Farms are a bit dissapointing in this game. They're treated like normal buildings, and look like 4x4 playpens instead of respectable farms. The first things I did whenever I wanted to make a city in SC4 was fill up all the flat land with farms, for a natural look.

That's what I noticed in the livestreams. Maybe people can mod in the traditional barn farms like the beautiful ones in SC4.

I'll be focusing on making custom buildings. :)

A tribute to Skyway, I guess.

So what do you all think? First impression stuff? I have a city almost 3000 citizens now. Money wise it's easy as hell. I don't really have to think about my economy.. at all. Need a new police station? Well, just plop it down, you will get the money back in 5 minutes. Hopefully hard-mode will be a bit more challenging. Some other annoying stuff. Ambulances and police cars, holy crap the sound the make... constantly. I will probably have nightmares about those sirens when I sleep later. Traffic jams. I almost felt like I was playing Sim City there for a moment, trying to de-clog my streets. And then I got buses, thinking finally; less cars on the road! But I'm having a bus-ception right now. 5-6 buses on the same line clogging up everything. Oh well, at least regular cars have gone down a bit, and people seems happy. One more thing I find bad before going for the good stuff. The unlock system. I don't know if this is part of some kind of tutorial, but I really don't want to unlock stuff. It makes planning the city layout difficult. I'm hoping it stays unlocked forever so when I start my next city I can do whatever I want.

Good stuff. Graphics is fantastic, and it seems to run really well. 60 fps for the most part, in some places it has dipped down into the 45-50s. I'm running everything on max except shadows, those are on high. It's a real simulation this time around. Individual people, having real jobs, going shopping and stuff. It's fun to follow them around, especially after you named them. One problem here though is that they seem to disappear if the neighborhood changes. It's a shame really, I would love to see my named guys survive from the start to finish, but oh well. Don't know what to say here really, it's all around a fun experience, watching your city grow, people walking around and stuff. It has nice details. Maybe one thing thing. The districts thing is really nice. If you want farms instead of industrial buildings you just make a district and assign "farms" to that district and they won't build any industrial buildings.

Here is a picture of my city. Looking pretty good so far. The traffic drove me nuts for a while. I have around 4000 citizens but traffic like 1 million one. That big ugly bridge fixed this issue, at least for now. I'm having nightmares already thinking about when I reach higher pop :)

Hated the defocused/blur effect. Found out how to switch it off. Haven't proceeded much further but I suspect the twitter-esque prompt is going to drive me homicidal.

Does the game have good slums? Do low wealth housing projects actually look grimy and covered in graffiti? I love making high density low wealth districts in city builders.

I have only seen trailer parks so far.

Some other updates. I have fixed the traffic issues completely. The thing is, when you open up other areas you get access to the "main highway", and that way you can make more connections. I knew about other areas, but I thought they had to be loaded in. Big nope there. You basically just expand your city area seamlessly. That is really awesome. And when you start playing with other regions you get a sense of how big the area is. I have a oilfield several kilometers from my city, and it's fun to watch my buses filled with workers drive down the dusty roads to reach this oilfield.

That sounds really neat, would've been great for those small industrial blocks I liked to place here and there in between residential areas in SC4. Would've saved a lot of bulldozing if you could've restricted dirty industry to the plots out in the forest next to your coal plant and let the manufacturing types build next to your residential areas.

This was me, waiting for Skylines to release:

Now, I'm in work... and need to wait another 8-9 hours, before I can play again. Sad lyfe.

I played all night. I only saved once very early... on Microsoft patch day... :negative:

Well, I guess this time I can try some different approaches.

my "test" version keeps freezing and then crashing very often on loading a city. until i can verify this is only related to my *cough* version i can't comment positively on this game.

anyway what i saw didn't really excite me, standard city builder stuff.
no, wait, it's worse because i need to build factories before i have access to farms, which are just different factories which still need to be enclosed in the biggest roads grids you can afford.
also the absence of the region system forces to build self-sustained cities. if shitcity has something good is its gimmick of city specialization (in theory, its application still sucks).

The sequence of things needs some overhaul, yes. Why do you get metros before trains?

On a different note: How old is this game now? There have been 522 buildings uploaded to the workshop so far. Mostly crappy lots, but still.

Can you build stadiums and other recreational stuff? I haven't found any so far, and it bugs me.

From what I saw, there's no Entertainment need, so no building theaters, cinemas and such, which is sad. You can build a stadium, but it's more of an unique building that gives some bonuses.

So, how is this better than Sim City 4?
