I would like to point out that this guy hasn't responded with a single line to my reasonable defense of DS1 and soulslikes in general, which had no fanboyism in it at all, but simply talked about the gameplay elements I think they do right.

Completely clear and obvious. Even the title says so unambiguously! Shitposters should stop ankle biting and pretending that Dorkatha isn't a man of singular taste and vision.

DS has good combat, interesting builds, great exploration and atmosphere (at least the first one).

To be fair, this thread isn't really about the first DS.

Recently I've been searching for new games to play and trying to rekindle some enjoyment out of gaming again. For the most part I've been scouring RPG Codex threads, Gamefags, etc for new games to try. And I'm willing to try pretty much anything, from 2d scrollers to low-budget, obscure indie games.

But time and time again I kept running into this 'soulslike' shit. It's everywhere. The best way I can describe it is like sliding down a mountain into a valley of shit.

"Soulslike this, Soulslike that, This is Soulslike, That is Soulslike!"

And then I kept coming across entire threads of people arguing about what makes something truly a Soulslike. And then I start seeing 1:1 copied shit like this;

It went too far.

So I started to form an opinion.

Now you know why I made this thread and others like it. I got, like, opinions, man.

You basically just said that at least some Soulslikes like Salt and Sanctuary suck, while also saying that Dark Souls does not, in fact, suck. So... congrats, I guess.
