Build a home among the stars for a motley population of humans and aliens as they go about their daily lives.

Recommending your game when you are abandoning it? Nice.

WTF you can't comment on your own games.....

Really? Recommending a game that's not even complete yet and will very unlikely fullfill the promises given by recommender itself?

I backed the "Double Fine Adventure" Kickstarter as soon as I found out about it, but I didn't really have the time to play Broken Age when it finally came out.

I have been playing it with my 4 1/2 year-old daughter the past two nights before putting her to bed. I read the different conversation options to her and then let her choose. She is very excited to play it. After playing for about half an hour on Saturday night, she was bugging me ALL DAY Sunday to play again.

Because of this, Broken Age is awesome. I don't care how it compares to classic adventure games of the 90s, I don't care if it's too easy, and I don't care whether or not Double Fine mismanaged the project.

When we're done with this one, I'll introduce her to some of the classics. We're playing on my iPad, because she knows how to use it but has never used a mouse or trackpad before. I bought The Secret of Monkey Island for it this morning ($5 again), as she likes pirate stuff.

:necro:

If you want your child to play good PnC for kids, then just buy all of these: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/42723/

Yeah, that's right, Ron Gilbert succeeded in making kids PnC games...20 years ago

Try this... you go to an used car salesman that wears a lumberjack shirt and he sells a car to you, you get home and discover that the car doesn't work.

You come back to him and say: Hey guy, this car you sold me is a piece of shit.

So, he reply: "I sold this piece of shit of a car to make you spend more time with your children, you won't leave home so much and they can play with the driving wheel pretending they are doing something."

Alternative number 1:

You say: "Thanks, I didn't think on that. Thanks for making my kids happy."

Alternative number 2:

Call the cops.

What a sensible person would do?

Thanks, I'll check those out. It's probably time to start teaching her how to use a PC anyway. She's got tablets down pretty well, despite the fact that she's still learning to read. She intuitively expects that all screens on electronic devices are touch screens. :)

I recognize that Broken Age doesn't exactly stand shoulder-to-shoulder with graphic adventures circa 1990-1996. I also don't consider it to be a piece of shit. It's entertaining, even if it isn't challenging. I don't feel like I was sold one thing and given something totally different.

The context in which we first play a game is very important, and that is what my original comment was intended to convey.

Some of the Putt-putt games are out on ios too. That said, teach her some mouse incline.

New documentary episode and project update are posted in the forums.

A bunch has actually happened since this episode wrapped. Most importantly, TIM FINISHED WRITING ACT 2 AND THE FINALE! Also that pesky design issue that appears to terrify the team in this episode has been sorted. We now have a super clear and detailed picture of how the rest of the game looks. This is a huge milestone for the project and means we are able to push forward with a lot of things that were waiting on those details to be locked in place.

For instance, with the cutscenes now written, Peter was able to write a bunch of new music including a piece for the finale of the game! This was recorded just this week with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, alongside the new live versions of Grim Fandango’s score for our upcoming remaster.

It also meant we were able to get back in the studio to start recording the remainder of the voiceover work for the rest of the game. Tim actually was down in LA just this week for that very reason. There will still be another session to cover any new lines needed to address playtesting feedback, but this session covers the last major chunk of dialog. It was great to get back together with Khris Brown and all our amazing voice actor friends.

As for the rest of the team, the majority of folks are currently focused on the final sprint of taking Vella’s half of Act 2 to Alpha. After that, we’ve just got the finale left and then the entire game will be at Alpha!

Well, in actuality the game will be a bit further than that, and many parts already are! The nice thing about working with our friends at SuperGenius is that it has allowed us to parallelize a lot of Act 2 production. So while the core team at Double Fine is still working on taking things towards Alpha, Supergenius and our audio team are actually running with Beta work on much of Shay’s half of Act 2, which as you saw in the episode is playtesting reaaaallllly well.

The topic of a ship date is still one that’s ongoing at the studio, but now that we have the final writing we’re able to put together a much clearer plan for the remainder of development and are in the process of doing so. Until then, everyone is hammering away on the game and working to get it in your hands as soon as possible. Ultimately we’re going to give the game the time it needs to be something truly special, and we really appreciate your patience while we do so.

So yeah, a lot of stuff has happened since we last talked and the game is really shaping up. We’re confident we will be able to deliver something that falls in line with Tim’s original vision for the game and hopefully will be really satisfying to you the backer. It’s looking like it will be longer than Act 1, continue to build in puzzle complexity from where we left off, and most importantly will wrap up the story in a meaningful and satisfying way. Suffice to say, WE’RE REALLY EXCITED!

Double Fine seems to fuck up a lot of things nowadays, but if what they say here holds true then I can certainly say that I will enjoy all of Broken Age despite it maybe falling short of the "oldschool adventure game" thing initially promised. I find the game to be really charming and well-written, and if they can up the difficulty some in Act 2 then it'll certainly be a nice experience overall if you ask me.

It's a shame that they've screwed so many things up, it really seems like they are all over the place as a company.

Seriously, what the fuck takes so long to produce some shitty borderline iOS 'adventure' game?

Would be funny if it were in the $5 tier of a Humble Bundle before the second part got released.

They can just rename Act 1 to Complete Edition 1.0 and the game is ready. I mean steam barely mentions it is only half the product so they are good to go :troll:.

If Broken Age had been a small indie effort by an unknown studio, it would be a enjoyable-but-forgettable, kitsch adventure game.

Broken Age had a $4,000,000 budget and said they were making DOTT2.

They got more than $4 million if you throw in the the venture capital money, Humble Bundles (they sold it in one at a $25ish price tier), and the general 'donate to us via paypal' schtick.

Edit: Oh, and the actual Steam sales of Episode 1.
