With more lulz

Buchta: At some point I got really pissed off with the level designers’ work on the open terrain… They simply needed to understand stuff that we’re trying to do, trying to do some compositions of stuff. Then I simply placed myself with a machine gun, removed their weapons, and said, “Okay, move from this place to here.” And I just started hosing them down.

Finally giving this a go
Dayz is like an online Roguelike where you run around getting food and gear only to die with all that stuff on you, you can still run back to your body and gear though.
The current status of the mod is brutal to newbies.
When I first started around 1.5+ we had very little zombies, the zombies are also blind and deaf, we have global chat (a newbie helpline and friendly IFF), we can tell bandits(PKers) from their skin and a starting gun.
Now zombies are numerous, can see you pretty well, only direct chat which works when you are less than 100 meters which leaves newbies clueless and alone (some servers still have global chat, esp those running 1.6), no more bandit skins so people usually shoot on sight and you start with no weapons and almost no equipment.
You can look to us for help, not that you need to since Codexers are hard-core gamers. ;)

...Not sure what I'm doing. Went in to a daylight server with an empty makarov, a can of beans and a pack of bandage plus ten flares...OK. Let's stay out of sight...for 3 minutes, then this zombie chased me for 5 minutes across hills and plains. How the fuck does anyone lose a zombie chase? I saw a huge power plant with the name TEC outside it...took my chance dashed in...there's a three door huge 'warehouse' of some sort with two doors blocked by barbed wire...somehow the zombie lost me on the chase..he's still outside and I'm inside. Decided to explore the 'warehouse' and climbed three stairs up. Found a remington with flash light. and 8 shells. This is good. Except when I look out of the window there's more than 10 zombies about...

This game really does a good job to remind you that your achievements are nearly meaningless - a slight elation when the shotgun is found...and the drop back down to earth when I look at the window. No other game does it for me.

Ha ha! Good stuff. Just go with it, there's a new story everytime you login. My favourite motto is: "When in doubt, crawl". Good luck.

Oh lol you're in cherno. That building you're in is the fire house. It can have some decent weapon spawns.

You can lose zombies by getting out of their line of sight.

Also, avoid cherno like the plague if the server is populated.

Stumbled upon a vehicle camp. Two ATV's, one motorbike and one truck. Got the rarest gun in the game - FN FAL with night vision - along with ten mags for it. One guy came towards me and started looting the truck too. He was probably a fresh spawn and wanted to resupply. He also probably thought I'm his buddy because why would anyone be able to find this camp, amirite? Wrong. I killed him on the spot without second thought. I thought he might have company so I quickly took an ATV and got away. Came back 20 minutes later in a group of 5 to get all the sweet lewt, but the truck, i.e. the vehicle with the far most valuable loot, was gone.

Too bad, but still, I have the rarest gun in the game and a tent. Now I just gotta find a good spot to set the tent.

They found my ATV, moved their camp above it, then drove out to the hatchback, looted it and drove another kilometer and stole the land rover back. Bastards I tell ya.

RK-chan, I noticed on that despicable other forum that fucks over our princess-voting that they play this thing too. Since our KKKodex ventrilo server isn't terribly overpopulated, you're welcome to invite them in. No sense in letting all those server slots sit idle. Heck, lemme know if you want me to set up a seperate password/ITZ Coming! channel. I think ventrilo lets me make an account that can't see our colourful channel names like "Machete Rape gang" and confines everyone to a safe little subchannel.

...your good intent touches me deeply in the bottom of my hearts. But you may extend that offer yourself. I hardly play with them at all being GMT+8 myself.

After trial and error, I finally ended up with an AK. Best gaming Ive had in years. It won me over already. Now i need a damn headset

Was considering renting/hosting a server but the mod makers have way too much control at this point. Would love to have a server independent of their system with characters bound just to that server to avoid any cheating issues.

There is actually at least one independent hive network that I've run into. If characters were to be bound to a server it would destroy the entire multiplayer aspect, you'd have to keep spamming the join button to get into a full server.

I mean an extra. You've got your universal anyserver character and then on a locked/pw'd/private Codexspeshulservor you've got Billy01 bound there.

Why not wait until he gets the mod working the way he see's fit? We're lucky we get to play it.

It does indeed look like :incline: of first-person shootan even in this early stage. Maybe I'll have to pick up ARMA after all when it goes on steam sale. Also, someone should totally post DayZ AARs on the playground. *hint* *hint*;)

Nobody wants to read "Got PKd looking for food, respawned." Repeat x 10 (excerpt from little baby menckenstein's first dayZ experience)

 Just like how players are so lucky BioWare crafts the romances they want, I'D GLADLY PAY $500 FOR DAYZ.

It's very fun, in a "what the fuck am I doing uuuugh" way. It's a solid challenge, fairly steep learning curve, I like it. Anus and I were wandering around trying to find bros but unless you have a map and a GPS on :obviously: setting servers you're flying blind for the most part.

When we spawned in sort of the same area we used the coast for navigation until we met up, got chased by zombies (you spawn unarmed) until we found some HACHETZ then we scavenged some base items until I got my legs broken and had to commit suicide to avoid slowing anus down. Then we switched to pro-skillz server XL and couldn't find each other and I wept, even though spacepoopz and babitz helped me find their locations.

10/10 will play again.
