that good. I'll probably pick up Claptrap for $3 eventually but I haven't even finished Knoxx. I just can't get into the loot farming in Borderlands like I can in Torchlight.

Moxxie sucks donkey balls (shame, because her character is pretty entertaining), Knoxx and Claptrap are both good. Also, Gearbox seem to be one of a handful of companies that offers more than 1h of playing for the $10 they ask out of a DLC, so sure why not.

Well started playing this again, first time with the DLC's. When's the best time to go through them (enemies scale to your level as I understand it)? After finishing the main storyline, somewhere in between or? I'm leveling pretty fast even without completing some side quests (Siren with Intuition) so I might even skip all of them for playthrough 1 to keep things interesting.

With the latest patch you could actually skip the DLC until after you beat playthrough 2 if you're going to go that far. The game now level scales after beating the boss in playthrough 2 so you can do the DLC then for better difficulty and loot.

Anyway, the order is vaguely Zombie Island, Knoxx, then Claptrap. Moxxie whenever the hell you want, since it's just an arena mode it's not that good by yourself, and only alright if you've got a bro. Otherwise just use it for the bank space it offers if you wanna stash more shit.

Don't suppose the bank allows you to transfer stuff between your characters? It's not like there's much use for money, so selling the decent drops a siren has no use for seems like such a waste.

It doesn't, but Borderlands doesn't complain about running 2 instances of itself on one machine, so you can just fire up a LAN game and alt-tab and transfer stuff.

Wouldn't that make the game more pointless? Acquiring new shit is basically the point of the game. It kinda tells you not to get attached to anything because you'll always be finding better shit at the next corner.
