Yes its the same for Catholics, flip-flopper. I suppose my religious background should be explained.
I grew up as the son of a Protestant minister in the Deep South. About as deep Bible training as you can get. As it turned out, the best private school in our area was a Catholic parochial school so I received their indoctrination as well, including attending masses and so forth. I ended up starting college early through a full scholarship to a Catholic college (Cistercian school for those wondering which order) and began to convert. I was also given a scholarship to go to the University of Rome where I continuted to study Theology. Unfortunately for the Cistercians the Italian women made me realize that being a priest or a monk would never happen. Since then Ive fallen out with God and am a complete atheist.
So, while I dont know everything, I do have a unique understanding of both Martin Luther's side AND Pope Benedict's side of the altar.
I can even say the rites in Latin if you want
What's the major difference between believing in Lathander and Allah
There is a difference: Lathander exists, while Allah (or God or whatever) doesn't.
There's a huge difference. No pretend religion will ever have the draw on a person's belief system that a real, practiced religion will have. The emotions, history, politics that come from having dealt with, experienced, been exposed to a real, practiced religion. Now you might say, oh but I dont know anything about Buddism so it might as well be false. Ok. Great. But we're talking primarily about Christianity in this thread.
Even more than that, almost everyone reading this thread KNOWS what the 10 commandments are pretty much and knows what Christianity expects as a code of conduct. Unless your Lathander religion makes you read its "bible" how would a player know the ins and outs of the religion...much less have the internal emotional dialog that characterizes religion.
I get what you are meaning about the ability to kind of cartoonize religion and have it in a game...but thats not the same as having a real, working Christian experience in the game.
