GEP Gun, vent crawling, stealth

Tranquilizor darts, pepper spray, and police baton hits to the back of the head.

Hack the security systems and watch the carnage unleashed by the bots and turret guns over the monitor screens.

No thanks, I'm a humanitarian. I try to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.

This thread is beginning to sound like some people did not do a never-kill anyone (except the two password-activated augs) pure stealth run, and I find this offensive.

True no-kill heroes beat the shit out of Anna until she starts fleeing, then use sofas to fence her into the exit door so she runs into it and glitches it open so they can run past, leaving her alive. ZERO kills.

Arthandas, is Modern Upscales your mod? You plan on doing environments too? New Vision's "distinct grungy look" has that typical problem with too much noise detail clashing with the old geometry, would much rather have a straight upscale like you did with the objects.

P.S. Scratch that, I should've paid more attention to the ModDB page - there's a separate 2.0a release of New Vision that's a pure AI upscale. Just had a quick go and noticed the occasional framerate hitch (which the author warned about on account of it being a Beta release with loose .dds files instead of .utx packs) and sometimes garbled text on environmental posters and such, but it looks absolutely on point.

Planning a replay for Christmas and I think NV 2.0 with Modern Upscales have me covered for textures.

Yes, I didn't touch environments because that's covered by the NV.

Holy fuck, it looks so bad. I'd rather play vanilla.
There is a beautiful simplicity present in the first Unreal Engine (though the Unreal game still looks better than Deus Ex).
The textures and the character models could've used maybe a bit more polish.

People always praise this game but I never hear about the first one. Is Unos Ex worth playing, or should I skip it and start with Deus Ex? Are the stories of the two games linked?

Arthandas, I spotted some nasty artifacting on the Businessman3 texture around the tie and lapels on one of my test saves so I fixed it manually and then did the same for Businessman1, MIB and SecretService. Since I got started, I also polished up Male1 which wasn't as gnarly but could do with a cleanup. You can grab them here if you want to include them in your pack.

One other thing - the corona effects have always looked dogshit in Deus Ex and the ones in New Vision look even worse because they're saved with BC3 Linear which artifacts at high transparency in-game. So I saved them with BC3 sRGB (DX10) which fixed the problem but I also figured I'd make them a little more subdued, I'm tinkering with 'em:

Thing is I'm working sigh-unseen as I only have the one type of corona around Hell's Kitchen, and I don't know the UE1 tools anymore. Could you zip up the original Deus Ex contents of /Textures/Effects/Coronas/ and share them so I've got a reference to work to? I can hand them over after I'm done and you can add them to your mod if you like (assuming the NV guys wouldn't mind). The only catch is they'll need a DX10 or newer renderer, I imagine they'll spazz out on DX9.

Since I had already finished the vanilla games a few times, I gave Revision a try. I noticed that there were settings/achievements for completing the game with various restrictions, like not using any upgrades, having a reduced inventory, dropping everything in your inventory before each chapter ends, and so on. So I decided to do a run with every restriction on the highest difficulty, and it turned out to be really fun. Makes you approach the obstacles in an entirely new way, and even turns some previously very easy things into actual challenges. The only problem is that I think that it will feel too easy when you go back to the regular gameplay, without the restrictions.

Did you successfully rescue the hostages in the Battery Park subway station?
Even in the original that part can be rather difficult without using gas grenades.
One stray bullet fired at one of the tnt crates and the entire subway goes BOOM along with the hostages.

I did, though I can't remember with certainty how I did it. It's actually been a while since I did the run. I have some memory of sneaking around in the vents and hitting them in the back with the baton (the restrictions included nonlethal) while throwing the garbage bags and bottles around to get them to move out of each other's view. Took a number of attempts, if memory serves.

Never bothered going nonlethal in the Battery Park hostage situation.
I usually play in a hybrid nonlethal/lethal style, though I focus on stealth and not eliminating anyone unless they are a serious impediment to the completion of the mission objectives.

Weird, this should not happen, the original texture must have been really low res... I no longer maintain this pack since I'm done with Deus Ex, if you want I can add your fixes as a separate optional download.

Sure, it's up to you. Don't want credit, just fixed those for my upcoming replay and thought others might like it too.

It's nothing you did, by the way, NV 2.0 has the same problem on those textures, must be something about those ties that trips up the AI upscaler.

If you pick up a crate and strafe so you are facing toward enemy with said crate makes you sorota invisible. Or was. It other game..?

Yeah, that's how it works.
In Invisible War you have to account sound. As much as people tend to overlook Invisible War, the AI is vastly improved from the first Deus Ex.
Enemies are more alert and vigilant.
