A couple of things strike at this moment though: if on the map there are 40-50 zombies, and the game is turn based, won't it take too long for the enemy turn to pass, with each zombie moving his zombie legs one at the time, thinking with their zombie brains one at the time also?(thinking about JA2 here).
Zombies will move all together simultaneously, humans in the usual turn based mode.

Also, the morale system.
Morale tracks the overall mood of the Shelter – if it’s positive, mostly people are happy, if not, you need to start raising mood and accomplishing goals that will make people forget about the horror outside.
Doesn't it sound a bit like Sims 3? How much of a tedious job will be after a while to try and make every team member happy and in the mood to get fucked up by the zombies for the greater good of the Vau...Shelter?
Didnt you play Sims 1 and 2? Why 3?

Imagine how tedious playing a game is. All those clicks all the time...click this, click that..
Click clickety motherfucking click.

Does 'Dead State' originally have the double sense it has when I translated it into spanish, bros?

Yep, it somewhat keeps it. It doesn't sound really cool, though. It would be something like "Estado de Muerte".

Some of the comments are, of course, priceless.

In terms of overall concept, this sounds really amazing. However, the turn-based combat is a real turn-off. I have yet to find a genre that actually benefits from turn-based combat. I always thought it had the opposite effect of what they’re intending–it kills the tension and sense of dread, because you know you have as much time as you want to plan.

Still, it should be worth checking out.

Basically, I don’t just want to end up dying because I moved forward, and then a zombie came around a corner and bit my head off while I stood there twiddling my thumbs. That sort of situation is what makes turn-based combat so annoyingly unrealistic.

Turn-based Sims with zombies?

Doesn’t sound very appealing.

Why must it be turn-based? WHYYYYY?!

Turn-based is ALWAYS terrible in video games. ALWAYS.

Was getting really hyped …until I read that it’s turn-based.

Damn.

etc

I think turn based strategy games benefit from turn base.. after all, it would even exist without it! L0LZ! :M

There are bad turn based games and good turn based games just like any other method for combat. *shrug* That said, it does lower the 'scare' factor a bit. Zombies coming around the corner to bite your head off just aren't as scary if the game pauses before they get the chance. Can you imagine RE series with turn based combat? It defeat the purpose. That said, ZRPG is NOT RE, and that's a good thing.

Ever played X-Com? Pushing the "Turn" button in that game can be far more terrifying than anything the Resident Evil series could hope to muster.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
The comments are somewhat understandable. I generally only want TBS if there's gonna be a deep strategic element to the combat. Since virtually every RPG developer insists on watering down the gameplay elements it borrows from other genres "because it's a rpg" the combat inevitably ends up being tedious and boring. Though I can think of exceptions like Fallout. Fallout's combat was childishly simplistic but I found it entertaining anyway because the brutal death animations turned it into turn based popamole. :smug:

First post, don`t hate me.

Looks interesting!

Different types of scary. In most games(and movies) scary means that some stupid shit jumps out of the closet and attempts to rape you. Such type of scare obviously won`t work with turn based system.
