Only played the first mission so far (on legendary difficulty of course) but I'm a big fan of the art direction and tone they're going for. Reminds me of D1. How the fuck is this the same game as Lightfall tonally? Imagine someone going straight from the lame Nimbus storyline into TFS' campaign. So weird.

Big fan of whatever they did to the audio too. The mix is incredible compared to what it was ~30 hours ago and all the guns sound so much better.

I've some comments of the cutscenes and general thoughts on The Final Shape since launch (as a non-player, didn't feel like re-installing) but I'll have to suspend them in light of this amazing World's First Raid Race.

It's been 5 hours and only a handful of teams have made it past the first encounter! Remember, last year's raid (all encounters) were done and dusted in about 3 hours total.

I'm watching Aztecross even though I hope some literally whos win it again, it's funnier that way. Elysium might have a better chance though.

I forgot if Bungie ever admitted it but Root of Nightmares was intentionally easier as it was meant to be launched together with the in-game LFG tool (didn't happen). "The community" wanted a harder one so here it is. Will be interesting to see Salvation's Edge's day 1 completion rate compared to RoN. Aztecross already looks tired and he's still in the first encounter with Mr. Hands.

edit: Lol Saltagreppo's team is way ahead and there are accusations them "randomly knowing things" because of datamining, with defenders saying he was a favorite to begin with and is just very good.

edit: 9 hours later, still nowhere close to the end, except some chinese hackers. Datto's team seems to have figured out the mechanic of the "Plato's cave" encounter but can't execute it.

edit 2: Went to sleep, woke up and Cross just got to what looks like the boss. Stream has been going for 21h48m now. Don't know how many encounters they got past. Frostbolt in his team is saying someone got world's first but not verified by Bungie yet. Apparently it was a clan of nobodies who weren't even streaming lul were streaming to a small audience it seems.

edit3: it's over. People are getting notifications of quest advancement ingame too.

Saltagreppo and his team are known for doing whatever the hell it takes to win, so I wouldn't put it past him or his friends. He's won multiple past World's Firsts for at least the last 3 or 4 years, if I remember correctly.

At the risk of sounding like a hater, I'm really, really glad it wasn't Salt's team yet again, lol.

And not only that, but a relatively unknown team as well, a pro group that didn't even deign to stream their victory.

Cross' stream has been going for 37 hours now, and he was online for roughly 2 before starting the raid. He turned off his camera at some point near the end, probably to avoid being reported for endangering his health since he was dozing off. He completed it an hour or so ago and has been playing the other stuff that unlocked after the first team's completion. Other team members logging off because they're about to pass out.

He's also the second titan player to complete it...worldwide. Shieeet.

Datto's team went for a 8h nap, they'll come back with 12h left for contest mode completion.

edit: yeah, all it took was some sleep. Those are old men, the redbull only helps so much.

Bungie just published an article about Weightgate, a dire RNG bug that has been in the game since at least Forsaken (with the reintroduction of random perks, that were in Destiny 1 but removed after requests from the Reddit community, though Reddit likes to pretend it wasn't them) or maybe even from day 1, but went unnoticed for years until the release of the new dungeon Vesper's Host, because a desired roll on a particularly sought after gun happened to be very hard to drop to the point it didn't look like coincidence, and made people start researching.

It's an interesting read even if only for the game development angle.

wild rng on drops is retarded. either you go the diablo 2 1.0 way, with rare items with so many modifiers they were always useful one way or another, or (and since this is a "service" game you're supposed to keep working on it, it's your fucking job) balance modifiers and let me buy those i like the most.

The "craftable" guns let you do that (once you get 5 marked randomly dropped copies of a gun, you can pay resources to fully customize a new copy from scratch) but it's a contentious topic since the haters think it's a handout and everyone will use the same best rolls, leading to boredom. Defenders say that if everyone is using the same rolls, then that's what they want and find the most fun to use.

For the current episode (replacement for seasons until they change the release model in the "Frontiers" update), Bungie is experimenting by making the seasonal guns not craftable but letting you make consumables that make them drop more often, so it's RNG based but you can nudge it.

Either way items in Destiny have fixed modifiers and only their allocation is random (If a shotgun can roll Grave Robber, you either get it to drop with GR or not, you can't find a 120% GR to replace your 114% one), the problem is that the bug was unintentionally weighting the perks based on how close they are in the API (so if you wanted One-Two Punch to pair with Grave Robber and this particular shotgun had those perks placed in a certain way in the API, this combo could be very easy or very hard to come by)



Our team has been working through community-sourced data and internal simulations to reproduce reported issues regarding legendary weapon perk RNG.After investigation, we can confirm an issue has been found in our code where some random perk combinations are harder to earn per legendary weapon perk set. In some cases, desirable perk combinations are a bit easier to earn as well. While we inspected our content and confirmed each perk is weighted equally, an issue in perk pool RNG is the culprit here.Our team has quickly identified a potential solution to the issue, and we are rapidly working to validate the fix.We are aiming to address this as soon as possible and will share a planned hotfix date when available.
