I think the overall concept is idiotic. It feels like an AI trying to reproduce an era of games that didn't exist. There was never a time of highly detailed green screen. IBM green screen systems used the DE-9 (9 pin) connection. It was a serial *fucking* connection to video output! I know, that doesn't mean anything to anyone, but it's slow - trust me! For reference, watch the movie Wargames from 1983 to see how slow things write to the screen. This is garbage disguised as retro.
I recall my accounting and typing class. It was a fucking thrill in accounting to use a computer (which only happened a few times to show us, the rest was the old way of pencil and maybe an adding machine with its rolls of paper. Oh the nighmare of ledgers not balanced. FUCK!

Anyway, we had a few different monitors on them old 286s most were amber, a few that green, and a few just gray because the color was broken on the monitor. Those programs ran pretty fast considering.

I seem to recall that those early DOS applications had two different modes: text mode and a graphics mode which supported different resolutions. Thinking back to Wordperfect 5.1 with a WYSIWYG mode because you couldn't actually see bold, italic, or underline while typing. Probably had to do that because of the lack of graphics memory. That's the last... ok, I'll give it a rest as I'm thinking very deeply about something that has been dormant in my head for about 30+ years.

Zed Duke of Banville seriously, do you actually like this cat vomit? unacceptable.
You are broadcasting your tragic latent homosexuality. If you can't appreciate blobbers, what are you doing desperate for attention on RPGCodex? Is it just screaming into the void like an infant about your likes/dislikes?

NOBODY CARES

Everybody heard you the first time. At some point you neglected to respond to the feedback you were getting from the environment and failed to realize that everything you say is so boring that it can put people into a coma if they even read it aloud.

This developer is trying something clever with this game, virtually going back to monochrome terminals for the graphics. It is original and engaging. He's not a hipster. He is innovative.

You can't see it because your eyes don't line up in your face with a margin of six inches of leeway on either side. It's like both eyeballs have surrendered to the universe and given up focusing on anything.

I don't know if it is going to be like playing Fallout New Vegas but the unique format looks engaging. I can see being sucked into the game because it is an invitation to perceive things differently.

Your generation sucks and could never understand. According to clinical IQ testing you are all legal morons. You shouldn't even be allowed to look at this game - every monitor should have an emergency trigger switch that shoots twin lasers into your head if you ever attempt to view anything that requires an IQ above room temperature.

The developer has already proved with several games he is quite original and at the same time good at evoking retro.

How many games have you written? This dev apparently cranks them out nonstop. That's a million more games than you will ever write. Your chronic habitual compulsive masturbation has ruined your life and you will never be cured.

I don't think this game's visuals are intended to be strictly "retro". It's meant to be a Lovecraftian mindfuck type of thing.

Anyway, the visuals will change somewhat. The OP trailer is from the early game jam version which was made in a few days. The Steam trailer is a bit newer:

Itch.io has gamejam version 0.03a available to try for free. I'm not sure what version he's at now on Steam but I did notice different monochrome toggles via color slider. Now that really triggers my memories of those old computers which is cool. Will there be a separate OST to DL? Bancamp was memtioned for the game's ambient music: Immorpher. This reminds me a little of the Quake 1 soundtrack which, IMHO, was the best of the entire series. 8 albums for a total of .50 cents. Not bad for ambience.

There is the possibility the monochrome visuals are there at the beginning to give some mood and as the game and madness progress new colors may appear. Like, out of sky.

It has cats in it so what more could you ask for. I bet fucking rats captured them. Fucking rodents.... I swear they need to be exterminated.

But the game and murder those damn rats, Save the cats and crush that empire of skaven.

Looking at the GOG release of Resident Evil and their poster... maybe the game will color pallet change in real creepy areas. Again, the sound artist he got isn't too bad. I like a few of his tracks. (i haven't listened to them all and apparently I have to be on my laptop to DL them).

Take your meds schizophrenic coprophile
You're so autistic you could not even frame a sane reply. You just took another puff on your asthma inhaler and had little tears running from your rheumy eyes as you sought comfort in ASMR of people unpacking Funko figurines on Youtube.

Nobody will show at your funeral except your Mom and that's only because the cemetery is right across the street from Domino's Pizza. By the time she is trying to decide what toppings she wants she will have forgotten why she even bothered to drive her mobility scooter this far into the city today. She'll just be thinking about that tasty thick crust.

Later that day, she'll be back inside the trailer using a two-by-four to wedge her own ass onto the foldout bed so she can generate some more content for her Onlyfans site. She is proud to be a plus-size and show her body off to men who can appreciate her. She announces the next hour of streaming self-pleasuring will be devoted to her son, who managed to kill himself with a stroke after masturbating for 24 hours to Hentai porn in the front seat of his car outside a childrens daycare center before succumbing. She was stunned that your gender modification surgery had still left you so depressed but you were found buckled in with otherwise no clothing on except a pair of stilletto heels.

This story is about American winners.

Trapped in the Vaults of Zinn!
You are Randolph Carter, old dreamer and friend of cats. The spiteful and mischievous zoogs, after making an unholy alliance with the ghasts, have imprisoned you and several cats in the haunted, cyclopean Vaults of Zinn. You must find the exit of the vaults and rescue as many cats as you can, or die trying.
Rogue-Like Dungeon Crawler
The game is a grid based dungeon crawler, with a procedurally generated dungeon and rogue-like gameplay. Each play-through is unique, with perma-death, and a summary of your play-through will be presented at the end. The game currently stores your top 10 play-throughs for review.
Turn Based Combat
The gameplay and combat is all turn based, allowing you to make strategic decisions.
Upgrades
The current build of the game has a simple upgrade system. You can gain levels by fighting monsters and thereby gain "life" and "skill". Life is just health (but it fits into the UI better) and skill effects your ability to hit enemies.
You can also find swords which increase your damage and shields which increase your defense. This feature was very much a product of the limited time of the game jam, and I will be thinking about ways to enhance it.
New Features
I am considering some new features to add to the full release. Among them are a larger dungeon, more monsters, better upgrading system and having the cats join your party in some way. I do hope to do this without diminishing the simplicity and ease of access that the current version has.

This title looks like absolute shite. (and I played RPGs on mainframes in the 1970s and 1980s)
